One of my sons is shooting a P6. The other is working with an XDm. Both in 9mm. I'm thinking of joining the Glock program just to get one at the LEO price. Is it worth the effort for a G17?

Do you mean calling Ed's Public Safety, joining over the phone, and getting it shipped same day(if you call early enough), and being able to shoot it within 48 hours of purchasing.

If so, then your answer is absolutely; but I would opt for the G19 4th Gen or 3rd Gen RTF2.

I mean joining the GSSF or whatever it is called) and having the privilege of purchasing 1 firearm per yer at LEO prices. I live in the The Peoples Republik of Illinois, Comrade Vgex (sorry, my sarcasm got the better of me! Smile ) ...I have a FOID and an explosives license, and I wait 3 days for a handgun. I can purchase explosives whenever I want, but god forbid I decide to buy a 22 caliber pistol.

Sorry for the rant. I am teaching my kids (and several of the neighbor kids) about firearms/safety/etc) and I am in the process of transitioning my boys to centerfire pistols. My daughter wants to wait until it is warmer outside because "only a boy is dumb enough to freeze on purpose" Anyway, I think one of my sons would like the Glock, And well...I kinda want one just for fun... Smile

No worries. I don't know if Ed's can ship to Illinois, but I will say that if your state allows it, Ed's can fill out the paperwork and sign you up for GSSF over the phone and have your gun shipped to your FFL within 48 hours in many documented cases.

Thanks for the lead Vgex! I'm in a part they can ship to and have an FFL. The price reduction for signing up for the GSSF looks good enough to make purchasing a used piece almost...ALMOST silly.

Now to find a good deal on a Sig 220...

This really is one of the best forums on the net.

What Growler67 said.

Had a G17 and got rid of it. Really felt uncomfortable to me.

The key to enforcement is to punish the violator, not an inanimate object. The punishment of inanimate objects for the commission of a crime or carelessness is an affront to stupidity.

Hi Vgex,

If I may ask, where did you come across a OD frame?

Just picked it up off the sales corner on another forum. I was lucky enough to be browsing the want ads 15 min after it was posted. Just lucky. I do not believe there were more available.

I shot a Glock yesterday at the range with a bud and his wife. It was a very compact 9mm. I think it was a 26. His wife hated it because it didn't feel comfortable. She loved my P228 since there was enough of it to hold on to.

With the extended 10 rd. mag in the Glock 26 it fit my paw fine. I knocked down 6 plates in 7 shots with the Glock even in this small subcompact frame from 18 yds. Best with the P228 or P226 is about the same but they are full framed in comparison.

Are Glocks that much more accurate? I notice a bunch of folks shooting them in IDPA. If so, I'm considering a G17 for competitive matches. What say ye?

Damnit... Para may be right

I dropped in a black SS Wolff guide rod, Wolff recoil spring (factory weight), Wolff firing pin spring, Wolff trigger spring and firing pin safety spring. Went ahead and put on an extended slide stop lever, changed the trigger pin and the trigger housing pin out for the Titanium pins, and I think that's about it. Oh... had a spare butt plug and put a skull slide cover plate on it, and did the white Crayola Crayon trick. I was going to slap Trijicons on it, but I already went a little too nuts, so held off. The owner didn't recognize it.

I like the white lettering etc. I usually hate this kind of thing... but this is so well done it looks great!

I find it depends on the person shooting, what fits them, and how much they practice.

I'm an okay shot. By that I mean I can put my entire mag into a paper plate at 10 yards as fast as I can fire. However, I know guys who are good shots...really good...and they tell me they have never found a pistol (mechanical flaws aside) that was LESS accurate than them.

If you're going to compete, however, you might want to try the G34. It comes set up for competition with a few upgraded parts.

Thanks... will look at the 34 but likely for practical purposes (something I can conceal carry) will look at the 17 or 19. I'm going to pay closer attention at the next match to see how many Expert & Master level shooters are carrying them.

Then again I may just keep shooting my 17 yr old P226.... sweetness!

It doesn't have to be like that, y'know. Just own up and be free.

Hi there! Thank you very much! Smile I've done it on a few rifles and other Glock pistols in the past. If you decide you don't like it.. it comes right off.

Yeah, it's hard to believe someone would take that post seriously, but we've had some angry visitors to this thread. They want to come in here and tell us, so that there is no doubt, no, they will not buy a Glock and resent the accusation that they would even think of doing so!! Razz

I thought this thread could use a bump and I wanted to show off my new 23C slide for the OD frame.
