Sent ya an email, my brother lives fairly close to you and I'm going to try to make a run over there tomorrow.

I know you said you're good on everything but let me know if you're going to be running low on something.

I think you quoted me by accident? I'm more than 1,000 miles away from there. But you are welcome to come by. Smile

I did, and apologies. Big Grin

Email went to mrvmax who does in fact live close to my brother.

Yep, another reason why this is a unique forum. Twist doesn't know me from Adam yet offered assistance to me after reading my posts.

Not raining here right now. That will surely change once the sun comes up and starts adding energy to the atmosphere. Street out front looks to be clear. The storm is moving S-L-O-W-L-Y to the east. Once it moves inland east of here the rains should slack off quite a bit. We'll probably have rain in spots for quite a while as Harvey has pumped a lot of moisture into the atmosphere. But maybe now the drainage can have a chance to catch up.

I'm still not flooded but at 42" of rain since Saturday night at my house. I really do not understand how I have not flooded but the drainage in my area is keeping me out of trouble. The city stated this morning that there are about 3000 homes in Friendswood with water in them.

If I were you, allowed by your employer or not, I'd take a defensive firearm and extra magazines. Looting is ongoing and armed robbery and piracy are on the upswing.

NOW, MY BIG QUESTION FOR THE HIVE

Looking at the images online, and comparing the known locations to the Houston area as viewed via Google Earth, I've drawn polygons using those known locations that encompass >150 square miles.

Are we looking at writing off a huge part (> 150 square miles) of the greater Houston metro area?

By that I mean having to do post-Katrina-scale demolition and rebuilding?

Holy cow. That just made the flood worse.

This is starting to get biblical in scale.

Would you please explain to those not familiar to the area what that means? Is that downtown? How large of an area is that? Is the levee in danger of giving out?

I was watching Fox Business just now (I turned off fox news as soon as Shep came on), and they just took a walk through a house with the owner. It had over four feet of water in it. I couldn't imagine that. Total devastation on a very personal level. And it could be months before the water is all out. Man...

The visuals from the area are heart wrenching and to think looters and thieves are taking advantage of the human tragedy really pisses me off. I wish a shoot on sight order could be issued for LEOs. F***ing scum deserve no less.

On Ch 13 (ABC) coverage I saw some more guys from Austin helping out. They have been riding on all these guys boats interviewing folks. He said loosely "wasn't much to do in Austin..." so he came over with his boat. I really appreciate the "Texans Helping Texans" mindset that prevails. Taking nothing away from the "Cajuns helping Texans" mindset let me be clear.

So far I have seen the LA Lafayette guys helping, and others from Palestine TX, Austin, Lufkin and many more that I cant remember. Thanks to all these boat owners!!

Was reading that there are going to be tens of thousands of people bankrupted or in the very least put in a tough economic situation as they did not have flood insurance and homeowners insurance isn't going to cover most of what's happening. Eek

I've been payin for flood insurance since 97 for that reason. I don't think I'll need it yet but it's reassuring to have it when it's flooding like this.

They get some kind of FEMA flood insurance, right? Or not.

I am glad to see the word is getting out to the Nation about this tragedy. Today is twelve years to the day that Hurricane Katrina struck the Mississippi Gulf Coast. I understand completely what people are going through. There are a lot of people here with PTSD as a result of that storm.

I will never forget the help from volunteers who came from throughout the country to help us for the following months. It made a huge difference in our recovery and I personally will be forever grateful. Many were church affiliated groups with no personal ties to the area that helped gut houses and perform repairs.

80 percent of the people do NOT have flood insurance. Federal help on a huge scale will be needed.

The city of Friendswood just stated that out of 3000 homes that are flooded they estimate 2000 had no flood insurance since they are not in a flood plain.

I believe flood insurance has to be purchased separately from a home owners policy. FEMA is technically who people buy the insurance from and is the insurer but many insurance brokers handle it. If it hasn't been purchased specifically, then there is no "flood" coverage, per se. Although I think FEMA might be able to offer low interest loans, etc. If you're out of a certain level of floodplain(s) you might feel safe enough not to buy it, even though it would be cheap compared to folks that are in a floodplain. I bet many fall into the unfortunate circumstance of feeling safe enough to pass on FEMA insurance. They will be on their own, I believe.
