There is a line of pitbulls around the block hoping Trump will pick them for this once-EVER chance to go down in history as the AG that brought justice back to the Department of Justice. Never fear! Cool

It ain't over until it's over. I'm sure Gaetz was in consultation w/ DJT and the transition team on this. And nothing prevents Gaetz becoming a recess appointment for the AG spot at a later date anyway.

I'm not surprised he pulled out.

The Dems would have turned this into a shit show that never ends with them pulling a DiFi and bringing in their version of Christine Ford.

Gaetz wasn't going to give them the satisfaction or be a distraction for Trump.

Even for Trump, he is way too controversial.I don’t for a second believe he was ever the real candidate, I’ve thought from the beginning that he was a red herring. Will be interesting to see who their planned “acceptable“ choice is.

It's an interesting decision. President Trump could appoint Gaetz as AG temporarily for up to 210 days, and a second time for an additional 210 days, if I understand correctly.

This is a sudden 180 degree turn, and it makes me wonder if something has changed, as in new information on Gaetz, or just the realization that the visceral dislike of MG by other Republicans wasn't going to be overcome by rational purpose.

DJT is anything but a quitter, so this is a head scratcher to me.

I mean he could just get sworn into his old house seat he just resigned from... He did just win his reelection bid in his house district 66%-34%

I think Cruz would be just as determined and, with his intellect, even more effective. His personal reputation is above reproach as far as I know.

I’m thinking this was a way to identify which senators were truly for Trump, and which ones were/are still RINOs.

So instead of the Dems and RINOs having Gaetz as AG, he can now be appointed as Senator to fill Rubio’s unexpired term for 2 years in the Senate.

Thought the same, he's ostracized himself from many on both sides. Like was said he could have been Trumps decoy to just flush out problem R people in the house and senate.

Gaetz is probably done for a while in politics, DeSantis isn't a fan so I don't see him appointing Gaetz to anything.

It's likely he resigned from the House to close the hearing on him, and even though nothing was found by the DOJ, the house committee doesn't really care about the legal impropriety just that they can find a way to get him out, same for the appointment, he was going to be a distraction and slow down appointments.

The only way he got in was to have recess appointments, and it's likely that his appointment was one of the major issues and why the Senate didn't recess for Trump...

Maybe even payback for his last act of getting the former speaker tossed.

So, Para, when Trump is sworn in will you create a Year V on this thread, or start a new one, such as Trump’s Second Term: Year I ?
We know how you like to minimize threads.
