Three of my favorites, P239, P229 and P226 are all chambered in 357Sig. I have several thousand rounds of ammo. I have a .40S&W barrel for them but I have zero interest in that also nearly dead caliber.

I love my P220R and P220C in .45acp plus my options in .22LR, 38 Spl and 357mag.

Maybe it's time to consolidate everything I have in 357Sig and move on. I don't need to but I also can't see buying additional ammo in 357Sig due to pricing and availability.

I hate that Sig abandoned their namesake round in favor of the wondernine. So many say the 9 is so much better now with all the advancements in bullet and powder technology. Those same people often fail to consider those same advancements are available for the 357Sig as well.

I also have zero interest in the 9mm so simply converting the three to also work with the 9 isn't in my future.

What do you think? Just stay put or consolidate (sell off) away from the 357Sig.

God Bless You and Your House,

Mark

Just hang onto it. What’s it going to hurt. Unless you want to get the money and put it into something else. I love the 357 Sig hence my handle here but, I have just stored it away and pull it out every once in a while(ammo, brass, reloading dies). Just too good of a cartridge(in my opinion) to abandon.

Keep it imo. I have several and keep them. For edc I like a smaller pistol, but if the state of the nation deteriorated further I wouldn’t mind a larger framed pistol personally. It has its place iMO.

Rarity usually breeds value if its quality imo.

I also am not sure why you want to sell.

357 is supposed to be 357 mag power but in an auto to both increase capacity and reduce felt recoil. That’s special.

I don’t know what else you would buy to fill the niche. 10mm? An even more rare cartridge?

Help us with some insights please.

Unless it really dies a public death, hang onto them & welcome to the underground fans of the 38 Super. (357Sig chapter)

The market, as you probably know, hasn't been very good for selling used 357SIGs. If nothing else, I'd go ahead and shoot through the ammo stash before deciding to sell them.

if you don't want to do Barsto Conversion barrels to 9mm and magazines then I'd put them on Gunbroker or somewhere and get rid of them.

I still think both 357SIG and .40 S&W have a ways to go before death.

If you use gun search engines/apps to find deals and frequent multiple gun shops for also in store deals.

I'm shooting .357 Sig at our local steel challenge match this weekend. Let the steel ring!

I've only one pistol chambered in 357 SIG: My P229S, which is purely a range toy.

I had planned to acquire a "standard" P229 in 357 SIG for carry, but, before I found one I became enamored of the 1911/2011 platforms. Sadly, those platforms are difficult to make run reliably with bottle-neck cartridges, so few have ever been made and they're hella spendy. So I think it unlikely I'll pursue anything further in 357 SIG. Too bad, because I think it a great round.

Yes, but modern versions of the 9 Para retain the advantages of the less powerful cartridge while still being an effective defense round. Advantages include less felt recoil making it more manageable to some shooters, supporting a higher magazine round count, having significantly lower cost, and accomodating the vast number of 9mm pistols that are already out there.

The 357SIG also enjoys the benefits of superior expansion characteristics, of course, but it is still basically a magnum round that is expensive and more challenging to shoot.

We've had this conversation afore. Wink

.357SIG was never a “mainstream” round so why let it bother you now? It’s not like you can’t buy ammo nor will you not be able to buy ammo 5 or 10 years from now. I mean hell you can buy .45GAP and they sold what, like 6 of those and at least one or two went to Gaston. Smile Razz.

Point is .357SIG has never been cheap or ubiquitous so if you like it stick with it. It’s still not cheap or ubiquitous so same as yesterday. Smile

I mean hell it’s not like you are deciding to give up on 7.65 Borchardt. Smile

Take care, shoot safe and enjoy your .357SIG’s.

I have been a HUGE fan of the 357SIG cartridge since I was first exposed to it back in the early 1990s when Texas DPS was evaluating it for their duty round

From a Highway Patrol standpoint it is still a better choice today than the 9MM Parabellum.

It has vastly superior performance when called upon to penetrate hard barriers like a car door or more frequently a windshield. Yes I have had the need to shoot through a windshield in order to save a life.

Apart from that it is a superbly accurate and flat shooting cartridge from any firearm.

For those of us that hand load, it is insignificantly more expensive to shoot than 9MM. Not to mention that hand loading opens up some performance pathways that are outside of the 124 grain @1450 FPS goal of the cartridge's original design.

ensigmatic mentions his P229 Sport. I have both the P229 Sport and the P229 Sport Stock.

These are amazing pistols from the SIG Mastershop in Germany, Great triggers and as accurate as a laser beam

The cartridge also makes a great SMG round. Chambered in the MP5 sub machine gun and rifle family of firearms it is just a hoot to shoot. Imagine being able to put 30 rounds of 357 Magnum performance style ammunition on target in just a tad over 2 seconds Eek

Sorry for the poor camera angle, I had not noticed the tripod had been moved. One day I will re-shoot this . . . Pun Intended

MP5/357 mag dump

Many, many very fine firearms have been offered in this chambering. I still keep a P239 and spare ammunition stashed away in my vehicle. I have a HK P2000SK for pocket carry and my various alloy and stell framed P229s for when I carry a full size pistol.

Unless you need the cash for other things, I can not see a logical reason to part with the three SIGs that you currently own chambered in this fine caliber. After all you already have the ammunition on hand

I was into the 357 Sig for twelve years. I feel your pain. Recent trip to the Sig Experience Center and they aren't carrying 357 Sig ammo anymore! If you like to shoot, this isn't viable anymore with availability and price of ammo.

FWIW, Starline still has .357Sig brass available to ship, while more popular mainstream cartridges languish in back order mode. If you reload it, now is the time to stock up on it.

Last year I got rid of my .40 and .357 SIG, ammo and pistols. Consolidated to 9 and .45. Had 3 pistols in .357 SIG and 1 in .40 and I don't miss them.

Doubt they'll ever be worth anything, not like they're collectable.

I never really understood the .357sig concept. Never got around to buying one.
I have some .40s and some 9mm and dies for both. I'll stick with what I have.
As long as I can reload for the .40 I plan on keeping it. The main reason I have 9mm is because it is so common, I get lots of free brass at the gun club.

Your guns, your choice. If you like the the .357sig just enjoy it.

I traded a member here, my 98mm P320C top end & mags for his 357Sig equivalent.

May have to look into picking up another 9mm (and a SC grip/mags) for a more cost efficient shooter.
Can't say I'll drop the 357Sig, but it definitely is getting less common on the shelves, locally, and even then it's JHP only.
Haven't seen FMJ 357Sig in a local shop in a while, when J've looked.

Well yea. It is or will be a dead caliber unless you are a reloader. If you reload then you will never run out of components, if you are a buyer then it is just going to get harder and more expensive. What is the point?

I don't know about you but once ammo hits a certain price point a range excursion starts becoming less fun. If you just want the caliber because you think it is just a better performer then have at it but limit your range trips.

I see no point in belaboring this though. It is dying and has little shot of coming back.

It was a tweak to a well established round (9mm). It is better than 9mm, but is, obviously, no enough of an improvement over the 9mm to lure people away from 9mm.

If you have rounds or are willing to pay more for the ammo and like it, stick with it. (Or take up reloading.)

It is probably on the way to being a mostly unused branch of the 9mm family, like .38 Super.

Personally, I still have a few 357sig guns and plenty of ammo.

At work, we called it quits. We haven't been able to get ammo from our vendors since 2019. We've had to go to local places or online just to get ammo so we switched away from 357sig this year. And...both our vendors are telling me 12-24 months to get 9mm ammo in. We can't win.

I ordered 30k rounds from Winchester in October. Nothing has arrived. I just ordered another 20k rounds from Federal this month. Let's see who gets here first so I can resupply my personal stash which I used to get the department switched over.
