Besides the high price, I can't see buying a watch that I can't see (read) the dial on!!! At least with this much more reasonably priced Seiko, the green indices allow the wearer to quickly read the time, day or night.

SOLAR POWERED Quartz! The "Quartz Crisis" is still ongoing I guess, but there's still a market for well made mechanical watches. Wink

Omega, Cartier, and JLC have raised their prices so much in the past few years. They make great watches but are not priced correctly IMO.

I don’t think it’s fair to lump JLC and Omega in the same category. Yes, I know Omega has their own “in house” movements now, it they simply aren’t run as a company the way they were 50 years ago when they were much more exclusive and in control of all parts of their manufacturing. JLC is, in my opinion and those of a few other enthusiast friends of mine, a much more exclusive manufacturer. I put them squarely in the same league as Patek, Vacheron Constantin, A. Lange, etc. JLC might not hold its value like a Rolex or a Patek but they are as high end of a manufacturer as any.

Sooo….

Oldest is home on break from College.
I had to have “That Talk” with him this morning.
He wants one for Christmas.

We talked about Quartz, manual, autos, GMT’s, chrono’s…
Stainless, titanium, canvas, rubber…

I will say, he’s practical.
“I’m not looking for a Rolex. I’m looking for an ‘adult’ watch that I can wear all the time. Don’t get me wrong, there’s cool Rolex’s out there!”

Damn kid brought a tear to my eye.

He actually brought up the Seiko Batman GMT!
I gave him some more options- he’s looking at the Helms and Citizens.

He likes my Marathon GSAR.
The Marathon Chrono, the Omega, and some of the others are “too much for now.”

He’s going down the rabbit hole!

Before anyone says anything-
Not just NO, but HELL NO!
I’m not steering him this way to Sig Forum!
I don’t need this place costing me any more than I’m already spending!

While i love my Speed master, my 30th anavery present from my awesome wife (thanks David T) I think I like my green SeaMaaster even more.

My next ‘nice’ watch I hope will be a No Date Sub. I’d love a VC or a Patek, my PowerBall hasn’t hit……….. yet!
