What are the chances under "Classified Section" have a WTB , WTT and a WTS? Again, is just a question.

It's a possibility. If nothing else, three sections would mean that a member's ad would stay on the front page of a given section much longer than it does now. Also, it would make a poster's intent clear immediately, eliminating the need to put a "WTS" or "WTB" prefix in the subject line, though it would likely still be necessary for WTT ads.

All of the above would have no effect on our main purpose in all of this, which is to better regulate member behavior in Classifieds and eliminate fraud.

I understand, I figure the question didn't really help the "Classifieds Rule Suggestions" but I wanted to ask anyways. Thanks for the quick reply/post.

Restricting Classifieds access to forum members would prevent such things. I'm thinking we should carve that rule in stone.

Would that actually have prevented the issue you linked to? If the result still comes up in a search via Google at al, then people are just going to do the same thing, sign up and jump on the item. Or will restricting that part of the forum to members only, effectively make it go offline to all the web crawlers and search engines?

It would have prevented it, yes. Search engines will not pick up content which requires authentication.

Would a 5 year member rule be worth something to consider? As in you have to be a member here for 5 years before you can sell shit?

This is the exact post which made me come over here to have another look through this thread.

Well done Para, keeping this about regular members is what makes this the type of community it is.

Even a relatively short waiting period for new members would have stifled this one.

5 years seems a bit steep.
Maybe a post count/time combo?

Something like 1 year or x posts before posting access is granted?
That way lurkers who post rarely still get the option to participate?

Five years is, to say the least, excessive.

And now, for a visit from the mysterious Michael Spector, who has a pistol he wishes to sell to a forum member. He's not a member of the forum (not really, but apparently he does have an account, so that he can see member email addresses), but he hangs around Classifieds and does his best to help out members- here, for instance: https://sigforum.com/eve/forum...060075984#9060075984

What a great guy. Please take note of the name and the email address:

Yeah i figured but it does push a point and narrative about not fucking around. Sorry I was just throwing it out there as a suggestion. My apologies Para.

No one needs to apologize for any questions or suggestions they pose. The idea behind this thread is to let all members participate in the process of determining what we need to do to keep these bottom feeders out of here while at the same time, refraining from turning the screws too tight.

Ask questions, make suggestions. You can see the pace I'm taking this. The right answers will reveal themselves in time.

This is probably to excessive but is it possible that registration to classifieds requires identity verification or bank linking. Something that would require people to prove who they are before dealing in classifieds.

I see it every where nowadays. Having to provide info to verify tour identity sounds scary but the majority of us do it online daily with companies regardless of their track record for data safety.

Minimum of 200 posts AND 2 years membership seems reasonable to me.

I'm not sure how this could be regulated/enforced, however.

As far as regulating / enforcing, that shouldn't be too difficult. If criteria like this were to be adopted and the forum software does not support enforcement, posts intended for the classifieds could be directed to a moderated queue. A few moderators could be appointed (NO, I am NOT volunteering for this Wink) to vet posts for compliance. No need to load parabellum down with extra work for routine triage.

Simple objective decision, either yes it's in compliance, or no it's not. Appeals could be escalated.

Sounds like a no brainer, it restricts the total buyer audience of SF classifieds to SF members, prevents outsiders from scanning the for sale items.

Do like the idea of the WTS an WTB sections not sure how that would stop anyone from going into a WTB ad and offering up the product the poster is asking to buy, validate that it exists and isn't a scam... Might make it easier to police...

The amount of time here rule doesn't seem as important as the number of posts, I could sign up and sit here as many have for years before deciding to enter the world of SF posters, but 2 years in the hole, and 200 seems reasonable.

I think the rules are fair and I believe that Para has a good handle on it.
Personally I've bought way too many guns off the internet as well as gun related stuff and have never had a bad experience. Seems gun folks here and on the one other forum I'm on, "R.com', are the top of the line people. the first thing I look at when I see something I'm interested in in the classifieds is how many post the seller has made ... sometimes if it's low, less than say a couple hundred, I'll go and look at their previous post.
