On a side note, assuming the NFA stuff will eventually go away for everyone, I sure hope FFL's will drop the transfer fee's down to their normal for a 4473. This $100 a pop sucks.

I charge $50 for NFA transfers. Assuming we will still need an SOT to do NFA stuff, that's a $500 annual fee, whereas an FFL is $200 every three years.

After paying $375 in NFA transfer fees for three cans on the last batch, I found a home-based guy local to me who charges $25 for NFA transfers. Never again with the big shop.

All approved 8/22/2026. Done for now.

Ordered thru Silencer Shop on 8/13/2026
They submitted Form 4 as a trust on 8/25/2026
I received approval on 8/27/2026 and picked it up today.

Ordered another from guns.com on 8/18/2026.
Never heard anything from them about a Form 4.
It was delivered to the FFL today and I called them.
They will submit the Form 4 individual for me thru the Silencer Shop.

Submitted 9pm on 8/25, approved 5:30am today.

This has been a little odd. The Silencer Shop website says submitted 8/22 which is the day I did all the paperwork and signed everything. ATF email says submitted 8/31 and approved today 8/31. Delay may have been the wait on the dealer to do their part.

That Docusign you get from Silencer Shop isn’t the actual submission. It’s an internal silencer shop document that looks like a form 4, but is really only a dummy form for you to verify everything looks good and sign giving them permission to do stuff on your behalf. It doesn’t actually get submitted to the ATF (which is when the actual clock starts) until it gets certified by you manually, or automatically if you have your ATF info loaded into Silencer Shop for them to auto certify. The actual form isn’t ready to go in until the dealer has the silencer in hand and in his inventory, and fills out his part of the Form 4. The date on the email from the ATF that says it’s submitted/in process is the date it actually went in. Anything previous was just other parts of the SS process stream.

I guess I should have been more clear. I also have the in process email from the ATF dated 8/22. The approval email I got today says submission date was 8/31. I hadn’t paid attention to previous emails for the suppressors I bought last year. They all are that way, dated the date of the email.. I need to pay better attention. Still, 9 days is better than the 13 months for an sbr in 2011.

Sparrow 22 individual submitted 8/31/26 approved 9/2/2026

Now trying to figure out if I should SBR my Stribog or just wait and see what happens in the next couple of months.
I'd like to put a folding or collapsible stock on it.

Serious question..

Likely not. While being a “customer” isn’t clearly defined, it’s generally thought that you have to get the NFA item in question from them, not that you ever bought anything from them.
