Somehow that's funny, being drier in a car wash than outside. I don't fancy his chances of making it through the night.

I still show ended 40 minutes ago.

Click on his handle and it will bring up his recordings since. I don't think he is live now, but he just finished a video of the eye.

The 10 PM update has both good news and bad news. The bad news is that it came to shore as a Cat 4 hurricane, and the Texas coastline between Corpus Christi and Victoria needs prayers. The good news is the new projected path doesn't have it stalling, re-entering the GoM, gaining energy, and hitting Houston on Wednesday.

Yes, there are 3 parts to a hurricane:
  • The eye - The region at the center of a hurricane about which the winds rotate, but which itself is relatively calm.
  • The dirty side - on a north bound hurricane rotating counterclockwise, the dirty side is east. The dirty side has more storm surge, more rain, etc. because of the wind rotating over the water before hitting the coast.
  • The clean side - on a north bound hurricane rotating counterclockwise, the clean side is west. The clean side has less storm surge, less rain, etc. because of the wind rotating over the land before hitting the coast.

NHC still has it stalling a looping back to the coast but then a more NNE track taking to about Lagrange on Wednesday. Haven't seen any composite models that don't show similar. Where did you see the forecast that doesn't show a stall?

ETA just read your post more carefully and see that you were just saying it would not go as far east as Houston by Wednesday.

I didn't say it wasn't stalling, I said it wasn't doing ALL of the following: stalling, re-entering the GoM, gaining energy, and hitting Houston on Wednesday

Outside of his car, broadcasting from inside the eyewall where it is calm. Hurricane went right over him. That is pretty cool.

That's one way to put it.

I was in the eye of Hurricane Charley, but not voluntarily as predictions, even that morning, were Charley was heading for Tampa which is 90 miles north of where I was. It's not exactly a bucket list item. Being outside in a vehicle during a hurricane is stupid.

I expect there will be few if any looting incidents here - different demographic than the Katrina crowd.

But - I certainly hope any mention of the word looter is followed by a phrase that includes shot/arrested/beaten by residents!

We had light rain throughout the night, some wind, nothing remarkable.

Wind and rain have picked up a bit now, heavier than at any point up until now. Forecast is for 8" in next 24 hours, winds in the 30-40 mph range.

Luckily, I have enough willpower to control the driving ambition that rages within me.

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible." - Justice Janice Rogers Brown

Heavy stuff just started a couple minutes ago here in N Houston. On radar, it's a big red band.

Off & on bands of heavy rain here, enough to outpace the rain gutters. Pool level has risen a good bit, winds not too bad.

    Stay safe everyone.

Same here on the East side (Deer Park).

The red in the outer band on the radar is basically coming right over our house.

Im in Spring. Cypresswood and Treaschwig for those nearby. Lots of steady rain. Looks like it was much worse in the wee hours of the morning. Water and dirt lines on my back patio got pretty high. French drains are working though.

There is a Wunderground Personal Weather Station at the community pool about 2 blocks away. We didn't get much rain before midnight (~.3"), but have had 4.2" since midnight. Worst of it was 8 to 9:30 today where it was coming down at 1.7" per hour. So far, the swales the builder put around my house are taking the water to the street and the street drains are taking the water away.

Just as I started typing the FEDEX guy drove by on my street. I was very surprised they are out delivering considering the Houston area flooding I'm seeing on the news.
