Well, to be fair: Neither did McCain. His being shot down and captured aside, and regardless of which ones arguably may or may not have been his fault: Apparently giving McCain an airplane was, for the airplane, kind of like sending a red-shirted guy off in the transporter "America is at that awkward stage. Um wake up about 50% of Americans do not vote now. I always laugh when they say "landslide" victory and how they have a mandate because they got 53% of 51% of the people that actually voted. Meaning about 25% of the people actually check their box for whatever reason. Many gave up along time ago that's why the media has to make things trendy to get some sheep to think its cools to vote for clown X or that they must go vote against clown Z IMO. You will never be able to stop that until the sheep wake up, if ever. ------------------------------ Knowing is half the battle! "When governments fear the people, there is liberty. Don't look at this as the random rantings of an idiot. This is a coldly, professionally calculated strategy. Trump is working under the philosophy that the only bad publicity is no publicity. And, to the extent it can, it's working for him. He's the only candidate in the Republican field anyone is talking about, and IIRC, he's now polling #1. Of course he's looking like an idiot. But I think he figures he'll deals with that later.

Yeah, Trump isn't stupid. I saw something about Trump saying that Rick Perry should have to take an IQ test before getting in the debates. Something about closing the border. Hilarious, and possibly coming close to the truth. He's planting some bad vibes in people's minds.

Political Cynic |
Trump may not be a pilot, but McCain demonstrated that he wasn't all that great either How many did he crash and wreck? He was only important because of who his dad was, if not for that he would have been the same as every other POW - just one of the hundreds and nothing special He served his country well, right until he decided to be a politician. He sold his soul and gave up his moral standing. He's nothing more than a pandering political hack - and for that he gets my utmost contempt. He's a disgusting piece of shit who has done far more damage to this country than any outside enemy could have ever hoped to do. [B] Against ALL enemies, foreign and DOMESTIC

Perhaps Trump is smart enough to know that he wouldn't be a good pilot, and delegates that responsibility to somebody better capable of that particular task. Sounds presidential. Then again, some people prefer to put those known to crash planes back at the controls, and continue to expect a different outcome the next time around.

Go read the account of his flying activities on wikipedia under military career. Typical flight times for someone like that is probably more than 2,000 hours. I knew a fellow who spent ~7 years with McCain in Hanoi, a squadron CO. You don't get there, or last long, if you aren't a pretty decent pilot. Luckily, I have enough willpower to control the driving ambition that rages within me. When you had the votes, we did things your way. Now, we have the votes and you will be doing things our way. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible." - Justice Janice Rogers Brown

Winston Churchill was present at the dawn of Aviation and took lessons for a time. He was eventually persuaded to give it up, luckily. He had two traits of character that made him unsuitable as a pilot, an unshakable determination to carry on whatever he started, and completely oblivious to physical danger. Those two will get you killed. Luckily, I have enough willpower to control the driving ambition that rages within me. When you had the votes, we did things your way. A Strangely Persuasive Monster |
No. Trump is not a pilot. And neither are you. And neither of you served in the military. And neither of you went to Vietnam or spent five and a half years as a POW. And neither of you were offered early release and turned it down because it would be a breach of honor. You want to trash his politics? Go right ahead. I've done it many times myself. But unless you flew with him or spent time as a pow with him, you are woefully fucking unqualified to comment on his service in either of those arenas. Staring back from the abyss |
No offense, but I don't find hilarious at all. In fact, I find it childish and unbecoming of someone actively seeking the presidency. Making fun of how someone looks or calling them stupid is something more fitting for a grade school playground. The sooner this ass goes away the better as he is doing damage to the conservative cause and will continue to do so.

There were a lot of jobs in the Navy for an officer too well connected to get rid of but too dangerous to keep flying off carriers, and many an important father who would be grateful to someone who recognized that, if true, and did something. McCain wasn't exactly stinking up the joint. That business on Forestal was impressive, cool under pressure. Luckily, I have enough willpower to control the driving ambition that rages within me. Oh stewardess, I speak jive. |
Ok, fair enough. Swain is correct in reminding us to keep the topics/eras/jobs separate. McCain was a good man, in Vietnam, having done things worthy of respect - back then. But he sucks schweaty balls as a politician, and is no conservative by any meaningful standard. He has left behind a life of honor and willfully chosen to be a poster child of the EstablIshment Republicans, a professional politician, and one no longer earning respect.

And from history it appears McCain was no ace either. The war hero crap has worn through with me. He's traded on that credential like Barry the Wonder Putz trades on the race card. I have exactly zero respect for either of them at this point. As to Trump, so long as he continues to make Republican candidate lives miserable/painful, I'm all for him being in the race. ----------------------------- Guns are awesome because they shoot solid lead freedom. I can understand your frustrations with his politics, many of which I share, but do not dump on his military service which was honorable, if not heroic, adequate if not superlative. He did what he was expected to do. Luckily, I have enough willpower to control the driving ambition that rages within me. When you had the votes, we did things your way. JALLEN, I see two distinctly different men in McCain. One who, as noted above, served his country as far as I can tell in an honorable manner. The second man exhibits exactly zero honor, integrity, or principles on an ongoing basis. So which is the 'real' John McCain? I don't know, but I do know that personally I want him to go away. ----------------------------- Guns are awesome because they shoot solid lead freedom. Every man should have several guns. This, I'm not a fan of his politics either, but how many of you would do as well if shot down, wounded, captured and tortured for years ? easy to talk a good game from behind a computer screen. The very few of you that have gone though SERE school got a taste, McCain got the 5 course meal. No problem with that but disagreeing with his politics isn't carte blanc to rip what for all purposes was honorable, if not distinguished, service. Even if your prayers are answered and he "goes away" his military service remains what it is. It has no bearing on his politics. I doubt he believes he acts with "zero honor, integrity or principles on an ongoing basis" and many of his constituents apparently do not either. You weren't in the military, I gather.
