JALLEN, I agree that Trump connects very well when he speaks off the cuff, but he is usually short on substance when he is in that mode, at least when I have heard him.
Tonight, he delivered vision and substance, in my opinion, and he delivered it with great passion. I was blown away, and I tend to be very jaded about political speeches.

He's is much better speaking on his own. This was just talking louder for the most part, and slower, like I talk to my in laws when they would rather risk their uncertain English than my imaginative French.

He hit all the red meat issues ok, but he has been a lot better on the trail winging it.

For months, I've fretted that his speaking style was a cross between Shecki Green and Allen King, not at all like John Kennedy and say, Ronald Reagan. Despite that, it was natural and like those two comedians, attractive to a great many. Last night, he was less so, to me.

Maybe it will work out OK. Not many of my preferences are reflected in popular culture.
Trump's speaking style isn't eloquent, but then again, he isn't a polished and pc filtered politician either. If he were, I do not believe he'd be the nominee right now. Trump is a creature of this particular moment in political history. People are furious about sellout crony politics and corruption in both parties.

Trump is about the polar opposite of the Mitch McConnell wing of the Republican party. He's also reaching folks who would normally be tuned into reality tv instead of participating in intellectual political discourse.

That is where we are as a society, and Trump is the man of the moment.

I disagree about the "shouting". He wasn't shouting, as far as I'm concerned. He was being very passionate, and quite effective. I know a lot of people don't like his style, but it suits me just fine.

We have had enough of style, enough of great oration with hollow words, enough of the patronizing lies. A street fight is never won on style points.

Ok, so what exactly do you want at this point? The man has never run for political office.

Even if there is no obligation the American public sees debates as part of the election process. If Hillary refuses to debate Trump he will slay her in the media.

Yeah, she really has to debate him. And Para is of course right. Hillary is the one who's terrified of Donald, not the other way around.

^^^ That's right.
That's why there will be at least two.
She may be able to get out of one for some "unforeseen" reason.

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

Travelling, so I missed the live speech last night. I've read extended excerpts, and I understand the enthusiasm expressed here. It was truly a great speech.

I've read that the samurai's most dangerous opponent was the complete novice with a sword. Because the samurai had no idea what the novice might do. That will be Hillary facing Trump. She is a master at political maneuvering, deceit, spin. She would toy with someone like Mittens. But Trump might just up and throw the damn blade into her chest. There's just no telling what might fly out of his mouth, and she will be on double dose of tranquilizers when she has to face him in a debate.

I've seen all the MSM reviews of what a "dark" and "frightening" speech this was. They have no idea. They don't live in our world. The French aristocracy, feasting on lavish banquets every night, heard about the peasant complains of hunger and they were just... perplexed. Mystified. No bread? Why, there were mountains of bread!

With the sheer number of sheep in this country " El Presidente de Floppy hands " would have still got elected. A mindbender to say the least.

As much as Hillary doesn't want to debate Trump, the optics of that plus what he'll say about her being afraid to face him is really really bad for her and I think she'll do one or two debates.

Look for the rhetoric to be something like this from the Left and their media allies: "Look at this evil MAN, beating up on a poor defenseless grandmother! Why, that awful MAN needs to leave her alone!"

Clinton is the one worried about the upcoming debates, and she should be worried.

Bitch won't even hold press conferences any longer, and she's then going to find herself in the presence of a brash billionaire whose stock in trade is extemporaneous remarks? Trump doesn't need to worry, because the truth is on his side. Clinton should be shaking in her boots, because Trump is apt to say anything, and she damn well knows it. Now, just how do you "prepare" for something like that?

Para, what question or questions, if you could, would you ask HRC aka: "the hag" at one of the debates?

Wouldn't it be nice if someone say for instance Gucifer 2.0 handed Trump the silver bullet just before the debates. Perhaps a email from Chris Stevens directly to Hillary requesting more security in Benghazi and her reply denying it.
Candy Crowley moment times ten!

Ah, but such are fantasies. The reality is Trump needs to win by at least 5% or 6% anything closer than that and the fix is in. Hell the fix is probably in regardless. Frown
