Why does an inauguration even need entertainment? Have a military marching band and /or some bagpipes and that's it. This isn't the Superbowl.

Actually would be interesting to note how this has become the norm. From Washington to Lincoln to FDR, etc... when did the actual entertainment industry become an expected part of the inauguration event? I wouldn't consider inaugural ball & formal dances would be considered in the same category as popular performers. Somehow, things have strayed from having Kate Smith sing "God Bless America".

TRUMP IS ALREADY DESTROYING ARIZONA'S ECONOMY!!

TRUMP could destroy the local AZ economies. Illegal immigrants are boycotting Arizona by the thousands and moving elsewhere, showing their outrage with Donald Trump's proposed law of sending illegal immigrants back to their native countries.

In the small town of Guadalupe, AZ, south of Phoenix, Manuel Renaldo is one of those who are vowing to punish Arizona by leaving. As he loaded his stolen car with his taxpayer-furnished belongings and family of ten, Renaldo told this reporter through an interpreter: "It's a matter of principle; I refuse to be supported by a state that treats me like a criminal!"

The effects of the exodus are already being felt by some Arizona
retailers, who are reporting dwindling thefts and sales of beer,
tequila, spray paint, and ammunition. Also hit hard are the state
hospitals, which have reported a dramatic decline in births and
emergency room visits of non-revenue patients! Rape, assault,
murder and gang violence have dropped considerably.

State welfare agencies are preparing to lay off staffs that distribute
food stamps and unemployment benefits valued at several hundred
million dollars. Tattoo parlors are in an absolute state of panic!

Renaldo told a reporter, through an interpreter, that he and his
family are moving to Canada with its new Liberal government under
Justin Trudeau, where new higher taxes and hardworking people will better support him and his family with dignity!

Kinda brings a tear to your eye, doesn't it?

My country, 'tis of thee,
Sweet land of liberty,
Of thee I sing;
Land where my fathers died,
Land of the pilgrims' pride,
From ev'ry mountainside
Let freedom ring!

My native country, thee,
Land of the noble free,
Thy name I love;
I love thy rocks and rills,
Thy woods and templed hills;
My heart with rapture thrills,
Like that above.

Let music swell the breeze,
And ring from all the trees
Sweet freedom's song;
Let mortal tongues awake;
Let all that breathe partake;
Let rocks their silence break,
The sound prolong.

Our fathers' God to Thee,
Author of liberty,
To Thee we sing.
Long may our land be bright,
With freedom's holy light,
Protect us by Thy might,
Great God our King.

Well it IS a parade. Some marching bands and such would be nice.

I marched in President Reagan's first inauguration in 1981 as a cadet at the Coast Guard Academy. It was a reward for our company (Foxtrot) being the Honor Company the previous semester. If I remember correctly the second place company went as well. We spent one night at Annapolis, got bused in for the parade and then bused back to New London. I carried an M1 with the barrel filled with lead, which was inspected by the Secret Service before we were allowed to form up.

I didn't think too much of it at the time, other than it was a chance to get some extra liberty and a cool trip, but now I realize how big a deal it really was. It was a great experience.

Bagpipes, yes. Deaf people need to hear music.

How about Texas A&M drill team? Didn't they do the rifle twirling thing in the beginning of the movie "A Few Good Men?" THAT would be a show worth watching.

Tell hollywood and the 'entertainment industry' to shove off. If they want to act like spoiled petulant children, then treat them as such. Simply deny them access; and by so doing, it will deny them their relevance.

Amen, darthfuster! And again Amen!

That is probably the finest patriotic song ever written. I love our National Anthem, of course, but "My Country, 'Tis of Thee" is much more stirring. I get teary just reading the words.

So I finally decided to sign up for the Twitterz tubes today. Since our President-elect likes to send things out that way, I figured I should get the direct feed, especially as The Day approaches.

I found something interesting. I followed Donald J Trump and then Twitter suggested that I follow Barack Obama. OK, I can see the logic there but no thanks. But then I noticed - the Barack Obama Twitter account is maintained by some hack support group. But there is another account - @POTUS which is the "official" account.

So on Jan 20th this account will still be @POTUS but will now be Donald J Trump, correct? Is this the first Twitter Transition of Power?

from para's link about Lasner at Hunter College:

"His website says that this book “examines the emergence and growth of co-owned multifamily housing – the co-op and condominium apartment, as well as the townhouse complex — as an alternative to single-family suburbia in the twentieth century.”"

I grew up in an inner city townhouse and we always strived to someday have a single family home in the suburbs.

Putin says Democrats sore losers, praises Trump

By Vladimir Soldatkin and Andrew Osborn | MOSCOW

Vladimir Putin praised U.S. President-elect Donald Trump on Friday, saying he had his finger on the pulse of U.S. society, and launched a scathing attack on the Democrats, saying they had forgotten the meaning of their own name and were sore losers. Speaking at his annual news conference in Moscow, Russia's president said that only Russia had believed that Trump would become the next president of the United States, but that did not mean the Democrats had the right to blame him for their defeat.

"The current administration and the leadership of the Democratic Party are trying to blame all their failures on external factors," Putin told reporters. "(We are talking about) a party which has clearly forgotten the original meaning of its own name," Putin said, accusing the Democrats of "shamelessly" abusing their status as the ruling party to try to influence public opinion.

"Outstanding figures in American history from the ranks of the Democratic Party would likely be turning in their graves. Roosevelt certainly would be," he said.

The White House and U.S. intelligence officials have accused Russia of trying to interfere with the U.S. election by hacking Democratic Party accounts. Information from those hacks was leaked online, causing political problems for Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton. Putin dismissed suggestions Moscow had helped Trump to victory in any way however. "It's not like that," he said. "All of this (the accusations) speaks of the current administration's systemic problems."

The question of who hacked the U.S. Democratic party was not important anyway, said Putin, but what the hacks revealed - that public opinion in the United States was being manipulated - was. "They (the Democrats) are losing on all fronts and looking elsewhere for things to blame. In my view this, how shall I say it, degrades their own dignity. You have to know how to lose with dignity."

Putin, who spoke positively of Trump before his election win, said that Moscow had believed in his victory. "Trump understood the mood of the people and kept going until the end, when nobody believed in him," Putin said, adding with a smile. "Except for you and me."

Putin addressed Trump's comments about the need to boost the U.S. nuclear arsenal, saying they were perfectly normal. Trump's comments, made in a tweet on Thursday, alarmed non-proliferation experts who said that a boost to the U.S. arsenal could fuel global tensions.

But Putin said he was surprised by the fuss Trump's tweet had caused and how it had been linked to his own statements about Russia's plans to modernize its own nuclear arsenal. Putin said on Thursday Russia's military was "stronger than any potential aggressor". He made clear on Friday he did not regard the United States as a potential aggressor.

"I was a bit surprised by the statements from some representatives of the current U.S. administration who for some reason started to prove that the U.S. military was the most powerful in the world," said Putin.

"Nobody is arguing with that."
