I get fined if I don’t keep a defensible perimeter around my house. The fire dept inspects and the work needs to be done whether by me or by their contractors at my expense. Meanwhile public lands, whether municipal, state, or fed, where these fires often start remain overgrown and full of dry fuel waiting for a spark and some wind to cause a disaster. My neighbors snd I could clear cut our residential lots but that wouldn’t matter at all if a spark and some wind get together in one of the regional parks or public open spaces just a mile away or less away. Add the acceptance and encouragement of tent cities with open flames for cooking or warmth and the bomb is ticking.

VDH delivers the truth in style:

https://x.com/VDHanson/status/1877447211321373096

LA is burning. And the derelict people responsible are worried that they are found out as charlatans and empty suits.

The leftwing voters who enabled them are getting angry over the inferno that their chosen politicos green-lighted—as if they are shocked, shocked by the consequences of their voting.

The dam buster Nero Newsom made his accustomed fiddling appearance and then split—when the media began pointing out that he prohibits new reservoirs, sends precious water out to sea, blows up dams, prevents precautionary gleaning of forests and chaparrals, and then usually blames “Climate change” or “Trump” when called to account.

Poor Karen Bass was DEI-ing in Uganda after being previously warned that lack of rain, record winds, and kindling-like hillsides put her city in existential danger: Out of sight, out of mind.

Or did she junket across the world to consult about fire prevention with Ghana’s new president?

Was slashing nearly $18 million from the $50 billion city budget, after bragging about creating “451 new positions” in various woke/DEI fields, a way to prevent 25-square miles of Dresden-like desolation?

The embattled Fire Chief Kristen Crowley for two years has bragged not of response time, not of preventive strategies to stop fires, not of slashed budgets and water shortages, but instead about her DEI credentials as the “first” (fill in the blanks) LGBTQ etc. woman, who has hired “70 percent” of her force as either nonwhite, or nonmale, or nonbinary, or non-old fashioned, tough-guy firefighters.

The LA utility head? Usually AWOL. The permanent director of LA infrastructure is usually quickly fired or resigns for incompetence, bribery, or malfeasance.

Joe Biden? He was there—but only to try to put thousands of acres of federal land off-limits to roadblock the evil incoming Trump administration.

Did Joe have ideas to save LA? Maybe, but as usual he talked instead about himself—in this case his new great-great grandson and the miraculous salvation of his grandkid’s house (not the 1100 structures that then were ashes). And then he left, dispirited that his last junket to Italy may have to be cancelled.

Kamala Harris, our vice president?

Remember her during the 2024 campaign and how she rushed to Florida to glom onto Gov. De Santis’s masterful performance in dealing with record flooding?

Nowhere was the LA resident to be seen, as she too plans next week a last minute multimillion-dollar freebie junket.

What is the attitude of these “public servants” in times of existential crisis?

Maybe it’s: “Ashes, ashes, all fall down”….

Los Angeles Mayor gets back from her trip to Ghana and has nothing to say, she just outright turns and runs away. Woke leadership in action right here.

After watching 20 or so vids with people complain about the California politicians, and how they are not being taken care of,

I gotta ask,
Each and every one of the people posting,
How many hours a week did you involve yourself in the politics and policies in all of 2024.

But
Now you are all kinds of surprised / concerned ?

You are rational. These people are not rational and do not possess the intelligence to connect the dots.

They only see something to complain about. They know not the why.

On Dec 30, 2021 Colorado had the Marshall fire just outside of Boulder. 991 structures burned. That's gonna be a drop in the bucket compared to these California fires.

They think insurance is crazy expensive now! Just wait!

I get especially frustrated when the person says, so and so Mayor, Governor, etc. should resign. They don't get it ALL. Like the woke politicians are just going to wake up and realize they have been wrong all along. You have to take action and VOTE THEM OUT!!!! They aren't going to voluntarily quit! The woke mind virus tell them they are there to save you.

As a citizen you have to take action, get your neighbors involved, find another better candidate, back them and outvote the wokesters.

My son lives not too far away from the Sunset Fire and saw it flare up

He said they were watching the Palisades fire to see if it would come over the hills and saw burning embers being carried by the high winds. They were ready to leave if the fire crossed the 101...luckily it never topped the ridge.

I wasn't too surprised by the spread of the fires. The Palisades fire was huge and the hills they were on are pretty tall. The winds were very impressive...from what he described to me, almost hurricane velocities

In 2022 LAFD Chief Kristin Crowley said:

”The LAFD is fully committed to creating positive change. With the new DEI Bureau, the Department will develop and drive forward key diversity, equity, and inclusion strategies and initiatives to enhance the LAFD’s work environment and performance. We will maximize our efforts to build and promote a culture where our diversity is truly valued and our work environment is safe and supportive for all.”

Call me old fashioned, but maybe they should first and foremost be committed to fighting fires as efficiently and effectively as possible. Focus on job “1” so to speak…

Sad but accurate, picture is worth a thousand words

You get this...
You know she voted for him, she supported all the Dems positions and defended them most likely to friends, likely wrote an opinion piece to the local rag, probably canvasing for voter registration, now, NOW she's in the world of her own making. If she was a conservative she'd have told him to efF-off but, she wants a dialogue, she's nearly prostrating herself to him, pleading for him to wave a magic wand or, an executive order.

Yes, almost $18 million diverted from the fire dept to illegal aliens as far as housing, credit cards, etc. Bass wanted $23 million but "only" got 18 mil. Out of the 18, $13 mil was from the department's funding for supplies and equipment, and the rest from salaries. And this does not count the $250 million in the L.A. budget she allocated to the homeless population.

I don’t wish to make this post about politics but a thought of competence. Para, if inappropriate my humble apologies in advance and please discard…

The cost of this debacle will be absolutely unprecedented in our nation’s history and absolutely unaffordable for our nation’s future. Notwithstanding competence, I am truly amazed at the salaries that have been disclosed for these city “leaders”.

Likely collusion and incompetence coupled with corruption makes horrific results. Finally, I offer for your consideration, kakistocracy. My new word of the day.

Noun.

Definition: Government by the least suitable or competent citizens of a state.

Newsom mouth can’t do nothing but lie…

”I’m literally on the phone with the president right now”

Can I listen to the call?

”Well, I'm trying to call, see like 5 times”

Why won’t the president take your call?

”I don’t have service, gotta go somewhere to get service”

Amid Palisades fire, Los Angeles' first LGBTO+ fire chief is proving lesbians get it done

Instead of giving clicks to the rag with the headline, here is a link to an article deriding the rag for the headline…

There's now fire north of the 101.

Currently 6 active named fires, with a total size of approximately 35,000 acres.
