He has 4 years remaining in his term
Republican gov Duecy is seeking re-election. I'd say appointing his daughter is a real possibility.

Yeah, I just can't wait for the State funeral and the lying in state for a week in the Capital bullshit. All the swamp critters will be crawling over themselves to get in front of the camera with fake tears rolling down their cheeks just to show what good, inclusive, and bipartisan Americans they really are. Roll Eyes

I suspect the worship for this guy is going to be sickening. Thankfully, in a week, he'll just be a bad memory.

I respect John McCain's refusal of an early release by the North Vietnamese, and honor his service. By the same token, it offends me that ANYONE can spend over 30 years as a member of Congress.

And then pass the mantle on to their kin.

These people become so inured in these position, with all of the perks, that they deem themselves "elite" and know better than the common citizen what is best for them. McCain was no different, allowing himself the hubris of turning away from what's right for the country to a vindictive, self-serving caricature of a "public servant."

As the old saying goes, "Go with God, John McCain. But go."

You can't truly call yourself "peaceful" unless you are capable of great violence. If you're not capable of great violence, you're not peaceful, you're harmless.

A war hero doesn't conspire with the enemy.

A solid family man doesn't fuck around on and leave his wife who stood by him.

A dedicated Senator doesn't knowingly fuck over the better percentage of the entire country out of selfishness.

No, I have nothing good to say about John McCain. Am I glad he's dead? No, not really, but I am damn glad that he's finally out of the Senate (which should have and would have happened better than a year ago were he not so selfish).

Don't forget his role in stonewalling the investigation of hundreds of MIAs/POWs that were abandoned or executed in Vietnam after we withdrew.

I'm not one to piss on his grave.
I think in his latter years his illness corrupted his thinking.
I never thought of him as a "hero" albeit he was a patriot.
Now that he is gone lets just move forward and forget/forgive his recent transgressions.
He was never an uber-conservative but there have been much worse in the Rep Party that is for sure.
Times are a changin' and time to move on to MAGA-Land.

It was all his years that his thinking was corrupted. Just look back over his years in politics, and before. The Keating Five/Savings & Loan scandal is just one example - and that was 30 years ago.

Good riddance to bad rubbish.

Good post. The man served our country. I didn’t agree with his politics, length of term in government, so many things, but he served our country in war time and deserves the respect for that. RIP John. Time to move on.

Yay!

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

He served his country and I respect him for that. I wish his family peace in this tough time. I certainly won't miss him as our senior senator.

RIP Senator.

We are hoping for a strong real republican to be appointed ...... tick, tick, tick.

A question for you and the fellow Arizona folk....Is Cindy McCain seriously under consideration for appointment to the seat?

It is impossible to know - Our Gov. Ducey is very tight with the McCain family. The appointment could be for Cindy or the daughter if he puts it back into the McCain family.

The appointment for either of them would not be good for Republicans. They are both likely to vote just as John would have.

Ducey is up for re-election and has to make it through the primary. He may wait until after the primary to make the appointment to avoid election problems.

We must wait . . . . tick, tick, tick
