I'm sure someone has mentioned this already in the first 15 pages, but it's a good reminder to store food and water, and have a 72 hour kit.

My cat and I evacuated this morning. Spring creek was supposed to rise 2 foot higher than the record floods during the April 2016 tax day flood and I saw a window of opportunity to get out so I took it. Had to get pretty creative to get onto I-45 after my first 4 options were flooded out.

I have made it to Centerville and Im stopping for lunch. Saw flooded rivers and drains all the way to Madisonville.

Well, here's someone having a little fun with things. I kinda wonder if it's their house though. I've also seen where there are gators in lots of places that they normally aren't found. Eek

Hey, Tatortodd. What were things like up north.... specially at Cypress Creek Parkway and I45, just south of Spring? Is I45 driveable?

I'm in the same neighborhood as TTodd. Holding down the fort at home at the moment.

I went out this morning & I45 was shut down at Louetta, forced exit there. I took the feeder down to Cypresswood & turned around. Nothing but brake lights south of Cypresswood.

Took 99 from Rayford to 45, the creek is very high, much more than it was during the floods last year.

Yep. You didn't really want to drive around much over the last couple of days and there's branches and leaves all over the place. No major flooding, no major wind damage. Except for the wind show Saturday night, there really wasn't too much of anything.

Opus Dei, it looks like a big part of the problem is that that bastard Harvey is staying pretty focused.

And a ham radio. I've got two books on them and keep saying I'm going to take the test and buy a radio and start into it, but haven't yet followed through.

I am not from that area but I agree.

My brother's house in Cypress (near Longwood Golf Club) has 3" of water in it. He had about a foot of water in April 2016. He's lived in Houston less than two years and this will be his second flood requiring major repair to his home.

I don't think he plans on retiring in Houston. Needless to say, he and his wife are a bit stressed out. At least this time around they have flood insurance.

Anyone have any info on driveability of 99 from 45 to 290? And 290 from 99 outbound?

Family had a flight into Houston that was re-routed to Austin. Working on logistics.

2nd route would be 45 north to Huntsville then over to 290 via College Station.

Carriers Offer Free Services in Wake of Hurricane Harvey
by Karl Bode
Monday Aug 28 2017 14:00 EDT

Wireless and fixed-line ISPs are lending a hand in the wake of the devastation caused over the weekend by Hurricane Harvey. Of the 7,804 cell sites across the impacted region, 320 are out of service, or about 4% notes the FCC. The hardest-hit areas are Aransas County, Refugio County, Calhoun County and San Patricio County, notes the agency. All told, at least 148,565 people in the path of the hurricane were without cable or wireline service as of Sunday, according to the FCC's report.

Many cell towers have battery backups or backup generators to ensure towers remain online, but getting to these towers with the level of devastation is proving unsurprisingly difficult.

So when a highway gets completely submerged, including bridges etc, I'm assuming the ground beneath the roads is saturated or permeated with water.

How do the experts check the integrity of the roads and bridges? Visual inspection? Can you even inspect the foundation below some of the highways?

If this kind of discussion is not preferred in this thread, please let me know and I'll start a new thread.

They're designed to drain. You know you have integrity problems when you see more developing cracks and potholes than you do on other sections of road.

I got on 45 at 99 so I don't know. Easy driving on 45 with much less traffic than normal

My parents still have a house in Fox Run this looks close.

Back in the day we would go back in the woods and shoot. Used to shoot my marlin Mod 60 and Mini-14 back behind Fox Run and the drainage ditches that fed Spring Creek back there. Now full of houses. I hope Spring Creek behaves.

Texas Activates All 12,000 National Guardsmen "In Response To Harvey Devastation"

http://www.zerohedge.com/news/...e-harvey-devastation

Maj. Gen. John F. Nichols, Texas Adjutant General, said that "we will not rest until we have made every effort to rescue all those in harm's way. We will remain here as long as we are needed. I want to thank Govemor Abbott for his continued leadership and look forward to serving the great people of Texas."

As reported earlier, more than 30,000 people are expected to be placed temporarily in shelters, FEMA Administrator Brock Long said at a news conference on Monday. The George Brown Convention Center in downtown Houston now has about 2,500 people, up from 1,000 last night, as people continue to arrive at the center.

Wendy Rom, 24, was among those taking refuge at the center with her husband and 1 1/2-year-old daughter. "The water was high, entering our house," she told Reuters, "so we moved to the second floor but they started evacuating the neighborhood so I came with my whole family."

Dallas, 240 miles (386 km) north of Houston, also was setting up a "mega shelter" at its convention center to house 5,000 evacuees, the city said in a statement.

As also reported previously, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers said Monday that it was releasing water from two nearby reservoirs into Buffalo Bayou, the primary body of water running through Houston.

"If we dont begin releasing now, the volume of uncontrolled water around the dams will be higher and have a greater impact on the surrounding communities," said Colonel Lars Zetterstrom, Galveston district commander of the Corps.
