In the minority here I guess. Yep I’ll be cheering on Team USA for the next 2 weeks. Looking forward to track events. 1500, 5K, 10K and the Marathon should be epic. So much talent in the men’s and women’s fields. Only watch swimming once every 4 years but the wife and I get into it. I’m a sucker for sappy sports stories so I gobble this stuff up. Also looking forward to watching the speed climbing events.

I'm watching USA women's softball right now. Monica Abbott is a dominating pitcher. 6'3" lefty with a unique throwing motion and a cannon for an arm.

This one is worth watching. Lee is a hardworking, very level headed athlete. 20+ years of steadfast dedication to improving her craft, maximizing her physical and mental abilities and control. First American Gold ever, in a throw-back American versus Russian competition

Thanks for posting the foil match, definitely a proud moment for that young lady and the USA. There are standout moments even in these Olympics and this one answers Para’s desire in terms of a type of ancient, raw athletic performance. Yes there are modern touches but no one cannot question the speed and finesse demonstrated by the fencing athletes. Only wish there were more moments like this!

Coincidently they just replayed the match for gold on NBC and I caught it. The reaction of her and her coach was really fun to watch.

They've been through a lot together, including her prior 2 Olympics, and, most poignantly, the loss of his wife.

The USA also got a first time Gold medal (I think) in women's Taekwondo in the 57kg category. Anastasija Zolotic, 18 years old.

Me, too. And to hell with people like the US Women's Soccer team. I think there are US athletes that are worth watching. Also, there are events that I really enjoy watching--equestrian, archery, rowing and shooting are my favorites.

Lee Kiefer's win for gold was fun to watch, and the prior match she had to win to advance was great.

I won't go that far... but I don't really have any interest in watching the Olympics. I'm not even really sure why... I used to watch it but I just don't have an interest this time around.

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

Now, Jim, you know you shouldn't be promoting your youtube channel like that.

Have the Jamaicans yet stomped Rapidhole?

Or New Zealanders? Don't the Russians have a soccer team?

Read in the news that the cry babies on the mens USA basketball team got beat in their first Olympic game. Might tune for the next game hoping to see them literally on their knees.

Why cry babies? Are they making excuses?

Channel surfing last night and stumbled into coverage of men's skateboarding.

Really?

How in the name of Zuess's butthole did this become an Olympic sport?

This wasn't the typical skate park or half pipe, it was basically riding a skateboard down a stair railing with ear buds in place and a iPhone in their back pocket. Half of them ate shit and ended up on their ass or faceplanting. The ride is less than 30 seconds. And this is worthy of an Olympic medal.

The skateboarding was pretty weak, I agree.

There are actually 4 new Olympic events: skateboarding, surfing, sport climbing and karate. The only one I'm really behind is karate, and that is not yet a permanent addition (will not be an event at the 2024 games in France).

When they initially pulled wrestling from the 2020 games back in 2013 I was like, what?? They reversed that decision, but my trust in the IOC was pretty much spent. It was shaky at best, prior.

So you'd have had skateboarding, but no wrestling? There are a finite number of sports more "Olympic" than wrestling, as in, very damn few... I wrestled in high school, as well as skateboard to this day (I'm an odd 57YO skater Wink ), but one of them isn't an Olympic sport...
