Now we can watch it 24 hours a day on multiple cable news channels, tons of online articles, social media, and even here...

This, exactly.
This TV shit 24/7 is adding to the problem.

Hopefully in the next week or so they will have a test out and can start releasing people from quarantine to go back to work that test positive for antibodies. And the rest of the population can continue quarantine until they are safe.

IHME is updating its model as new data comes in

Some of the peak dates for resources changed

Virginia for example moved even further out to 28 May 2020

Para had commented - how can they predict to the exact day ?

The process is a bit like NYT in elections. They forecast national election results based on detailed polling and historical voting patterns to make a national prediction. Then as actual votes come in, they gradually replace predictions w actuals. As time goes on their prediction gets tighter and tighter.

Remember Mich Gov Whitmer threatening doctors who prescribed hydroxychloroquine ?

Whitmer has now sent a ltr to the federal govt asking for hydroxyxchloroquine to help coronavirus patients.

It was all a "miscommunication".

side note - I haven't seen anything out of the NY study that started 24 Mar 2020.

This thread is like the last place I check for important updates because you nancies can’t just be adults.

The rest of the forum is like a gold standard for no-bullshit. I mean wow.

Oh hey, also, thanks for the video link about the lung damage. Pretty informative.

So what about the remedies. They have been prescribed for the better part of a week give or take. What is the "real" data on those who are taking.

Another question about that. Were those that died in the last week on the medication? Assuming those in the most critical situation would be given the medication?

As an aside. I have a family member who is a nurse and at their hospital the nursing staff is unhappy because their hours are cut back because of no patients (19 or otherwise) for them to care for. Go figure.

This is the first time I’ve visited this thread. The numbers in Charlotte NC are about to drastically go up. My ER group staffs all the providers for 10 ER’s in the area. We just got the green light to test anyone who we see fit. No more exclusionary criteria. Up to this point we were still using travel, fever, cough, shortness of breath + immunocompromise and/or lung disease as criteria for testing. That criteria was useless in my opinion. The first confirmed positive patient I admitted about 2 weeks ago checked in the ER with abdominal pain and diarrhea.

The hospital system I work at has the in house capabilities to return COVID results in 8 hours which is much better than the competition which is still 5-6 days. Things are sure to get interesting.

Given that environmental conditions often trigger asthma-like reactions to my lungs, I'll do a bit of reading now and then on the subject. Found this:

In about 50 A.C.E., Pliny the Elder found links between pollen and breathing difficulties and was one of the first to recommend a predecessor of epinephrine. https://www.medicalnewstoday.c...26#asthma-is-ancient

And with regards to the quinine, the gin and tonic was born.

According to a video from the History Channel, during the 1889 Russian Flu Pandemic (130 years ago), there were widespread rumors that quinine was an effective treatment or preventative. They didn't mention whether it helped or not. But I would infer that it did not.

Everything old is new again.

So you're saying we should all switch over to Gin & Tonic?

PA State liquor stores (they have a monopoly here) have been closed for (seems like) weeks. We can get beer and wine at the grocery store. But if ever there were a time that called for something more creative

Surely the stimulus bill will pay for this. If I get a prescription, maybe they'll let me in the government liquor dispensary (PA State liquor store). Razz

For those that didn’t click link this is an April Fools “prank” from tatortodd.

IMHO flooding this thread with those today would be the equivalent of just stacking in a bunch of Rick Rolled links. I’m sure they’ll be all over web today for our amusement. Could we please not do that?
