I love this quote from the Donald about Kelly-

“I refuse to call Megyn Kelly a bimbo, because that would not be politically correct. Instead I will only call her a lightweight reporter!”

I also fail to see how Trumps decision to abstain was a mistake- no crash of poll numbers- if anything, they've increased. Amazing he managed to win a debate he didn't even bother to attend Big Grin

I do not think Trump is making a mistake by bailing out of the debate. Megyn Kelly is laying for him, and not in the way one would normally think about a bimbo.

When Fox said this:

"We learned from a secret back channel that the Ayatollah and Putin both intend to treat Donald Trump unfairly when they meet with him if he becomes president — a nefarious source tells us that Trump has his own secret plan to replace the Cabinet with his Twitter followers to see if he should even go to those meetings."

After hearing that Trump wasn't going to Megyn's debate, Fox gave up all appearances of impartiality. Trump can rightly point to Fox's immature retort, and state that Fox is biased against him, so of course he wouldn't go to their debate.

At the same time, he gets to show everyone that hates Fox that he's not afraid to figuratively punch Fox in the taint.

I think Trump wins both ways. Look for poll #s to go up, not down.

Megan's attack on Trump in that first debate was just a "feather in the cap" kind of thing-- her attempt to gain, for example, a video moment that would be replayed in end-of-the-year retrospectives of the magnificence of Princess Megyn's show. She would crush Trump, humiliate him, in front of the biggest audience in Fox's history, reduce him to a stammering, muttering, mumbling heap of bad hair and sweaty red flesh.

Instead, when it was all over, viewers deluged Megyn with scorn, insults and mockery. She! The Princess!

And now Trump has advanced his seriousness. He looks good in refusing to appear in Princess Megyn's Fart Circus. Instead he is raising money for veterans. Focusing on the real problems that beset this country, and his determination to win the nomination and the presidency.

Go Trump! Smile

Trump should bankroll a town hall meeting, invite Cruz, Rubio, heck Christy as well to a one on one sit down moderated meeting to discuss important items,

This would be broadcast on Cable and Sat and the innerwebs, he could buy an hour easy, leave the last place 1 % ers to debate it out on fox.

Nobody would turn in to see MEgan drill Jeb...

I have been hoping for this to happen as soon as I heard the speculation that he might not attend.

Even if it's just him with everyday normal people talking not preaching or reciting talking points. Have it broadcast on the internet, or even offer it up to any cable/broadcast channel that would like to air it, just for a half hour. Let the world see Trump for what he is, good or bad.

I would tune in for that and not the debate.

Please enlighten us about Rubio's "principled views". I mean the ones that he hasn't flip-flopped all over the place on.

Touche', I did say that that statement is arguable, but my main point may pertain more to Cruz. Donald Trump has also been all over the map with his viewpoints, certainly borne out of convenience or whatever sensibility runs through his showman's brain. I think the main principle is fealty to the Trump brand, nothing else.

I will vote for the Republican nominee, but I am hoping for Ted Cruz.

Trump could do a PPV event the same day and probably draw more people, give much of the money to a charity like Wounded Warriors.

Just how petty and ego driven are these "journalists"? Trump will appear on O'Reilly's show tonight, despite Ailes' having ordered Hannity to cancel an interview with Trump last night. Supposedly, O'Reilly is furious that Kelly, his protege, has surpassed him in the ratings. *yawn*

With all the problems confronting our nation, we are supposed to give a shit about the careers of these narcissists?

I didn't watch the show, but apparently Megyn had Michael Moore on to offer his view of Trump. And Moore began by praising Megyn and offering her his sympathy and support.

This whole thing reminds me of our dog. When we first got him, we needed to get him in the kennel in the morning. We would fill up a Kong with peanut butter and toss it in. He would scamper after it, enter the kennel and then turn around with this look on his face "Damn!! They did it again!!"

We've been the dog for a long time now. Now the media is the dog and The Donald is tossing the Kong.

We're all just enjoying the show for a bit.

Absolutely. That comment by FOX was far beneath the professional demeanor FOX would like us to think they exhibit. They gave Trump everything he needed with that childishness to prove his opinion is true.

And consider how many independents who aren't exactly FOX fans are going to respond to Trump's rebuke of FOX News. Yep, my bet is the Donald will actually see another jump upward in his polling numbers based on this BS.

Early prediction on O'Reilly's commentary tonight. "Donald, this is a big mistake for you, and you should absolutely attend the debate. Voters will turn away from you if you don't." You'll have to watch to see if I'm right, because I swore off that blowhard O'Reilly long ago.

I really do not think his poll numbers will take a hit by not doing this debate, if fact I wouldn't be surprised if he gets a boost from this.

Trump Campaign Statement on FOX News Debate

January 26th, 2016 - As someone who wrote one of the best-selling business books of all time, The Art of the Deal, who has built an incredible company, including some of the most valuable and iconic assets in the world, and as someone who has a personal net worth of many billions of dollars, Mr. Trump knows a bad deal when he sees one. FOX News is making tens of millions of dollars on debates, and setting ratings records (the highest in history), where as in previous years they were low-rated afterthoughts.

Unlike the very stupid, highly incompetent people running our country into the ground, Mr. Trump knows when to walk away. Roger Ailes and FOX News think they can toy with him, but Mr. Trump doesn’t play games. There have already been six debates, and according to all online debate polls including Drudge, Slate, Time Magazine, and many others, Mr. Trump has won all of them, in particular the last one. Whereas he has always been a job creator and not a debater, he nevertheless truly enjoys the debating process - and it has been very good for him, both in polls and popularity.

He will not be participating in the FOX News debate and will instead host an event in Iowa to raise money for the Veterans and Wounded Warriors, who have been treated so horribly by our all talk, no action politicians. Like running for office as an extremely successful person, this takes guts and it is the kind of mentality our country needs in order to Make America Great Again.

If Trump got elected, we'd have the opportunity to listen to all the leftist fools say the things we've been saying about Obama for years, and I would absolutely love it. Again, what does it matter any more? It's not as if there is one single shred of dignity left to the office of POTUS. Really, what does it matter? The morons of this nation have seen to that, so fuck 'em.

I go back to the question asked on page 1 of this thread: Really, what does it matter?
It's not as if there is one single shred of dignity left to the office of POTUS.

I think it matters.
I think there is another candidate in this race who could restore the dignity to the office of POTUS. I also think there is another candidate in this race who has more consistently and more articulately represented my views. I think we should elect someone who is qualified and who will not shit all over the Constitution.

Having said that... I'm not a Trump hater. You don't have to hate one to prefer another.

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

Rubio is the snake in the grass, at this point. I am very suspicious of any convention machinations that may lead to a Rubio nomination contrary to popular vote/sentiment.

The GOP is a private organization, who make their own rules and have their own interests that don't necessarily mirror that of people who vote Republican or who might.

What concerns me most is some scenario where a decision to nominate Rubio (the Jeb du jour) is both legal and viewed as improper, leading to nasty Party infighting.

At the time when we need some semblance of unity the most... which is ironic/rich given Trump's divisiveness and all that, but come D-day it's not the time for that crap...

Ted is good enough, Donald too, but Marco is a wolf in sheep's clothing, IMO.

Christie and the rest are all but irrelevant at this point, though Christie may still be dangerous, too.

Like if Rubio picks one of them as a running mate... and I could see he and Christie... marketing themselves as "reasonable Republicans" or some such nonsense, and both are much more the "company man" type, Left leaning RINOs to their core.
