I remember that, and it's also been discussed here and there in this thread. It’s coming. ______________________________________________ “There are plenty of good reasons for fighting, but no good reason ever to hate without reservation, to imagine that God Almighty Himself hates with you, too.”

https://hotair.com/john-s-2/20...ant-the-jobs-n406107 Last June Portland’s Mayor Ted Wheeler, who is also the police commissioner, decided to put an end to the Gun Violence Reduction Team (GVRT) as part of an effort to reimagine policing. The $6 million that would have gone to the team was redirected ” toward communities of color.” After the GVRT was cut, the number of shootings and murders in Portland skyrocketed. Last September there were 110 shootings in Portland, a 243% jump compared to a year earlier. At the end of the year, Portland had more than 900 shootings, double the previous year. The spike in violence continued into 2021 In early March, Mayor Wheeler announced he was seeking funding for a new GVRT albeit with a different name and some new oversight. If approved, the city would restore nearly all of the functions – though not the name – of the city’s Gun Violence Reduction Team, a program that was disbanded in 2020 in response to longtime community demands. “We are not bringing it back,” Wheeler said. “To be clear, the part about GVRT that was objected to by many members of the community was that there wasn’t community oversight. There wasn’t clarity in terms of what the engagement was. There wasn’t the collection and the transparent dissemination of data.” The new plan would create an independent watchdog to oversee the new program that will bring back many of GVRT’s functions. One of the qualifications for the new team is that applicants show the, “ability to identify and dismantle institutional and systemic racism in the bureau’s responses to gun violence.” Portland can’t find officers willing to take positions on the new Focused Initiative Team. A total of 14 opening were announced in May. More than two months later, there have been only four applicants

I read this AM (On another board) that the Portland PD can't find enough officers who want to be on the GVRT or whatever "woke" title its called, to field it. Not surprised. Who would want to stick their neck out in that socialist paradise. For what? Regards 18DAI 7+1 Rounds of hope and change

They will find some of the new guys to staff it. They always do. Something about the ability to wear your bb hat backwards and a pair of jeans.

Exactly! There's ALWAYS some young, dumb fool that thinks he knows more than the old-timer. Here's the other way they get to staff the unit: Reverse seniority Units like GVRT need experienced officers that know what they're doing. Cops that aren't afraid of chasing bad guys down a dark alley in a bad neighborhood, also smart enough to know how to do it right. The right supervision and the right boss that will put his people above any political bullshit. This "new and improved" unit, especially with any sort of "community oversight" won't attract any veterans that know how to do the job. But "The Brass" still wants that Unit running. So they put a bunch of new cops just off of probation, or "misfits" that don't fit in where they're at. The supervision ain't going to be much better. Now it's the blind leading the blind... No one teaching anyone how to do stuff right. Whatever "productivity" they bring in will be "quantity" instead of any real "quality", nothing but smoke and mirrors. But as Bulldog said, they sure the hell will look cool with a backwards baseball cap and jeans / 5-11 tacti-cool pants on, beard, "Grunt Style" t-shirts and a wad of dip in their mouth. As Bulldog, Klusk or I how we know... ______________________________________________________________________ "When its time to shoot, shoot. Instead of Focused Initiative Team maybe they should more appropriately call it "Failures Intercoursing Ted" (Wheeler) or "Snowflake Hyperpartisan Initiative Team" --------------------------------------- It's like my brain's a tree and you're those little cookie elves.

From what I saw, specialized units or assignments and task forces within police agencies were often staffed with ticket punchers and ass kissers who wanted their participation in these units to make them look good for promotion and internal politics. Chiefs and Mayors would often loudly announce the establishment of all these units, let them run a short time and then disband them, citing some pressing need elsewhere. I think this may be the case in Portland, since I think no cop in his right mind would want to join the "reimagined" GVRT. End of Earth: 2 Miles Upper Peninsula: 4 Miles

I have had the same experience as Yooper. We had a female added to the SWAT unit so they could be “diverse” even though the female wasn’t even out of Field Training and was required by policy to have two years experience in patrol before being allowed to try out for any specialized units. We had people who were not qualified,(not enough time in grade) thrown into a sergeants process in efforts to make it appear legit. The evaluators were from other departments and didn’t know that all the participants except one had the required time. And I worked for a nationally accredited department. Some time ago in this thread we talked about Rayshard Brooks who was shot by police in Atlanta. After some grandstanding by the prosecutor, the officer who shot Brooks was eventually reinstated. Roadblocks were set up near the Wendy's where Brooks was shot. A woman drove thru and people "guarding" the roadblocks shot into the car and killed an 8 year old girl. Now we know who the "guards" were. https://hotair.com/john-s-2/20...-bloods-gang-n408774 Indictments in Secoriea Turner case reveal Rayshard Brooks was a member of the Bloods gang Last year an 8-year-old girl named Secoriea Turner was shot and killed by men who had set up roadblocks in the street near the Wendy’s restaurant where Rayshard Brooks was killed. The protesters who had taken over the site claimed the people with guns (the ones who shot Secoriea Turner) were not part of their group Today a Fulton County grand jury indicted two men involved in the shooting. According to prosecutors, both men were members of the Bloods gang and were manning the roadblock where Turner was shot because Rayshard Brooks was also a member of the Bloods gang. an attorney for Turner’s family: “We’re clearer now than we’ve ever been that this was absolutely preventable and did not have to happen but for the city surrendering a block, a neighborhood, to what has now been described as a gang.” “Her death would not have occurred but for the city’s surrender…of a certain part of the city to these armed, lawless elements.” Two people had been shot in the area before Secoriea Turner was killed. Police and the City Council knew about the roadblocks and it was widely reported that police weren’t doing anything about it. It wasn’t until 8-year-old Turner was killed that the Mayor finally said enough was enough. Why did it take so long and why isn’t anyone being held responsible? everyone was so afraid of offending BLM protesters that the police sat back and let gang members control the streets with rifles

Portland had another riot yesterday. Proud Boys were in NE Portland; Antifa were by the waterfront, but then went to confront the Proud Boys ...... And Antifa removed evidence (spent casings) from a shooting... __________________________ More blessed than I deserve. http://davesphotography7055.zenfolio.com/f238091154
