I do understand the business side of this. The scarcity is intentional, and it’s what keeps these watches selling above retail on the gray market. Rolex is also capitalizing on this through its “certified pre-owned” program, making a fortune by controlling both supply and resale. When it comes to the sport models, like the stainless Submariner, GMT, or Daytona, only about 15 out of every 100 watches that leave the factory are those highly sought-after pieces. The other 85 are models that aren’t in as much demand. Authorized dealers use this imbalance strategically: if you want one of the hot models, you often have to build a purchase history by buying some of the less popular pieces first. That’s how allocation works, and it’s why the market stays so tight.

Back in March 2020 My wife and I were in the Cayman Islands while on a Caribbean cruise. While there we stopped at the local Rolex AD. While talking to the salesman, after a while I had mentioned I had purchased my first Breitling from them, and back while you could still get them, my wife Datejust. He then tells me if I wanted a Rolex Deepsea James Cameron it's mine. Like an idiot I turned it down, big mistake. The reason I turned it down, a few months earlier on another cruise I was able to get a Tudor Black Bay GMT when no one else in the country had them. To this day I still kick my self for not buying it. The Land Dweller is a sharp looking watch. A grey market dealers sight I go to has a 36mm listed at just under $30,000. 43 mm but for its size (and my small wrist size) its is quite the comfy watch. So I need some advice from my fellow watch guys… My wife has taken an unexpected interest in watches. I think she’s just trying to have something in common with me. She has started watching a few videos on YouTube. Many of these are from Korea. A lot of the info is just horribly inaccurate. It’s my nature to correct her when the info isn’t correct. The hard part is, she believes that if it’s published in Korean, it’s fact. (I’m not going to try to dispel that as she’s from a different era). So do I accept the inaccurate things she is saying and wait until she’s more interested, and correct this bullshit at a later time, or do I ruin her interest and right the record now? I am one to wait until later as this is the first time in 21 years she has taken an interest in my likes. What would you do?

I hear good things about Pitzmann (Korean) watches, although I'm unfamiliar with other brands from that country. If she's taken a real interest in watches, I'd see if there's any particular model she's interested in and just research it along with others from other countries. I recently "did a thing" and sold off my Tudor Black Bay 41 "Harrod's Exclusive" so I could use the proceeds to get the new Black Bay 68 with the sunburst dial. I felt the old Tudor was running a bit smaller on my wrist than I prefer and besides the beautiful dial, I liked the newer watch's 43mm size. I needed a couple stands for my watches. I was tired of them just laying in the safe and I prefer to store them dial up. Laying them down with the dial up would cause very light scratches to the case back. I had some flat aluminum in the garage and so I mocked these up out of cardstock, then transferred to the aluminum and started cutting. After the last move, I don’t have the proper tools to cut them, so I made do with what I have. I do wish that I had a bandsaw and a brake to bend them, but it is what it is. I bought some non-slip rubber from Amazon to cover the aluminum and for feet. They seem to do the job rather nicely.

Part of the club. IMO, it works best with the 5 link bracelet as seen here and Stick's photo.  Missed the 203 run, so when I heard the 206 was coming out, I put down a deposit for the first shipment. That said, this is my daily.  This message has been edited. Last edited by: Snapping Twig, | |||

I really like the Ulysse Nardin Marine Diver. It is pretty rare to see it on a bracelet. I have only seen it on the blue rubber strap. The detail of the wave pattern on the bezel is a nice touch. What number of the 999 are you? That’s a super cool watch.

 Impressive that you knew about that! I was looking for one since I had turned one down (lack of loot) in Lahina @ '05. I didn't realize they were 40mm and had the magnifier for the date in the dial as opposed to the underside of the crystal and no lume at the 6. Found it through Chrono24 in a small shop in Tokyo. | |||
