Trump and Cruz Delegates in Tennessee To Form Grassroots Alliance, Pledge Support for Anti-Establishment Candidate

NASHVILLE, Tennessee— Many of the 49 delegates in Tennessee who are pledged to either Donald Trump or Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) will reportedly meet this month to seal a grassroots alliance in which they pledge their votes during any contested convention only to Trump or Cruz.

“My concern is that whether you are a Cruz delegate or a Trump delegate the establishment wants to nominate somebody like John Kasich who has no mathematical chance or moral authority to become the nominee because he has received so few votes in the primaries,” former State Rep. Joe Carr, an at-large Cruz delegate, tells Breitbart News. He adds:

As a result of this flagrant attempt at hijacking the process, I have contacted several of the Tennessee Trump and Cruz delegates in an effort to band together with the goal of making sure that the duly elected delegates have their voices heard according to current RNC Convention Rules. If the establishment persists in their recklessness attempt to steal the nomination from either Donald Trump or Senator Cruz, the Republican Party may not recover for a generation.

Others are also speaking out. “I am concerned about the future of our country and I believe a brokered convention will only mean that Hillary will win,” State Senator Mae Beavers (R-Mt. Juliet), an at-large Trump delegate, tells Breitbart News. “It’s time we all honor our commitment to the process and to the people who elected us. I will do whatever I can to work with all delegates to make sure that is done,” Beavers adds.

Carr and former Nashville talk radio host Steve Gill, also a Cruz delegate, intend to meet Trump delegate Beavers today to discuss the details of a bigger meeting next week to which all Trump and Cruz delegates elected in the March 1 Tennessee primary will be invited.

They tell Breitbart News they plan on pledging that their votes at the Republican National Convention will be for one of the two anti-establishment candidates, Trump or Cruz, on every ballot cast after their legal obligation to vote for the candidate for whom they pledged their commitment. The two outsider candidates have won more than 77 percent of all the Republican convention delegates selected in the state primaries and caucuses to date.

This is outstanding! Especially if it spreads to other states' delegates. If this actually takes hold, Trump's and Cruz's supporters will be more likely to come out to vote if their first pick doesn't get the nomination.

Putting Kasich on the ticket would be a pretty solid move by The Donald. You can't deny that it makes a lot of sense.

I deny that it makes any sense at all. Just to get Ohio? What makes anyone think Trump would need anyone's help in Ohio during a General Election against the old Communist fart or Hillary.

Thanks for pointing out the obvious. All I am trying to do is see who you guys think he will pick and who you would like him to pick. If you don't want to participate, that's fine too.

I have no idea who he is going to pick. I just hope it's someone that is like him in that they too will say to the political world "We're done with your shit".

No Kasich, no Rubio, no Bush, etc. I wouldn't mind if he picked Fiorina or someone like her.

I have mixed feelings about the VP choice. While I agree with you to a point, I also think Trump would benefit by having someone with legislative experience as VP, since the VP presides over the Senate. Trump will have to navigate through the congressional waters to get anything he wants to do put into law.

Though I'm not a huge fan, this might actually be a good spot for Rand Paul to land. Certainly Cruz would be good, but I'm not sure Cruz would take it.

I wouldn't want any of the current "good" guys in congress to end up as VP. They'd more useful to stay in congress I believe.

I understand your point and agree but, I think what has gotten Trump to this point is the 'anti-politics' and he needs to be careful in who he picks for VP so as not to upset that.

Kasich as VP? Wasn't he all for the assault weapons ban with Bill and Hillary?

It does make sense if Trump can control Kasich once he is in the VP slot AND Trump could also make a back room deal with Cruz to placate him by promising to nominate Ted for the supreme court.

Stating the obvious, the VP pick probably almost entirely depends on which voting block Trump thinks he needs to target. He's operated counter to conventional political wisdom time and again and so far been very successful at it.
