10:20 pm New Years Eve. Several weeks of various respiratory infections, climaxing ( I HOPE) in influenza. Little chance of sleep. No AirPods so Audible is out. I want to second Sigfreund’s request for commentary on books cited. Without that it’s pretty useless. Caught up in Stephen Hunter. Just finished a WW II submarine novel by a first-time novelist, Jon Gabriel. He actually is a vet of the nuclear sub service as a reactor engineer. Title is Sink the Rising Sun! I enjoyed it quite a bit. I decided to go with Rise and Kill First. I see with considerable annoyance that Amazon offers me the execrable Rashid Khalidi’s The Hundred Year War Against Palestine as a best seller related to this. Khalidi is an old and dear friend of—Barack Obama! Only we’re not allowed to know that. Happy New Year Am Yisrael Chai! _________________________ “Remember, remember the fifth of November!"

I just finished "Crashing Through - The Extraordinary True Story of the Man That Dared To See", by Robert Kurson. Kurson is best known for his book "Shadow Divers", this is totally different but really absorbing to read. It's an older book, 2008, and technology has moved on but the story is amazing. After reading some books I like to Google the subject and see what has happened, read this then Google!

Rise and Kill First turns out to be an outstanding book. The author was able to get thousands of interviews with former Israeli intelligence and Mossad people who wanted to tell their stories, despite strong official opposition by the Israeli government. One can argue we shouldn't know this, but it makes for a damned exciting page-turner of a history book. I'm listening to it on Audible, and the narration is first-class. I'm going to tackle the same author's book on Iran next. _________________________ “Remember, remember the fifth of November!"

Carrier Pilot by Norman Hanson. He flew Corsairs for the Royal Naval during WW2. Training seems to have been as lethal as combat. I had the Collected Works of G.K. Chesterton delivered yesterday. I've got my work cut out for me. ________________________________________________________ "Great danger lies in the notion that we can reason with evil." Doug Patton.

I didn’t care for the style of writing in this one. I thought that a much better book on the subject was Day Of Wrath by Forstchen. ________________________________________________________ "Great danger lies in the notion that we can reason with evil." Doug Patton.

I have never read a Tom Clancy novel so I'm starting with Without Remorse. I'm gonna vote for the funniest frog with the loudest croak on the highest log.
