You are spot on!

No, they'll just do what many of the other Democrat Californians do: leave CA because they're tired of the Democrat-related bullshit (fire and water mismanagement being just one symptom of many), move to a different state, and then try to impose all their Democrat bullshit there like it won't end up with the exact same result in a few decades.

They're going to take their fat insurance checks, move to Texas/Idaho/Montana/etc., buy an even bigger house for half the cost (but double what a local would be willing to pay), and continue on doing the same damn thing.

Epic Adam Carolla rant from a hotel after the LA wildfires forced to evacuate from his home, where he predicts Hollywood leftists will be so frustrated by the rebuild effort that they will not vote Democrat:
"You guys all voted for Karen Bass, the mayor of Los Angeles. You all voted for Gavin Newsom, and now you fucking get what you get. now that your house is on fire.
So here's what's going to happen. All these people who are deep blue Democrats are now going to have to pull a permit to rebuild, and they're going to get the 28 year old bitch from the Coastal Commission telling them to go fuck off and then they're going to vote for Trump or whoever's Trumpian next.
When they start getting the regulation, they're going to go nuts. And when they start running into the bureaucracy and the red tape, they're going to start going nuts and they're going to vote for Rick Caruso next time.
They're going to find out they're going to get bit by their own snake. They're going to convert. I am telling you, these are the bluest people on the planet and they're going to be fucking rip shit pissed when the City and the Coastal Commission tell them to fuck off.
We're going to have to restructure the whole thing because we can't have nine angry lesbians controlling everything that goes on in Malibu, the Palisades and Santa monica."

This is why Californians pay the highest taxes: So that their government can completely fail them in their time of need.

In regards to the brush and vegetation that homeowners have allowed to build up being a major part of the problem, I ran across this post on Reddit:

quote:
Can confirm. I was just speaking about this to my Dad yesterday. He's a retired Los Angeles County Fire Captain.

He basically said this will burn bad for certain homes becuaee the residents refuse to pick up the brush.. but other parts that the county manages will be okay...Because county Fire department keeps the forest brush clean. But the residents refused to do so, so they had to start giving fines to the residents.

One place that is not burning yet that (if it ever does)

Bel aire

L.A CITY Fire Department manages Bel Aire.(which is where are all the self anointed "elites" live) think "Fresh prince of Belaire". City doesn't enforce or even have a brush fire clean-up program... he basically said that Bel-aire is one giant Fire-Hazard... its not currentlyon fire but when it burns its going to look like a moon-scape. If you ever drive through Bel aire pay attention to the power lines. They're ALL criss-crossed which is not normal. But they're rich and don't have to fix it. The first thing a fire department has to do is clear the power lines before they enter into a brush fire area if it's impeding the road way.

Well Bel aire has criss crossed power lines over their road ways plus about 75 years of Fuel (dead Leafs and brush they dont clean).

If it was possible to bet money on the worst that will ever happen (if it happens) Bel air.

Edit:

CORRECTION!!! It's looking like Bel aire WILL BURN!!!!!!!

It's going to look like a MOON SCAPE!!!!!!

The sensationalist tone aside, interesting info and perspective. If a lot of the basic fire hazard prevention stuff was flouted because the residents were rich enough to tell the county and city to piss off with their codes and regulations, then I guess it just sucks to be them. When this is all over, it’ll be interesting to see the fallout and whether there are any lessons learned. When Seattle burned down, they raised the city up something like twenty feet and rebuilt everything in stone instead of wood. Maybe LA will be rebuilt out of ethically-sourced organic bamboo so it’ll burn down faster next time.

It will be very interesting ,
After seven years to compare both this (these ) fires and the lahiani fires.

The effects, the dollars, the amount of rebuilding, the numbers of people affected,
The aid offered.

Hard to believe it is not the same place that we designed a computer-aided dispatch system for the County and worked with the Administer John Englund in 1974.

We visited the Fire Camps where they had steaks and pies for lunch. Big Grin
Some of the people were convicts that cleared fire trails, etc.

One time we were returning from a site survey and got in a snow squall when in a Bell Jet Ranger with the turbine intake facing forward. The snow could accumulate on the front and slide into the intake. The pilot was looking for a helipad and flew up a box canyon. Fun times. Cool

Corrola knows,
A good friend clear the hell out in Yucaipa ,ca
Took 6 years to build a house instead of 2 years ,
Because of the permit process ..

(but it was during covid)

Instead of $750,000, it went to $1,500,000.

Yes, almost $18 million diverted from the fire dept to illegal aliens as far as housing, credit cards, etc. Bass wanted $23 million but "only" got 18 mil. Out of the 18, $13 mil was from the department's funding for supplies and equipment, and the rest from salaries. And this does not count the $250 million in the L.A. budget she allocated to the homeless population.

LA city population is more than 20 other states, LA county population is more than about 40 other states. Depending on illegals being counted. Seems just too big and unwieldy. Nearly 10 million people in the cohnty paying taxes and they can’t get it right ?

I don’t. I wish they’d all line up on the beach and swim to Hawaii. If they make it that far, perhaps they can swim to Somalia.

Even more money was sidetracked to support the Homeless Industrial Complex which has gotten even bigger since special legislation was passed a couple of years ago in Los Angeles County.

What hasn't been mentioned yet is the possible incentive to see older single family homes owned by seniors burn down. Under a constitutional measure passed decades ago, homeowners have a statutory right to limited property tax increases, based on the value of the home when it was purchased. Hence, homeowners living in high value properties weren't hit so hard by an increase in property taxs to the point where they were forced to sell their homes and move elsewhere (like out of state). If they did sell, the new owners would have a tax on the home tied to the new assessed value vs what the previous owner had.

If a "legacy" owner has lived in his/her property for decades and the house burns down (forcing the owner to find new residence), the lot would be sold to someone new, who'd build a new house there and would thereby incur a far higher tax burden due to the new (greatly increased) value of the property. With this in mind, why wouldn't the leftists in the state want to see older homes lived in by residents that they (the "progressives") believe aren't being taxed highly enough, want to prevent the destruction? Typically, these older homes are owned by older people that the relatively young "progressives" feel aren't "paying their fair share."

These property tax schemes always come down to a battle between young and old.

Property tax increases have become a HUGE and growing problem for many people. The largest part of the property tax is always the school district. The young "progressives" always want to raise the property tax "for the children" but the older people, who don't use the schools are often taxed out of their ability to stay in their homes.

The only solution is private education, but the whole system will have to collapse before we get away from government run schools.

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."
