From experience with each gun, I know what "excess" is and I apply just enough so that the rails and slide are lubed - not much excess comes out any more.

Yes, to continue to lube where half squirts out of the back of the gun is a waste.

Just have to do a few times and do initial lube so just a very small amount comes out after you rack the slide a few times.

Yes, there is potential for the excess lube to pick up dirt and grime. I think this may be more of an issue with a "tight" gun such as a SIG, and less maybe with a Glock.

Right, each of your kids is different and you need to know how to treat each one.

Excellent points - thanks

I can never understand any gun forum threads about a certain lube.

It just gets ridiculous.

People obsess over it as if there is some "perfect" lube out there that will somehow make your weapon easier to use, or more accurate or more...whatever.

Pick a quality lube, stick with it, ignore all the ridiculous arguments over it.

Me?

I use Ballistol and TW25 on all my weapons.

The real "secret" to lubrication is USE ENOUGH.

Many problems with lubrication is simply people under lube.

It is the source of many "problems" with gun cycling and function.

wow this thread was as popular as the one on the jeep forum and the motorcycle forum about motor oil . I do have to say after reading this I did take my new Sig STX apart and put TW25 grease on the rails .

I have read all of this thread and I have come to the conclusion that I will keep using TW25B and CLP. Thank you Flork for your info.

Okay, I read a lot of this post and could not find anything on what to lube the recoil spring. Is grease still the answer or an oil like MilTech or CLP? Is grease only used on the slide?
Thanks

Good question.

I use the TW25b grease on the recoil spring even on the .22 SIG conversion (it's not a tight fit at all).

The other gun recoil springs on my guns are a very tight fit, so that's why i use the grease instead of oil.

is anyone using ,or has used G96 gun treatment?
i've tried it on a couple of my sigs ,and like the results so far- a noticable sheen on all the metal parts and a perceived"smoothness"(placebo effect?)of the action.

Great thread. Enjoyed it thoroughly, although I/m the guy who starts oil threads on the motorcycle forums I frequent.

FWIW, my favorite so far is Redline assembly lube....left over from one of those motorcycle projects. Seems to last forever, not that I'm not totally anal about cleaning and relubing after every shoot. Talking range weapons here, not EDC, BTW.

Best to all. Shoot safely and accurately.

I forgot how awesome this thread was. Unfortunately though it looks like one of Flork's threads got auto-pruned.

https://sigforum.com/eve/forums...0601935/m/7260081812

Which he cross linked to this lube thread in this post: https://sigforum.com/eve/forums...460081812#9460081812

Any mods able to resurrect it and append it to the OP or something?

What lube are you using on a P220R (With the .22 conversion kit)? I use SG lite now, but worried about the SG being too thick for the .22.

I use the TW25B on the .22 conversion on the 226

Only problem with gun so far is after just under 12,000 rounds, the recoil spring gave it up.

Replaced and back to normal = no problems.

Cool, thanks for the feedback, thats exactly what I was thinking. Sustain the CLP and SG on the 220 when shooting .45, then quick wipe-off and lube the rails with TW25b when shooting the .22 kit. As soon as my .22 mags come in I'll give it a test and report back.

Wondering if anyone has tried using Rand CLP as a cleaner, in conjunction with post-cleaning use of grease on the slide rails?

Thanks.

I use CLP to clean, then follow with 91% alcohol, then TW25B grease on rails and slide.

Do notice the alcohol removes a little (very little) dirt/powder residue.

Dries very fast.

Thank you. I have been using 70% but I will upgrade to the 91%. Rand's product interests me; am trying to get away from the really toxic stuff.

The higher the percentage alcohol the better.

70% is 30% water - water not good unless you're a gunsmith and know how to use it without rusting parts.

91% is only 9% water - dries very fast.

I saw 99% alcohol, but decided against it. I have a feeling it would dry too fast.

91% works for me. Blow on the surface and it immediately drys.

I use SG Lite on my Sigs, and my P220 .22 upper works just fine. I haven't used it in cold weather, but I use CCI Mini Mags.

We think alike. I was a Ballistol/TW25B guy until I ran out of TW25B. Now I run Ballistol/Lubriplate SFL-0. SFL-0 is food grade, $1 per oz, and is the SAME as TW25B as far as I can tell. Did I mention it is $1 per oz, and you can lick your fingers?

YMMV.

I clean the recoil spring with CLP lightly, I've never greased it.

Oil the bendy bits, Grease the rubby bits, with wahtever makes you happy in both cases. Ignore the interwebs and their religious wars.
