Does it really matter anymore? Since the Obama era, flags have been at half mast so often that I sincerely cannot keep track of why the flag is lowered. I think we should go back to the times when flag lowering was reserved for the really signifiant people, or national tragedies.

And no, the flag shouldn't go down for McCain. Not because of his politics, but because he was *only* a U.S. Senator, veteran, and failed presidential candidate. There are so many people who fit some of this description, that if we were to honor McCain with the flag at half mast, we might as well keep the flag lowered permanently. There are many WWII/Korean/Vietnam vets who fought valiantly and are passing away daily, and there are tons of long serving ex-Congress members. Lets save the flag lowering for the truly great and significant.

Think of it this way. If McCain deserves the flag at half mast, then wouldn't John Kerry as well? Uh, no thanks.

Man, these are some rough comments! Aren't there any Democrats on this forum to defend the guy? Meanwhile, the networks are using yet another opportunity to bash Trump. This morning, after two or three minutes of tributes that would have made Jesus blush, they end with "So far, no comment from President Trump, who has disparaged Senator McCain in the past."

This isn't about simply having a political disagreement with someone. McCain has literally ruined millions of lives and caused injury to this country with his actions as a Senator. Whether his decisions have been small-minded spite of the President, or simply awful judgment born of an illness that has affected his brain, we cannot be sure, but we do know his outsized ego caused him to remain in office long after he should have stepped down.

He has proven to be a terrible cancer and, while not nearly on the scale of a Hitler, Stalin or Hussein, his death does bring some hope in a brighter tomorrow. This sentiment has been created by McCain himself, not those of us who are anxious to see his cancerous presence in DC come to an end.

Trump should call for compassion for a poor soul whose brain was so riddled by cancer,

he started voting democrat before his passing.

mccain only cared for one thing - himself. He wasn't a "poor soul" - he was an enemy to the good, free, liberty-loving people of this nation. I take no joy in his condition nor in his impending death, but our country will be a much better place without him.

His voting record was not the result of cancer; it was the result of his own ego and petty grudges against the REAL Republicans.

He was a hateful, spiteful little tyrant. I consider myself a compassionate man, but I don't have much to spare for this traitor.

the bastard is still breathing....

which is too bad actually

as far as Trump going to the funeral, I'd rather he visit a sewage treatment plant - better smell

McStain has done everything he can to undermine President Trump and his agenda (which by the way was voted on by the people) and tried to screw the country at every turn

perhaps there is someone on the custodial staff that could go in Trump and Pence's place

I've been holding my tongue on this one. After careful consideration, I'm just gonna say it'll be a blessing when he's no longer breathing our oxygen. I feel badly for his family for having to endure this. That is all...
