Donald Trump's tweet announcing his running mate was not even moments old when the Democrats' knives came out to attack Indiana Gov. Mike Pence as "extreme" and "divisive" -- and unload their opposition research.

Almost immediately after Trump named Pence, Hillary Clinton’s campaign blasted out an email Friday calling him “the most extreme VP pick in a generation.”

Clinton’s campaign outlined its talking points against the governor, pointing specifically to his record on LGBT and abortion rights, as well as his free-market economic policies.

“By picking Mike Pence as his running mate, Donald Trump has doubled down on some of his most disturbing beliefs by choosing an incredibly divisive and unpopular running mate known for supporting discriminatory politics and failed economic policies that favor millionaires and corporations over working families,” John Podesta, chairman of Hillary for America, said in a statement.

http://www.foxnews.com/politic...ter-trump-tweet.html

Pence had to file papers to run for Governor by noon today. This sort of forced the issue.

lots of Democrats and antiTrump people enjoying the fact that Reps are trying to raise $ to pay for the convention

Roll the clock back to 2012. How did the Dems do it ?

http://www.washingtontimes.com...lotte-convention-co/

The Democratic National Committee has no plans to repay Duke Energy for an unprecedented $10 million line of credit it guaranteed to help the Democratic convention's local host committee put on President Obama’s three-day nominating convention in Charlotte, N.C., last September.

A Duke company official said the company was claiming the money as a business expense for tax purposes, meaning shareholders will foot $6 million of the cost

The company didn’t limit its convention financial support to the loan guarantee. It also donated $4.1 million to a separate fund formed to accept corporate money for parties outside the convention hall and $1.5 million in in-kind contributions to the host committee for office space, furniture and other expenses.

nice of Duke Energy wasn't it?

rest of the story:

Duke, the third-largest coal-burning utility in the country

Although the Obama administration, through the Environmental Protection Agency, has cracked down on emissions from coal-fired plants, Duke is among at least a dozen firms the administration has exempted so it can pursue energy projects paid for by stimulus dollars

Duke received $200 million in federal stimulus money for “smart-grid” improvements in 2009, and at least two of the company’s power plants — one in North Carolina and another in Indiana — got hundreds of millions of dollars in “advanced coal” tax credits from the Department of Energy, as well as federal and local incentives.

I hope Podesta keeps running the same old Clinton playbook against Trump. It's a brilliant strategy for time when the main drivers of voter sentiment are disgust and anger at politics as usual.

George Soros has funded so many of the hate groups in our country.

http://www.washingtontimes.com...eorge-soros-zombies/

Civil rights group Color of Change — which Mr. Soros gave $500,000 to in his Foundation’s latest tax return — collected more than 100,000 signatures on a petition to demand Coca-Cola and other companies withdraw their support from the convention. The petition that featured a Coke bottle with the label, “Share a Coke with the KKK.”

Color of Change was joined by UltraViolet, another Soros-backed women’s rights organization, in the petition, an effort to amplify their collective voice against the GOP.

And it worked.

Coca-Cola caved to the pressure and decided to give only $75,000 to the convention, compared to the about $660,000 it gave in 2012. Other corporate sponsors were scared off.

To demonstrate how extreme Color of Change’s political ideology is, it’s latest campaign is to defund America’s police forces that “don’t defend black lives.”

Brave New Films, which received $250,000 from Mr. Soros‘ foundation, tried to make waves for Republicans by creating misinformation about their convention through social media.

Brave New Films is a social media “quick-strike capability” company that uses media, films, volunteers and internet video campaigns to “challenge mainstream media with the truth, and motivates people to take action on social issues nationwide,” according to its website.

In a Facebook posting, Brave New Films bragged about driving a fake internet campaign — a petition to allow for open carry at the convention — into the mainstream media.

Deceit and lies — that’s what these groups are up to — and they’re using the mainstream media as their pawns.

MoveOn.org is also planning activity. They proudly took responsibility for shutting down Mr. Trump’s rally in Chicago in March, and fundraised off their success.

MoveOn is organizing a “National Doorstep Convention” that runs parallel to the GOP’s convention where members plan on going door-to-door in Ohio and other states to urge voters to “reject the politics of hate sown by Donald Trump and the GOP.”

The group’s been quiet about their plans for actual protests at the convention, but we can bet they’ll be involved. On Wednesday MoveOn urged its members in an email to sign the “Movement for Black Lives Pledge,” being circulated by Black Lives Matter activists, calling Mr. Trump a “hatemonger.”

Last weekend, the Center for Popular Democracy (CPD), a progressive organization that was given $900,000 by Mr. Soros’s Foundation, held a People’s Convention in Pittsburgh, to organize social justice movements ahead of the political conventions both in Cleveland and Philadelphia.

The conference included Black Lives Matter organizers, those campaigning for immigration reform, the Fight for $15, LGBTQ rights, and environmental justice activists. It’s purpose was to give them the tools to communicate and engage with one-another’s campaigns to amplify their collective voice.

The ACLU — which Mr. Soros‘ gave $1.7 million to in his latest filings — won a lawsuit on behalf of anti-Trump protesters to both expand the area of their protests and allow people to make speeches inside the event zone in locations other than the free speech zone designated by the city.

Professional protesters like CodePink have filed for demonstration permits, along with lesser known anti-Trump groups. CodePink helped stir the chaos at the California Republican convention in April.

Equally pathetic

http://www.washingtontimes.com...h-embarrassing-ohio/

Donald Trump’s campaign chairman on Monday said that Ohio Gov. John Kasich, who is scheduled to be in Cleveland during the Republican National Convention but won’t necessarily attend the convention itself, is “embarrassing” the state with his actions.

Mr. Kasich’s team put out a list of events the governor plans to attend in and around Cleveland this week that includes events with the Illinois, Michigan, Pennsylvania and New Hampshire delegations. But the former 2016 GOP presidential contender has still refused to endorse Mr. Trump.

Latino leaders switch gears, announce plans to back Trump

By Seth McLaughlin - The Washington Times - Monday, July 18, 2016

CLEVELAND — Latino leaders dramatically switched gears Monday by announcing their plans to endorse Donald Trump in the wake of the recent shootings in the United States and terrorist attacks overseas — giving the presumptive GOP presidential nominee a needed boost among minority voters ahead of his scheduled nomination this week here at the Republican National Convention.

Fourteen conservative Hispanic leaders signed a letter saying they are better off throwing their muscle behind Mr. Trump largely because Hillary Clinton cannot be trusted, including on the issue of immigration.

“We have, therefore, decided not only to vote for Donald Trump, but to actively campaign for his candidacy,” the endorsement letter reads. “Too much is at stake for America for us to remain neutral on the sidelines.”

The signatories — including Alfonso Aguilar, head of the Latino Partnership for Conservative Principles and Massey Villareal, former president of the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce — said that the Mrs. Clinton is not interested in fixing the broken immigration system, and said Mr. Trump has taken a step in the right direction by softening his immigration stance.

“We realize that much of the uproar over Trump within the Latino community has been over his comments and proposals on immigration,” the letter read. “Democrats have certainly used it to pander to our community. But the reality is that Clinton cannot be trusted on immigration.

“[Mr. Trump] said recently that he doesn’t want to deport every single undocumented immigrant, and that he only called for the removal of those with criminal records,” the letter said.

Mr. Trump has staked out a hard line on immigration, and has polled poorly among Hispanic voters, which were key to President Obama’s victory over Mitt Romney in 2012.

The group said Mrs. Clinton must be stopped.

“The magnitude and frequency of the recent episodes of violence and terror, as well as the devastation statements from FBI Director James Comey regarding Hillary’s Clinton’s gross negligence in the handling of her official communications as Secretary of State, have led us to reconsider our position,” the letter read. “We see now that we cannot remain silent as our great Republic, which Abraham Lincoln called ‘the last best hope of earth,’ appear to be coming apart at the seems.”

The letter in full:

In the past weeks and months, many Americans have vividly seen and experienced the tough challenges facing the nation, including terrorist threats and attacks at home, unprecedented divisiveness and racial tension among our citizens, and a slow-growing economy that cannot create good paying jobs. Furthermore, their confidence in our leadership has eroded as they watch politicians use their positions for personal benefit, putting our national security at risk in the process, with the belief that they are above the law.

Like most, these events have given us pause and led us to see in a new light how decisive the next election will be for the future of our country.

During the primary, we took an active stance opposing the candidacy of Donald Trump. We were offended by some of his statements and views on immigration. We said in no uncertain terms that if he became the GOP nominee, we would not support him, campaign for him, or vote for him.

However, the magnitude and the frequency of the recent episodes of violence and terror, as well as the devastating statements from FBI Director James Comey regarding Hillary Clinton’s gross negligence in the handling of her official communications as Secretary of State, have led us to reconsider our position. We see now that we cannot remain silent as our great Republic, which Abraham Lincoln called "the last best hope of earth”, appears to be coming apart at the seams.

We’re convinced that if we allow Hillary Clinton to become president, the liberal policies of the last eight years of big government and social reengineering, which have led to the societal and economic malaise in which we now find ourselves, will be continued and perpetuated.

Furthermore, Clinton’s shady use of an unsecured private server to manage official communications, which included top secret and classified material, and continued lies to cover it up, perhaps even committing perjury before a House of Representatives panel, demonstrate that she does not have the character and ethical standards to be president.

We have, therefore, decided not only to vote for Donald Trump, but to actively campaign for his candidacy. Too much is at stake for America for us to remain neutral on the sidelines.

We are not enamored with Donald Trump’s bombastic rhetoric and personality. But at least we know that Donald Trump won’t divide the country and fuel the flames of racial confrontation by accusing the police and the entire criminal justice system of being racist. We also know that Trump can better address the terrorist threat we face because, contrary to Clinton, he is willing to acknowledge and address its root cause: radical Islamic fundamentalism. And we also know that Trump will reverse the current overregulation and excessive taxation of business which stifles economic growth and prevents the creation of well paid jobs.

We realize that much of the uproar over Trump within the Latino community has been over his comments and proposals on immigration. Democrats have certainly used it to pander to our community. But the reality is that Clinton cannot be trusted on immigration. She now portrays herself as a champion of immigrant rights, yet back in 2007 she voted for a poison pill amendment to kill immigration reform. Just two years ago, she called for the expedited removal of unaccompanied minors coming from Central America.

Let’s face it: Clinton doesn’t want a solution to immigration. Instead, she wants an issue to use for political gain to carry the favor of Latino voters. Like Obama, who promised immigration reform the first year of his term and then didn’t deliver, if elected, Clinton will not do anything to work in a bipartisan way to pass legislation to fix our dysfunctional immigration system.

Ironically, even on immigration, we may fare better with Trump. At the end of the day, he is practical and a deal-maker. He said recently that he doesn’t want to deport every single undocumented immigrant, and that he only called for the removal of those with criminal records.

Our country and our community cannot afford to have someone like Hillary Clinton in the White House at this crucial time in our history. We can, however, reverse the course of decline that America has been placed on by President Obama, a course which Clinton would undoubtedly follow.

We can fix America. We can turn things around. But the way to do that — the only way — is to vote for Donald Trump in November.

Well, the anti-Trump idiots were finally defeated, once and for all.

http://www.foxnews.com/politic...rupt-convention.html

Republican officials hastily adopted a set of much-contested convention rules Monday, setting off an unruly protest from anti-Donald Trump delegates on the first day of the Republican National Convention in Cleveland.

Those anti-Trump forces had hoped to challenge the rules that bind delegates to vote for the presumptive GOP nominee, as part of a last-ditch bid to at least disrupt his march to the nomination. But the convention's presiding officer, Arkansas GOP Rep. Steve Womack, abruptly put the rules to a vote -- twice -- and declared them approved by voice.

This prompted loud objections from Trump opponents, who shouted “roll call vote" in a dramatic showdown that effectively ended the Never Trump movement, but also underscored the deep divisions that remain in the party even as the Trump campaign claims the GOP has united.

Those delegates were hoping for a state-by-state vote on the rules that bind delegates to back Trump.

“I have no idea what’s going on right now,” Utah Sen. Mike Lee said Monday, who helped lead the failed uprising. “This is surreal.”

Following the votes, almost all of the Colorado and half of Iowa delegations walked out. Former Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli and members of his state's delegation were screaming "shame" amid the vote; he later told CNN the RNC "violated its rules."

The Trump camp was said to be "livid" at the revived push.

"This is a big headache," one official told Fox News.

Anti-Trump delegates tried to force a vote after collecting signatures calling for one. They claimed to have more than enough support, including a majority of the delegates in nine states, to technically allow them to file a report challenging the convention rules.

But Womack said from the podium that delegates from three states withdrew their signatures. He then declared that the effort had fallen short.

Womack took the unusual step of calling for two separate voice votes. He declared the pro-Trump delegates victorious both times despite the loud chorus of boos from the crowd.

The anti-Trump group wanted to change a rule that requires delegates to vote for the candidate they were committed to by the primaries and caucuses. Under current party rules, Trump’s nomination is essentially secured since he’s accumulated more than the 1,237 delegates required to win.

While Trump wasn't in danger of losing the delegates he needs to get nominated, the stamina of the anti-Trump movement is an embarrassing setback for the presumptive nominee.

Paul Manafort, Trump’s campaign manager, downplayed the events Monday morning during a press briefing with reporters.

“We don’t expect anything to come out of the rules committee,” Manafort said.

At a separate event he said, “It’s not a movement. It’s some rogue, recalcitrant delegates.”

Other delegates had threatened to walk out if the rules weren't changed.

"We won't sit around and coronate a king," said Colorado delegate Kendal Unruh, who like many insurgents backed vanquished presidential contender Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas.

The convention's rules committee earlier had defeated the dissidents seeking to make the changes late last week, thanks to an alliance between the Trump campaign and RNC leaders on that panel. For a short time, it seemed to sideline the movement.

Manafort has said there is no longer a viable "stop Trump" movement, only some "malcontents" who don't represent the broader Republican Party.

Despite the tension, Manafort insists that the GOP is not showing signs of strain but instead is coming together in a show of party unity.

“Ninety-four to 95 percent have come together,” Manafort said.

Still, high profile Republicans have decided to skip the convention – as well as withhold their endorsement of the New York real estate mogul.

Former Presidents George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush said they would not attend the Cleveland convention – which seemed fine with Manafort.

“They are part of the past,” Manafort said. “We think that the unification is happening and we hope that when the Bush family decides to participate again in the political process, that they will join us. We would welcome them handily. We’ve reached out to them but healing takes time.”

Manafort called Ohio Gov. John Kasich’s decision not to speak at the event “a difficult situation.”

“It’s a difficult situation when the home state governor doesn’t participate in the convention process … We invited him. We wanted him to participate, he chose not to. We think that's the wrong decision. There were no conditions put on him.”

I for one have never been so embarrassed to have to say I am from Iowa and am being represented by this bunch of asshats. I understand supporting your candidate but when your chosen one has been vanquished grow a spine and support the victor for the overall good of the party/country. These people should be banned from ever representing the voters in this state again. Your guy lost, get over it. And yes I was a Bobby Jindal supporter, he withdrew, I am now for Trump.
