We do not need to know the monetary expense. That is something personal no one needs to know.
It could be firearms collecting, cars, motorcycles, boats or anything you do for fun as a hobby.

It started for my wife and I when we were both working for the same company. We were on the same schedule for two years.
We started with Beer Brewing. Once we bought all the equipment to get started we were brewing eight to ten batches of beer a year. It was not that all expensive but after a while the cost did add up.

For a while for my wife and I it was firearms and firearms competitions. We were shooting as many as five matches a month. When I added up the cost of gas, tolls, wear and tear on the car (our club is almost 100 miles round trip from home),ammunition, match fees and lunch afterwards with friends it started to add up. Then add the cost of equipment it got real expensive real fast.

We now only do two matches a month. My wife still runs an event at our club for 400 ladies so we are still going back and forth to the club a lot but not as much.

Now for the last few years it has been Disney Cruises and watches. We have made friends with watch dealers in the islands and have gotten some great deals.

What are your hobby's?

Children... lol.

In reality shooting is probably it. We have been skiing more, so that's a close second.

Motorhome travels every other weekend starting at the end of April to the end of October.
The monthly cost of the Class A itself is just part of the “experience”.
Fuel, maintenance, food , antique shopping, lot fees at RV Parks..
But we absolutely love getting away so to hell with the cost.

Shooting by far, skeet shooting specifically. I was hurt all summer and couldn't participate in any tournaments and I thought something was wrong when I looked at the bank balance. Didn't realize it added up that much.

Boating.

I've got a ski boat and a pontoon boat. Then you factor in the cost of maintenance/repairs, safety equipment, toys, trailers, tow vehicles, fuel, etc.

I really hate this time of year when the boats are winterized and tarped up and I think about all the money just sitting there not being used.

Currently it is a Cessna 172 that turns money into holes in the sky.

My profession is very expensive (video and photography), but that is a job and only rarely, a hobby.

All of them, according to my wife...

Honestly, I imagine it's my addiction to "fixing up" stuff. Motorcycles and tractors mostly. I have never...repeat NEVER...made a nickle at it. With the exception of the bulldozer where I had a rare flash of common sense and bailed before getting in over my head, I have have lost my shirt on every one.

Prime example: 1938 Farmall tractor. Bought for $100. Quit counting at mid-four figures worth of parts and machine shop expenses. All of MY time and labor was free. Played with it for a few years, sold it for about 1/4 of what I had invested. Yeah, I enjoyed doing it, but golf or skiing would have been cheaper.

Similar story with somewhat smaller numbers on half a dozen motorcycles.

After bailing on the dozer this Fall, I cast about for something to do and decided to build a farm diorama using a bunch of my 1/64 scale diecast farm toys. How expensive could that possibly be?

Brass to build stuff out of. 1/64th detail kits. Structure kits. Scenery materials.
Paint and glue. Tools. I'm into low three figures already and not done yet. All for a "toy" that fits on a 2 foot by 4 foot table.

I'm having a blast tho and even my wife thinks it's "cute"...

EDIT: I got stupid, checked receipts and added it up. Damn...

EDIT/EDIT: Realized I shouldn't have posted numbers per the OP.

Building airplanes in my garage. 3 completed; pondering #4. Collecting old Triumph motorcycles is second in a long list of expensive hobbies. Kids don't count, but if they did would certainly be the most expensive Big Grin

Mine would be photography, factor in equipment and travel. This is still cheap compared to my days boating and fishing in NJ, we once figured out a monthly average and had boats for 20 years!

With the eldest heading off to college next year and the other two years behind I am feeling this.

Probably flying though with shooting a close second.

Although some years it seems like farming is a contender. Smile

Fishing. Being well inland, it's nearly exclusively freshwater save for the occasional excursion added to a vacation. Boat, shore, fly, ice. I pretty much do it all when available. Muskie fishing probably takes the biggest percentage of the pie. Local stuff is frequent, but generally economical.

Gun bashes. Kind of like a Bass Fishing tournament. But with no boats. And no fish. And, no water. But I did win 26 guns this year. Smile
