Perhaps dumb questions, but:

1) he is being charge with filing a false police report which is a felony,
2) could he not also be charge with:
a) a hate crime as he was blaming white MAGA republicans (thus racism and political)
3) using the USPS to mail a threatening letter - terrorism?
4) attempting to incite a riot/retribution?

Thanks. I really think he needs to be made an example of. What he did was wrong on so many fronts all for personal gain while hurting some many others.


Personally I think the charges could pile up and he should spend a lot of time in prison.

This is proof that just because someone is 'successful' doesn't mean they are remotely smart.

Most teens out there could look at this plan and say "Ah, this isn't very smart, there are so many ways we could get caught doing this....".

As much as it smacks of racism, it is highly doubtful this is a hate crime because hate crimes are generally brought where the victim has unchangeable characteristics. Being in favor of or supporting MAGA does not make one a hate crime victim.

I'm seeing reporting saying CPD says his motivation was strictly financial, a publicity hoax, I guess. I'm no legal expert, but that doesn't sound like they're pursuing a "hate crime" to me.

If two white guys attack a black guy because he's black, then it's a hate crime.

If a black guy stages a fake attack as two white guys attacking him because he's black, it's the exact same crime.

Remember, hate crime isn't about the criminal acts, but the intent (thought) behind it. In both cases the basic intent was the same.

He identified the “assailants” as white. He said the “white” assailants used racist and sexist derogatory terms to describe him. I think filing a false report of a hate crime should carry all the additional enhancements a hate crime does.

Heck, it should even be worse as it is using false hate to incite real hate against the would be haters who didn’t really hate.
