All the blood won't really be the issue… It's the closed-head injury for serious damages.

It doesnt appear much has happened since I last checked this thread around 11pm last night. Well...except my Mother being brought into it on page 24 (classy move) and JALLEN being poked and referred to as "Cochise" on page 28. Notice he hasnt been back. Can you blame him? Well, both my Mom and JALLEN are tough old nuts so Im not to concerned with either. Shame though.

We bumperd two people from my transcon flight this morning. Overbooked. Last I heard we gave them a 1st Class seat on the next flight and a $800 voucher. No cops. Done at the gate. Not entirely sure of the outcome though as folks have been trying to explain here, much of that is done previous with all the other moving parts to the system. I dont micro-manage. They have their job.

I noticed folks have discovered that the employees involved most likely weren't United, but rather an affiliate called Republic Airlines. This after trashing UAL employees. Point to ponder.

As someone who has watched this industry evolve (devolve?) for three decades now, I can tell you what is going to become of this.

Nothing.

Over the next week or so, it will fade away and be replaced by the next internet outrage. Im willing to bet that it wont go to trial after some less than tidy facts emerge. UAL and the City of Chicago will settle for a big check.

...And Spirit will still be selling $9 fares to people who show up to the airport barefoot.

For those of you racing about foreign carriers, as pointed out they are heavily subsidized by their governments. I doubt if we all would want to pay for that, although I have no issue with all of you paying my salary. Ever wonder how this incident would have played out on Emerates or Qatar if the same thing would have happened in say...Dubai?

I still got the best job in the world though. My office window shows me more in a day than most people see in a lifetime. I get paid to drive around $60M pieces of hi-tech machinery. I get compensated well to do it. Its still worth the BS.

I'd like to hear a good discussion on what would make a good Passenger Bill Of Rights. Please give suggestions, not just this particular situation but also, maybe for example, damaged or lost luggage, or whatever.

What would be reasonable for the public and also fair to the airlines?

Assuming this is ok with Para. Probably a separate thread.

There already is a passenger bill of rights. It came about after numerous tarmac delays and stranded passengers. One of the biggest influences in the formation came in the form of a snowstorm in Detroit. The operation at NWA ground to a halt and there was much nastiness. Ironically, Northwest is now part of Delta.

The REAL outcome? I have another checklist in the cockpit and we carry around a big box of cookies to hand out. No joke.

It's great that you got everything sorted before it became a shit show by offering the solution to folks before they were in fact ON A PLANE. Still can't get past that little bit of information can you? As to who actually did this....it was UAL. It was their flight wasn't it? Nice deflection though. As to trashing UAL employees, not really. I think we slapped all the airlines' dicks in this thread. I would hope they find it in their best interests (the airlines) to take notice of what happened and learn from it.

I specifically called Jallen out because I felt that his one word response was a weak. No counterpoints, no rebuttal. It would be nice to see a persons train of thought if they have one. At least give me a reason of why you think I am wrong, don't just trail off and leave the rest of us hanging.

Cut it out. Enough with the victimhood. entropy, what is the point of this tantrum? You're trying my patience.

You need to suck it up, man. Man up, suck it up. And this is not the part where you say something clever back to me. I've had it with this attitude from you that you've been abused. Cut it out.

I can't right now. I'm over KS on the way home. I would also be uncomfortable in posting an official company document on the web. No doubt get in hot water for that somehow. If you do a google on it, I bet it will pop up though. In all likelyhood in a much more complete synopsis and format than I could provide.

In a nutshell, it spells out in detail via "delay timeline" what my responsibilities are as PIC both at the gate and out on the taxiway.

And it spells out the dibersement of cookies of course...

Sloooow internet on AA but let me get home and see what I can scrounge up.

Soo... More customers fucked because of overbooking. Just these ones knew their lowly place and slipped away with no fuss for all the royal majesty airline employees. Good for them, they learned from this whole incident what happens to customers who don't behave....

In other news, a Calgary Man flying on United flight from Houston to Calgary, Canada was stung by a scorpion.

Even the insect world is so pissed over the doc's plight they are dispatching suicide arachnids (scorpion was crushed and tossed into the toilet).

They got a free $1000 upgrade from their coach seat to the next flight in 2 hours, along with $800 flight credit and a $50 breakfast voucher. I think that at that point of the day, 1st Class is a 3-course lunch and champaigne. We've been consistantly named #1 domestic airline for overall service in Candi Nast for I believe the past 6 years running. We do a good job.

Yeah, sounds like they made out pretty well.

Some of you guys, I swear, are just something else sometimes. Did it ever occur to any of you that there are many flyers who pray for oversold situations just so they can get deals like these folks did? My brother happens to be one of them. He jumps at these opportunities because it allows him to travel more often on a very tight budget.

So? No one has been arguing that they shouldn't ask for volunteers and pay them to be bumped.
