Having been a victim of eBay and craigslist fraud, I have learned MY lesson. My responses to the perpetrators are the reason for my financial loss. A suggested method to avoid loss here could help us all, given the possibility of immoral acts.

I am happy to see the classifieds stay, even though I rarely use them myself. I completely understand the issues that are facing ALL online sales especially these days and the reality is you have to be incredibly careful buying and selling online with the rise of all the scams.

For what it's worth whenever I have sold anything I have always said I was happy to provide any specific pictures requested by a potential buyer. I never did so to prove my veracity but more so to simply show I was representing the item as truthfully as possible.

I also tend to only take postal money orders and only ship once I have have cash in hand.

Now as a buyer about the only thing you can do is ask for other pictures, speak live on the phone, try to only buy from known entities etc. etc.

At the end of the day it can still be a crap shoot and I don't envy Para or any forum admin that has to run a classifieds these days especially one having to do largely with guns and ammo.

So thank you Para and to everybody else IF I sell anything PLEASE ask me for more pictures or a video or whatever I am always happy to do so.

I don't post here much. Don't "log in" much but I'm on here daily. I have used the classified on and off over the years glad it isn't going anywhere.

Great news! I don’t participate too much in the classifieds currently (I need to fix that ) but because of the classifieds section I was able to find many rare Sigs that would have otherwise been incredibly hard if not impossible to find.

Thanks Para. I always browse Classifieds after I read The Lounge and Sig pistol boards. Over the years I have purchased a few pistols, ammo, holsters etc, and I have also sold a few. It's a privilege for members, and it is much appreciated. There is a simple way to never get ripped off. Only do business (especially if you are buying) with well-established members. Thats all there is to it.

Some of you may be amused (or perhaps confused) by this, but in 22 years, I have made perhaps four purchases out of my own classifieds section.

Glad to see it survives, like anything in commerce, craigslist, facebook marketplace, paper classified, forums, there's going to be scammers and problem people. You just have to trust your instincts on buyers/sellers, and google the email and names to see if they come up.

Highlighting their email and name and searching both in google can save you some headache.
There's a thread in the Administrative lounge about being scammed, googling the email comes up with several links to that being linked to fraud, including a post on the S&W forum.

A second name used googled comes up with even more listing of fraud. Always check the buyers email and name through Google, always.... It's not 100% but it's better than nothing.

If someone says they are a member here, like was done then go into that users profile and send them an email, see if it's really them, hate to say it but you just can't trust, you need to verify...

Thanks Para and sorry it's such a headache for you at times. I've bought and sold in the classifieds and appreciate them. Anyone should feel free to hold my feet to the fire when I list something for sale, I'll always provide whatever anyone needs to make it a smooth transaction.

We all know sigforum is not the typical online forum. This is more of a community where everyone agrees to treat each other fairly. Some randoms will no doubt pop in from time to time and have to learn that lesson as well as other who will try to take advantage of what you have fostered here.

Since I've been here you've always been a man of your word and when you said "it's over" I had no doubt in my mind that the classifieds were getting shut down. I'm happy to see that you've reconsidered and I'm sure it will not be the end of your troubles, but thank you in advance for what you will endure to continue indulging our addiction to the classified section.

The classifieds could be reserved for Members who have proven to be a part of the community over years or posts counts. I think the problem of fly by night rip of artists might be reduced if there was a minimum post count and/or membership age. Say 2 years or 5000 posts. Something along those lines so that if someone was intending to rip people off they would have had to start that plan long in advance.

25 posts like on other forums is just a joke.

Thank you Para, I've used the classifieds many times over the years, and I've always had a great experience. We should be weary of any members not well known or someone we know little about. Ask around guys, if they are solid I'm sure someone would vouch for them.

This will be worked out in a separate thread and all members will be able to offer up their opinions and thoughts. Post count and length of membership for permission to use classifieds will be like Goldilocks and the Three Bears- not too much, not too little, but just right.

Let's leave all that for the thread I will create on rules for classifieds.
