Just because something is legal to do doesn't mean it is the smart thing to do.

Too bad they don't offer in .40 S&W, I might have been motivated to buy one.
I know, I know, it was a 9mm only when it first came out and that is what they are celebrating.

Why would they do .40? It's a homage to the original 226

You know you could make a case for the .40 because it's the 40th anniversary. Razz

Looked at one at my LGS today. Brought back some good memories of the one I bought back in 85, but stupidly sold later on. I just couldn’t get past the price tag and non-original sights. I’ll just have to make do with my P226 SCT.

Nice, but I’ll stick with my Mastershop P226 X5 Competition. I was damned glad that it was on the California roster.

I still see my 226 as a workhorse dependable and trusted friend not a show pretty thing with that price tag myself also.

My first SIG was a P226 which I bought NIB at the end of of 1988, actually on New Year's Eve. SN was 360XXX. Still have the sales receipt (!) but stupidly sold the pistol a few years later....

Seeing this 40th Anniversary Edition makes me wish for SIG to reintroduce the P225 and P232.

Nostalgia comes at a price, I guess.

Hmm, let's see how we can justify this...er, adjusting for inflation from the mid 1980s...carry the one...divide by that...well, whaddayaknow...IT'S A DEAL! Big Grin

I think they probably wanted to sell more than 5.

Good news is, if you really want a P226 in .40, there are plenty of used police trades out there for CHEAP!

So $1200 in 2024, is the equivalent of $395 in 1984.

I bought my first P226 in 1989 for $600.

I have never seen any in my area and I am not inclined to buy a used gun unless I can inspect it prior to handing over money.

Good idea. In a DFW Police supply store there ar moe than a few used Dallas PD trade in Sig P226's in .357 Sig. More than a few look to have seen better days, though most of it is probably holster ware and exposure to the elements.

About 20 years ago I worked at a range in Dallas. We got in a bunch of used Israeli Surplus P228's. They were 250 each, but some of them looked like they'd been run over by a tank. Still they would have been a good restoration project with The Sig Armorer, but of course I didn't buy one.

I’m thinking about picking one up. Are they the same dimensions wise? Can I use original 226 holsters?

I see what you did there... Big Grin

For my part, I'm so glad that they released the 40th anniversary edition as it inspired me to purchase a new 226 Elite, P225A1 and P225A1 stainless. Great guns that I had no idea how much I missed owning until they were replaced.

Save the whales. Redeem them for valuable prizes...
