Attorney: Handcuffs removed from Jacob Blake at Froedtert Hospital

Jacob Blake's attorney just told WISN-12 News reporter Terry Sater that the felony warrant against Blake has just been vacated, handcuffs removed in his hospital bed, and the deputies have left his room at Froedtert Hospital.

"Earlier today, Mr. Blake posted the bond underlying the arrest warrant, enabling his release from custody. The hospital watch was discontinued immediately after receiving this information from Kenosha authorities," Milwaukee County Sheriff's investigator Scott Still said in a statement.

On Thursday, Blake's father told the Chicago Sun-Times, "He can't go anywhere. Why do you have him cuffed to the bed."

Blake's family said he's paralyzed after a police officer shot him in the back Sunday.

The Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office told The Associated Press that all hospitalized patients in police custody are restrained unless undergoing medical procedures and that it's working to "ensure a safe and humane environment for Mr. Blake.''

"During the past 24 hours, there has been increased discussion about patient restraints. The decision to restrain patients who are under arrest lies with law enforcement. Privacy laws prevent Froedtert Health from commenting on the status of patients," Froedtert Hospital tweeted Friday.

A reporter asked Gov. Tony Evers about the handcuffs Thursday during a news conference.

"The Sun-Times is reporting that Jacob Blake is handcuffed to his hospital bed. Does that concern you?" the reporter asked.

"Hell, yes. I would have no personal understanding why that would be necessary. Certainly, he's paid a horrific price already being shot seven or eight times in the back. I can't imagine why that's happening," Evers said.

Even Vernon Jones, a black former Democrat and supporter of President Trump, wasn’t safe from the mob outside the Republican National Convention (RNC) Thursday night.

Jones, who was accompanied by a woman as he tried to navigate his way to his hotel, was accosted by Black Lives Matter activists and hit with insults and racist slurs.

At first, the pair seem rather collected, with the woman even smiling as she corrects one of the ignorant protesters who tells his little friends that Jones is in Congress.

Things get a little tense, however, as the mob closes around them and begins to shout expletives.

The insults from the Black Lives Matter protesters didn’t stop there.

“Are you a black Trump supporter?” one man asks Jones, confused to know that they do exist.

“You’re a fucking disgrace! Shame!” somebody yells.

Another shouted, “You house [n-word]!”

Jones and his guests had to be surrounded by police using their bicycles as a wall of protection in order to eventually make their way back to the hotel.

The restraints were removed, and the officers witdrawn because Blake made bail on the warrant, and thus is no longer under arrest. He is out on bail.
