Harry Truman, the last decent Democrat.

Maybe the last decent President. I like Ike, and everyone loves Reagan, but Truman inherited the whirlwind and managed it. Hey, I love a guy that sips bourbon and has the stones to launch nukes. And he may have been the Trump of '45

The "Trump of '45?"

I just finished my 3rd reading of McCullough's biography, and several other bios in the past, a thorough tour and visit to Independence, MO and the Truman Library and watched a 2 disc DVD about Truman and I can't imagine what you could be thinking here.

Truman was a good president. But he was no saint. He wouldn't have risen to power in Kansas city if it wasn't for the mob and the kkk helping him.

Did you vote and how many of you voted for Obama in his first election?

Most of the membership participating in the political threads at that time were not only against Barry, but pretty much predicted the shit he would end up doing for the next 8 years. We knew it. We absolutely knew he was a socialist tool at the time, when he was trying to pass himself off as a middle of the road Democrat.

Voted.....for Obama? Are you asking seriously or are you a troll? Granted, John McCain wasn't a bargain but.......vote for Obama?

Maybe you're serious. Anything is possible these days.

He's a noob. Probably a serious question.

Reports in 2008 were that Obummer won by a landslide and it was a mandate depending upon who you listened to. Many voters, I believe, gave him their votes for a "change" in leadership.

If many SF members here did vote for him in '08 and now have come to the realization how bad he is as President, then an assumption can be made that supports a Trump Presidency, quite possibly a landslide and mandate by the voters.

I am 100% behind a Trump Presidency. Never was a doubt in my mind about the man. I am hoping that the voters of today realize the importance of this election and hope they do not squander their votes for HRC which would only be a continuance of Obama's failed leadership.

There were also people saying an obama presidency would be GOOD for America, as that would show everybody how bad he was so they could vote in a "real" conservative in 2012. As we have seen, this didnt work out at all, and all the posters who advocated this wont admit it.....

At least few here will now openly admit that they support a hag presidency.

He was the product of the Democratic machine in KC, but everything I have read suggests he told the KKK to go to hell, mocked them as being Jewish, because only a Jew could sell a $2 nightshirt for $16. Smile

His diary entries I have seen indicate he did tolerate some graft in awarding contracts in order to save money on something else, gave some jobs to some as requested when he might not have otherwise.

I doubt anyone holding office in our history will ever be considered for sainthood, certainly not any Democrats, nor is that required or expected.

My take on Truman is that he was a hard working, serious and decent man, rather than the high society partiers often found in the Senate of the day.

He was the last President not a college graduate, but according to Dean Acheson, he was a very well educated man, which Acheson attributed to his life long vast reading habit.

Luckily, I have enough willpower to control the driving ambition that rages within me.

When you had the votes, we did things your way. Now, we have the votes and you will be doing things our way. This lesson in political reality from Lyndon B. Johnson

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible." - Justice Janice Rogers Brown

Saw this earlier today. This is the last chance, gentlemen. So many variables have come together at this moment in history. It's the most important vote of your lifetime and one we cannot lose. There truly is no tomorrow for America if we can't get Trump into the White House.

I read McCullough twice myself, although not recently, and should have gone into more depth. Harry was blunt and a bit coarse, it seems to me. Bandied about "niggers" and "Kikes" freely, although that may have accepted in his day. And he did stage the biggest upset ever, I believe.
That's all I meant: brash and politically incorrect before it was a term. And kept on being Harry into a second, but first elected, term.
I hope I'm reasonably accurate, here.

I turned on the news this afternoon and caught his speech in Greensboro for about fifteen minutes before I had to change the channel. All he said during that fifteen minutes was not policy statements, what he would do as President, or why we should vote for him. It was fifteen minutes of "lying liars lying again", "Look at her...she wouldn't be my choice", etc....

Do you really think this is helping him? Really?

Insulting the looks of Hillary Clinton and the women who are accusing him? Yeah...that's the way to sway voters to your side. Roll Eyes

Meanwhile, he's damn near ten points behind and sinking.

Pass that doobie my way. It'll make the next four years more palatable.

I voted for McCain in the primary and general.
I voted for Gingrich in the primary and Romney in the General.
I voted for Trump in the Primary and will vote for Trump in the general.

I had no problem with Obama being black, but I did not trust his message, and the more I heard him during the running up to 2008, I was sick as I watched more than 200 years be swept away as a flood, but believe that if we can get someone in the WH that will unfetter "We the People..." that we can rebuild this country.

Otherwise, I believe that we will implode and be overrun as a lot of Europe has, and the fight for day to day will be much misery.

But, I will never give up or in. I am a real asshole when it comes to standing firm.

I have very few up close friends, because I am as I am.

I have no trouble with it, but pity the fools who try and move me.

Now, let's get back to electing Trump.
