Aesthetically, I like metal linked bands, but I was somewhat mistaken that they would chew on my wrist. I do like my assortment of leather and silicone straps, though. I knew I was bit by the watch bug when I bought a brown leather strap that matched my western boots, and also the belt I wear with both. Looked up the 'twist-o-flex'. Yup. My dad had a watch with that band. Yeeouch! _________________________________________ Dei. Familia. Patria. Victoria. Don't back up, don't back down.

Thanks for reassuring me about metal bands! Although you don't like straps, I think you might warm up to the straps on Seiko Presages. Not sure how many members have them (long thread, I know jhe and I have them), but in my case, it's a beautifully polished dark blue leather/polished deployant strap with contrasting stitching. _________________________________________ Dei. Yeah, I have a Timex that came with one. Just murderous on my arm hair. Man, there really is no getting away from it: If you get into watches, you're going to be looking at a Seiko at some point. I've been somewhat dismissive out of hand with them because their offerings have tended to be on the pricier end vs features for the money. Lately, I've been really itching for a classic looking field watch and have been looking at the offerings. Enter the SNK803 and SNK809. No, not strictly traditional field watches, but similar in spirit and style. I really like the way both of them look. I only have a few gripes - there's no indexing lume marker, I'd prefer 100m of water resist over 50m, and hacking would be nice. But otherwise, for $100, it's really tempting to snag one as a daily wear. Besides, I really want to try out the famous Seiko lume. Really could go either way between the black or creme dial. ______________________________________________ Carthago delenda est

Isn't it though! This was very popular in the late 1950s to the mid 1960s. You can get these style bracelets from Uncle Seiko and Watch Geko. He who fights with monsters might take care lest he thereby become a monster.

I have the black dial. It's a great watch, especially for the money. Sig P226 .40 S&W Sig SP2022 9mm RIA 1911 Gov't .45 ...and more

Thanks, yeah, it just jumped up on my short list. Lately, my interests in watches have been focused greatly upon daily wear as I realize that any watch that I don't feel like I could wear it to work just isn't getting worn anymore. So the SNK8XX series or the SNZG15 looks like it would be great in such a role for when I don't want to risk banging up my Glycine. I went down the modding rabbit hole last night and the idea of polishing the case, putting an NH35 in there so I can hack and wind, a sapphire crystal and then the wide world of dials and hands just totally sucked me in. Amazon has the blue one on sale for $88, but I think if I spent that on a watch a few weeks before Christmas, my wife would kill me in my sleep. The SNZG13 gets me a lot closer to the specs I think I'm looking for on paper, at least. And then I'm into 22mm straps, which I'm already starting to build a selection of, rather than 18mm. But yeah, I think one of the less expensive Seiko 5's is in my future for a daily "wear to work" automatic to start with. ______________________________________________ Carthago delenda est

I’ve had several of the Seiko V field watches. I wore them for years. Seems like the crystal on those is easily chipped at the edge. I’ve ruined 2 or 3 that way. The crystal stands proud of the watch case, and easily gets whacked.

I have SNZG15J1, and it's exactly as you say: a great everyday watch I'm not afraid to wear to work. Its advantage over some other Seiko models I have is that it's somewhat thinner --> less likely to bang it on things. God bless America.

That Canadian firm only sells to businesses. Tried finding this Mingzhu DG3809-3D movement elsewhere with no luck.... Certifiable member of the gun toting, septuagenarian, bucket list workin', crazed retiree, bald is beautiful club! USN (RET), COTEP #192

While they do offer wholesale pricing if one meets their qualifications and signs up, they also sell to individuals. If you aren't able to buy from them for some reason, I can do it for you. They charge a shipping fee, with the lowest for "Canada Post USA Air" being about $10.

I won an auction on the fleabay a while back and the shipping took a loooooooooooooooong time to update. I was beginning to think maybe I had been scammed when finally this gently used SKX011 J1 (English & Arabic) showed up. The original rubber was fine but Strapcode’s mesh looks and feels superb with the SKX case. My original intention was to use this watch along with a SRP775J1 and essentially just swap the whole movements, dials hands everything out and easily swapped into the other. This watch is in MUCH better condition than I was expecting. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The price of liberty and even of common humanity is eternal vigilance

P220 Smudge, I dig the black dial. For the price, going to order one! stickman428, that band is sharp looking! _________________________________________ Dei. Familia. Patria. Victoria. Don't back up, don't back down.

Congrats -- I love orange dials. I have three watches with orange faces, and one with an orange bezel. Funny enough, I just switched out my daily watch this morning to the latter, an Orient Maxo XL. It's nothing fancy, but I like it...and it's about as close to an orange Omega Planet Ocean as I'll likely ever choose to come...haven't made the leap yet to a four-figure watch, and hope to keep it that way. Beautiful watch! Your choice for the bracelet was spot on!!! "I'm not fluent in the language of violence, but I know enough to get around in places where it's spoken."

Here's my Seiko Field watch. I had the date/day wheels replaced with Monster wheels. Both use the 7S26 movement, so a black background white printing made the most sense.Ties the dial together. White background wasn't right for this watch.

Those field watches P220 Smudge & Snapping Twig posted are gorgeous. I have a black, green and tan SNK. Like a damn fool I missed out on the last infinity crystal ehh I mean color (blue) when my local mom & pop shop was clearing out their inventory at crazy good prices! better than eBay prices. I’m not crazy. Seiko needs to fix the hole in their turtle colorway and offer an orange SKX inspired Turtle. I love the flat orange and SKX markers. The gold & black SRP775 bezel insert will work perfectly with the orange dial and gold hands as it is identical to the SXK011’s bezel insert. Seiko Nemo. Seiko can do orange better than this. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The price of liberty and even of common humanity is eternal vigilance

I really like that Seiko 5 field watch. I am surprised they sell for such a low price. I think Santa is bringing me an automatic watch this year. I have not worn one in about 15 years. My last was a simple titanium Seiko quartz watch that I really did enjoy wearing, but the crystal in it is heavily scratched today.

I was watching a video where a guy explained why this is so. Basically, Seiko priced these around $130-180 or so initially, IIRC. Many other of their models weren't much more expensive at the time. It would likely be a lot more expensive today, (probably $200 or so, about where the SNZG is now) had Seiko not produced so many of them and subsequently lost control of who was distributing them. So instead of the price going up over time as it has with all the other Seiko models, it's gone down over time because of all the non-dealer pricing competition. Seiko reportedly isn't producing it anymore, so what's out there in the supply line is likely what's left. The SNZG is the spiritual successor to the SNK8XX series and they're selling for the price range the SNK's probably would have had Seiko kept control of them. ______________________________________________ Carthago delenda est
