Sorry, but that's not enough of a reason to love such a stinking pile of shit so blindly.

This is a movie made for the Hogg kid and others like him; a millennial multi-cultural wet dream, downgrading the evil white male in favor of women and men of color. All driven by a script seemingly written by The Walking Dead writers, with so many plot holes, it would be impossible to patch up.

I really don't "hate" the movie, I'm actually amused at how awful it is.

I finally got around to watching The Last Jedi. I don't see what all the anger is all about.

Some random thoughts:

The story and its meaning in the greater Star Wars universe is subtle and I don't think people like that, which is sad. The writers didn't answer all of the questions, which is good.

Luke was spot on with his opinion and assessment of the hubris of the Jedi. The line about how conceited it was for the Jedi to say "the light is extinguished if the Jedi fall" was so quick and so excellent.

All of the parts about the Resistance and the casino and the SJW saddle-toss, was all a mediocre wrapper. A method of transportation for the meat of the story: What does it even mean to chase the Jedi and the Jedi Order? Should they exist? Should Rey strive to be a "Jedi"? It sure looks like she palmed the ancient texts and stuffed them in a drawer in the Falcon.

The way Luke conned Kylo Ren and then said, "See you around, kid." is so great because Kylo still can't catch a break. He's a broken child that throws tantrums and subordinates out of pure emotion.

I can see how people would be mad about the force-projection, but Kylo even says, "You're not here, the projection would kill you." which it does to Luke. I think people were upset Luke didn't kick-ass, but I don't think it would have made much sense to give us an epic Luke rampage or to-the-death fight between him and anyone else.

Leia can die off-screen for all I care, I'm not sure she serves much of a purpose anyway. (IMO)

Episode 7 served a specific purpose - to bring a generation raised on the prequels, and other youngsters, into the Star Wars Universe. I thought this was handled quite well. It felt similar to Episode IV, down to and including the practical effects and monsters.

Episode 8 seemed to help usher out the old cast, and all of the existing preconceived notions about what the Jedi and the Force are supposed to be. They're expanding the force. They're expanding the protagonists that use the force. That is a very good thing. You can't expect the franchise to continue to thrive on the last 30 years of content and expanded universe. (As an example, look how many people insisted that Rey was connected biologically to Obi-wan and/or Luke after Episode 7 was released. Ugh.) So now they can use the concepts and lore without actually having it be Star Wars Episode Reference.

If anything, Episode 8 made me want to learn even more about the history of the Jedi etc. I think it's going to be pretty neat watching Rey forge her way, with us along for the ride.

Who knows. I could watch it again over the weekend and totally hate it, I suppose. I'd love to see more stuff be made about beings like Bendu and the "grey" jedi in general, so I liked the direction Luke was pushing Rey.

EDIT - These are pretty cool. I found them interesting at least.

subtle? There is nothing subtle in this movie, they beat you over the head with the messages

It does NOTHING to advance the greater Star Wars Universe, except very ham fistedly getting rid of Luke and making Mary Sue.. excuse me Rey the new New Hope.

I have no problem with Luke dying, fine, it was time anyway and I wish the books had killed him a while ago.

But just the way it all went down, Hux was a joke, a punk bitch, Rose was a total waste of a character, just on and on. Luke would never ignore his sister or Chewie asking for help.. etc etc etc.

Fuck you Rian Johnson

Haven’t tried to watch it again since it left theatres. Just concentrating on finishing my saber collection.

Someone gave me the book so I will try reading that when I have some downtime.

If someone uploads all the deleted scenes, please post links Smile

I currently have three Vader's Vault sabers in hand.

Hero (Luke Ep 6, has blue LED with photon blade to make movie green)
Havoc (RGB)
Fury (RGB)

Waiting on a Vader's Vault TFA Graflex with the new NeoPixel blade setup

and a Korbanth Obi Wan Ep 1/2 (haven't decided which pommel I want to use yet) installed with a Nano Biscotte soundcard with tri-cree (rB,B,W) LED.

My final saber will probably be a Korbanth K4 (Obi-Wan ep3 or have it weathered into ep4) which I'm trying to tell myself NO.

Yes, I know I need some sith sabers, but instead of canon sabers, I am waiting for Vader's Vault's next Starkiller run.

Somewhere at my exwife's house is my old Ultrasabers Prophecy which my daughter lost in her room. I got rid of an early saberforge when I had issues with his install. I had a very old Vader's Vault before they were Vader's Vault saber that I gifted to a coworker's son. It still works fine.

I swear, saber collecting is costing me more than gun collecting this past year.

Did you read the thread? The links people posted that go into great detail as to why TLJ sucked? Sucked isn't even a fair description. They turned Luke Skywalker into a butthurt little bitch. Look at Luke in 4, 5, and 6 and look at him in TLJ. Pathetic!

Yeah, according to the piss poor storyline Luke read his thoughts while he was sleeping then tried to kill him. Imagine if you're Kylo, sleeping soundly to wake up to Luke Skywalker standing over you with a lightsaber. For Luke to act so cocky despite all the moaning and wanting to die in solitude was out of his character in the same damn movie they screwed up.

First off, Luke was the only guy who believed Darth Vader still had good in him despite all the awful things he did (and was right). Kylo hadn't done any of that stuff yet Luke gives up on him and tries to assisinate him? It goes against his very nature. Moreover, this wasn't some no name kid who was strong with the force. It was the son of his sister and his close friend. Imagine if he actually killed him. How would that conversation go around the holidays?

You liked the movie, good for you. I saw something completely different that has made me swear off of any more Star War movies.

I am a huge SW nerd, I have all of the old Master Replicas sabers, but they arent the same league as the new custom makers. I have wanted an Ultrasabers one for a long time, every time I save the money something comes up. The Diamond ones seem awesome.

I've got no problems overall with how they handled Luke other than killing Ben Solo in his sleep. I rather liked than they went the Paul Atreides route with him and allowed him to find redemption in the end.

However, the rest of the film is garbage. If the Resistance had that terrible of leadership, they deserve to be murdered. Had they been a competent group, Poe and Finn should have been on a mission for the Resistance at the casino instead of wasting 90 minutes only to find out they're fucking morons that led the First Order to their hiding place.

I also can't remember if this was posted, but if not, enjoy.

Yeah, that's one of the MANY things wrong with this movie.

They took a great franchise, and flushed it down the toilet. Instead of working on a good story line, they vomited out a lame 'plot' (FULL of so many plot holes it's not even possible to suspend my disbelief) and stupid jokes, and didn't even try character development. It was the prequels all over again.

The idea of Luke killing Kylo for what he might do was utterly stupid. Someone should have gotten a swift hard kick in the nuts for even suggesting it. Instead, the fans got the kick to the nuts. It's fascinating though, how people can have such differing opinions about movies and how this one can be utterly despised by some and loved by others. It's like everyone saw a different movie.

Better storyline, character development, choreography, just better everything compared to TLJ. Want strong female leads? Watch the opening scene.

I admit, I have refrained from posting in this thread recently intentionally because I found myself unable to be polite

I will say this

I cannot understand how any serious Star Wars fan liked this movie

Those that say they did, please go through this thread and refute point by point the Many vast and numerous things people have noted were wrong with this movie

This is the same kind of mental disconnect I experience with people politically. I can’t actually see your point of view. On many issues I can understand where people are coming from, even if I don’t agree with them. This isn’t one of those times
