If the form 4 says 8", you can't go shorter only longer.

So where are these version 1 MPX's? Said shipping a week ago and haven't seen one anywhere. When they said the MCX was shipping, they were seen almost immediately. I don't get it.

You sure about that? | |||

The ATF really doesn't care about specific barrel lengths. If it's an SBR, it's an SBR.

I'm not sure that's true anymore. I think you can switch out different uppers and go shorter as long as it's not a permanent change. If it is all you have to do write a letter telling ATF What you changed it to.

It always been my understanding and I've done a few SBR's in my time, is that you mark every barrel length that you might be using on your weapon. If you list the shortest on your form, you can always go up but not down. That's how I remember it, might have changed though.

You can use any bbl length you want as long as the gun can readily be restored to the condition it was registered in. For example, on an AR, if you registered the AR lower as an SBR with an 8" 9mm barrel, but later, you add an 11.5" 5.56 upper and an 8" .300 BLK upper, it's ok to have all three uppers on hand. But even if you do not shoot the 9mm upper anymore, I would keep it around since that is the way the gun was registered. If you do not want the 9mm upper anymore, you can send a letter to BATFE NFA notifying them of a permanent change in the registry. Today's modern modular weapons really screw with the way NFA was written and the interpretation thereof. Back in 1934, if you bought a Thompson, that meant a .45 ACP with a certain OAL and bbl length. There was no changing calibers, barrels, and not much in the way of folding stocks even. The law hasn't kept up with the chameleon-like modularity of modern weapons systems.

When I submitted all the Form 1's for my AR SBR's, I attached a letter stating something like... "May also be used with 7.5", 10.5", 11.5", 12.5", 14.5" barrels, and 9mm and 300BLK calibers." That's what ATF told me to do, and it's worked every time. It's probably not necessary, but it doesn't hurt.

On a related topic, are there any updates on when the MCX's will be shipping? I'd love to pick up an MCX SBR.

They already have and have been for sale at Cabela's. They are also on Gunbroker if you don't mind spending more than MSRP.

I can confirm that the first 500 units of MPXs began shipping today. I do now know what percentage of them are what configuration. My guess would be most if not all are MPX w/ SBX.

Any idea where they are going? Are any going to the pro shop? Did Cabelas get them all? Etc...

I've been checking gunbroker several times a day since I saw the thread about them shipping and have not seen a single one anywhere. I'm losing hope really fast...vaporware.

tpd312 was referring to jimmer_5's question regarding the MCX. These have been on gunbroker in both 5.56/300blk pistol and rifle combos for 2k-3k.

Ok, I thought maybe I was blind. I just did a search again and every place says pre order, or not available.

LDD, Have an ammo question regarding shooting +P+ in the MPX. I am assuming a steady diet of this will not hurt the MPX? I shoot +P+ in my duty issued Glock 17 and no issues and I would think the chamber area in the MPX would be a little stronger than a Glock.

Do not know where they are going. SIG does not have an exclusive deal on the MPX as they did with the MCX & Cabelas.

+P+ Should be fine in the MPX.
