"The National Rifle Association’s longtime chief financial officer (Woody Phillips, CFO from 1992 to 2018) told a New York jury he was paid $30,000 a month after his retirement for consulting services to the gun-rights group, which the state alleges had squandered millions of dollars in donated cash."

Sounds like hush money, to me.

Guilty or not, I won’t donate money to an organization that wastes it like Ive seen the NRA do.

I always see people who do not want to give to the NRA for one reason or another. The anti gunners love this. So I think if you do not want to give to the NRA, that is fine. But I do think you should be supporting some other pro gun organization. I like the Second Amendment Foundation. But any other state or local outfit is fine.

Besides the verdict, I'm curious what the judge will decide to do with other items. Will he break up the entire board? Set a new member limit? Sooo many choices...

Assign a court-appointed overseer to look into finances. And breaking up the BOD would be a good first start - get rid of all the WLP sycophants.

Some excellent candidates for the NRA Board of Directors elections coming up

I’m often asked by other fellow NRA members which Board of Directors are good to vote for.

VCDL as an organization takes no formal position. But answering for myself, I know two candidates personally and trust them both to keep a watchful eye out:

Jeff Knox and Dennis Fusaro. Both Jeff and Dennis are running with two people they trust: Phil Journey and Rocky Marshall.

If you vote for all of them or just a few of them, I suggest not voting for anyone else. That concentrates your votes.
If you are an NRA member and you are getting one of the four magazines, you probably received your 2024 board of directors ballot. You are instructed to vote for no more than 25 names; 26 of the 34 names are incumbents, i.e.., Wayne's people. Maybe some will change now that he's gone and maybe some will continue his ways. The quote above is from the president of Virginia Citizens Defense League and while NOT an endorsement, here is some new blood for the BOD if you are interested. Don't vote for 25 names; it dilutes your vote (see the link).

The four names in the quote above are numbers 11, 12, 17 and 29 on my ballot; they may be numbered differently on your ballot(s).

Bullet Voting

Good!

I'm a NRA Patron life member so it might surprise people to learn that I think the outcome of this trial is a good thing. WWayne is a corrupt piece of shit and it's good that he now has to repay the NRA $4.3 million in damages. The NRA board of directors (BOD) should have fired Wayne in 2019 when its own president, Col Oliver North, raised these same accusations against Wayne.

Speaking of NRA BOD, they need to trim their egregiously large 76 member BOD to 9 or less directors as a 76 member BOD rarely comes to alignment to give direction to the NRA executives. Numerous studies have shown that BOD totaling 10 and above are ineffective.

I want the NRA to be the 800 lb gorilla of gun rights not some DC beltway swamp for corrupt executives.

tatortodd, I agree.

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

All I've got in the mail from the NRA recently is the advert for the Dallas convention in May. I'll take any advice on who to vote for.
