There has always been a lot speculation that Brittney Griner is really a man. In fact, when I first saw her (can't remember now the circumstances, but I immediately recognized her name when this story popped up) I had legitimately thought she was a he and just a transgender person.

Who the hell knows? Still sounds and looks like a man to me. I suppose the Russians will sort all that out.

She is a 6’7” genetic freak, not a dude.

Watch her play basketball, she is a clumsy larger than life female, not a former dude.

But this woman is way too big for her britches, a decade in Siberia will knock the hate off her.

"She" is the husband:

WNBA star Brittney Griner's wife has posted to Instagram about the Phoenix Mercury player's detention in Russia.

Griner was detained after Russian officials said they found vape cartridges containing oil derived from cannabis in her luggage at the Sheremetyevo airport near Moscow.

The offense could carry up to 10 years in prison.

Griner's wife Cherelle Griner posted an image of her and her wife to Instagram on Saturday, thanking supporters and asking for privacy as the family navigates returning Brittney Grier home.

I had never heard of this person. But when Sheila Jackson-Lee gets involved in an issue, I automatically take the opposite side. Same goes for Gloria Allred.

Can you imagine if SJL's demands are met and Putin and quashes the legal case, just to make SJL even more (in)famous and show the world how stupid our politicians are? I wouldn't put it past him, and it would embarrass us.

Griner has a history of bad behavior.

Former Nimitz and Baylor basketball star Brittney Griner was arrested Wednesday on allegations of assault by the Maricopa County (Ariz.) Sheriff's Office.

The Arizona Republic, citing jail records, reported that Griner, who plays for the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury, was arrested on suspicion of assault and disorderly conduct. Griner's fiancee Glory Johnson also was arrested on the same allegations, the newspaper reported.

TMZ reported that police were called to Griner's home around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday after receiving a call about a domestic dispute between the women and that officers observed "minor physical injuries" on both. Citing police, TMZ reported Griner had several cuts and a bite wound while Johnson was bleeding from the lip.

Citing the police report, TMZ reported there were several people at the couple's home when they began arguing and the fight became physical. According to the report, Griner admitted throwing a dog bowl at the wall, with the fighting commencing thereafter.

Griner, 24, helped the Mercury win the WNBA championship last year, earning All-WNBA First Team honors in addition to being the league's Defensive Player of the Year.

Johnson, 24, played for the WNBA's Tulsa Shock last season. She and Griner got engaged in August, with their wedding reportedly slated for next month.

The WNBA and the players' respective teams said they were looking into the situation and did not comment further.

What’s even better, is that Soviet jails are some of the worst on the planet!! Couldn’t happen to a better type of person.

I know people say it’s not nice to enjoy others, suffering but the evil part of me sometimes rises to the surface.

No, she is not a hostage. She broke the law and was caught at the airport.

No different than on National Geo's Locked Up Abroad.

Can't wait for the episode to be released.

I'm no lawyer, but one constant theme on that show is that the US government will contact your relatives, etc., but they CANNOT help you "go free." Apparently the State Department is somewhat limited in what they are allowed to do. At least normally.

I remember our little talks before we went into a port.

Don't screw up, if you do, you will miss ships movement and when you finally get out of whatever jail, you will have another trial/court martial waiting.

If I am not mistaken isn’t Russia VERY VERY VERY anti-gay?????

So, the wife seems to really be throwing fuel on the fire.

I read an article from The Insider (not going to link it as I don’t want to give that garbage any clicks) that blamed her entire situation on The WNBA not paying women well. If they did she would not have to go to Russia to make ends meet.
No, the problem is her drug usage! And the way the Russians describe it compared to the US media seems like she was trafficking or at least brought herself enough to cover the entire season.
I guess the WNBA does not drug test?

She makes $229K a year in her WNBA season and $1 million in the Russian season. Not too bad either way you slice it considering no one really wants to watch women play basketball.
