My P226 357 Sig loves the UNDERWOOD Extreme Penetrators which gives it the power it deserves! Great gun and cartridge that it needs for those special times when extra wallop is needed. KEEP IT or sell them to me cheap! Jeeps...guns...German Shepherds! | |||

No doubt that is the biggest factor as it is a very good performing round. I don't shoot mine often as I don't want to deplete my ammo supply and very hesitant on a new purchase at todays prices. | |||

My 357 sig practice ammo comes from Georgia Arms... in bulk it still aint. cheap but I don't even practice that much with it... just mostly 9mm. As for the OP's question... I'd say keep what you got... But you can't fault a 45 either... I did have a discussion with a guy that has worked in prisons for a number of years and he was telling me about a lot of inmates that like to show off their 9mm scares... he can't remember one showing a 45 scare though or I suspect a 357 sig one either. I have cans of Georgia Arms Canned heat in .357sig. I have 3 barrels for my P239 and P229. I will shoot it until I run out of the P357sig. It will take a couple of years I think I have a couple of thousand rounds left. | |||

Personally, I like the 357 SIG more than .40 S&W, although I don’t currently own a firearm in either caliber. I do have lots of .40 ammo left though. I personally see 357 SIG as a niche round, but think they will likely continue to make ammo for it, even if in small quantities. Whether or not to keep your 357 SIG is probably a matter of whether or not you are willing to own a niche caliber, with the limitations that come with it. Keep it. It's the best. Perfect balance of ballistics and recoil. Natural reliability due to necked-down design. It's expensive, but all good defensive ammo is, and Gold Dot .357 Sig isn't THAT much more than 9mm, especially relative to the advantages of the cartridge. For more affordable range time, get .40cal barrels. I think 9mm seems to be the winner of the cartridge war these days because of the popularity of micro nines--that class of pistol has undeniably conquered a huge chunk of indutry market, and it's defined by the 9mm cartridge. Also, while I think .357 Sig is an ideal option for concealed carry, law enforceament has trended to prioritizing capacity for good reason, so I'm not sure .357 Sig is best for most patrol officers. I wouldn't bet that .357 Sig is, by any means, gonna become so irrelevant that it isn't practical as a carry round. 10mm is expensive but seems to be "coming back," while 5.7 is even less practical/applicable for most situations, but for some reason is a thing right now. Am I 100% sure gun companies will start chambering in .357 Sig? No. But I know the round has excellent virtues, if not objectively superior benefits, when compared to other options, especially for medium to large frame EDC weapons. Happiness is a warm gun. | |||

I still have 3 guns chambered for 357 Sig and plenty of ammo both practice and Speer golddots. I have an HK P2000, HKP2000SK, and a P229ST. The Sig is my last 40S&W and I happen to have a 357 Sig barrel for it as well. The HKs are both 357 Sig marked. There were 2 reasons I liked 357SIG best, one was the performance of 9mm. The other was USSS used it, and they don't need to worry about anything other than effectiveness. USSS moved to 9mm and looking at the current hot 9mm, especially with Lehigh defense bullets, I'll take the extra capacity. | |||

Never give up on the .357 Sig! My Sigs all interchange between .357 Sig and .40 S&W quite handily, and will continue to do so until they become obsolete. The resurgence of the 10mm, that was written off several years ago gives me hope that the .357 Sig will be around for quite some time! | |||

Not a human body but you should see the backface deformation too on clay after being shot with 357sig into body armor. Not minority enough! | |||

I am sure that barrier penetration is better with the 357 SIG, however that is not what I consider as "when it counts". In a human body medical examiners can't tell the difference between 38 special through 45, and I'm not sure, but probably 10mm as well. | |||

I believe Hornady Critical Duty 9mm 135 grain did the best with the FBI barrier penetration test. DPR | |||

I have a couple of.357 Sigs. No intention of selling them. I will admit to having more guns in 9MM, .40 cal., & .38 special. However, I also have a couple of .45, a couple of .357 magnum, and a couple of .380. Not selling any of them nor do I intend to add any more calibers. However, you need to do what you feel is best for you! | |||

I received my duty gun (P226 in 357SIG) when I retired. I don’t shoot it anymore because I can’t find ammo. I do have 50 rnds of speer gold dots. But I’ve been thinking of converting it to 9mm. I have about a thousand rounds stashed away. I was going to buy another a thousand or so but as mentioned above it's been hard to find. That's ok, I have set aside the funds to buy another pile of 357 Sig. It will show back up. I like the round too much to dump it. BTW ammmo seek dot com shows plenty available at 45 cents to 52 cents per round, that's not a horrible price. It's not as cheap as 9mm but so what, buy what you want. . | |||
