Even in its current form, I find the NRA to be a useful stalking horse for mainstream media to rage at while more productive organizations (SAF) fight the good fight.

It's a crying shame that this should be so, and with LaPierre gone, I hope the organization reforms.

I think there is a role for all of them. We definitely need pit bulls that will take cases to court and not give an inch. OTOH: Like it or not, the political climate has changed in America. We also need a presence on Capitol Hill that politicians aren't afraid to be associated with. It can seem outwardly "reasonable" while selectively supporting candidates that are solid. Since the NRA has abandoned its pit bull in the courtroom role, perhaps it can find footing as a lobbying group.

Board has to go as well. Culture has to change in that organization.

Imagine what it can accomplish if NRA spent the money given to these crooks to the actual crooks in Congress.

Honestly, while I still have reservations about the leadership of the NRA, I’m a man of my word and will do something as of January 31. Whether it’s upgrading to life membership or sending $100 or something, I will begin supporting the organization again. I also think that if enough people make a contribution the 1st day that Wayne is gone it will send a message that even the tone deaf Wayne sycophants won’t be able to ignore.

I want to see the NRA be more engaged with lobbying across the board and not just the country club RINO crowd. The other organizations, while stronger in court actions, just haven’t had the lobbying clout that we need to keep up our fight on multiple fronts. The test for me is if the NRA will fight to push back existing gun laws, weaken the GCA and NFA, etc. I want them to talk about machine guns as if they’re just another gun and not some sort of weapon of ass destruction as the media and many RINOs speak about them. It’s time to get offensive and not just defensive. I want to see a push towards requiring the Eddie the Eagle program or something equivalent in schools. I want more promotion of guns and gun culture and the NRA is uniquely situated to accomplish that. I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt without Wayne, and start being more vocal while donating more money. But if they don’t follow the path that we know they must, then I will be happy to stop support in the future. For now let’s send a show that the money will come in without Wayne and his policies.

For several years now the only reason I've kept my NRA membership is because (a) the club I belonged to required NRA membership as a condition of acceptance, and (b) most of the matches I shot required NRA membership in order to enter them. Well, since I escaped from Oregon last year I don't belong to that club anymore. And as I get older I find myself less motivated to compete. The matches I do still enter are more laid back and generally don't require NRA membership - you aren't eligible for most of the formal awards, but I was never really in that category anyway. Wink

Bottom line is, my current membership expires in a few months, and I'll wait and see what the NRA does before I decide whether to continue it.

I quit sponsoring the NRA when they booted Neal Knox out. He could have prevented all they errors that have followed his dismissal!

Not one more penny until the corrupt leadership is gone. That better? Wayne, while at the core of the issue, isn't the only problem. The board is saturated with his enablers and cronies.

Same things happened at the United Way years ago.

Senior execs of a non-profit wanting the lifestyles of senior execs of FOR PROFIT PUBLICLY HELD companies. I'm not sure how their compensation should be determined because they don't earn profits and don't provide a return to shareholders. But if WLP did anything illegal or in violation of tax law then he needs to suffer the full consequences.

The NRA was notoriously absent during the 2020 elections and I'm sure that affected the outcome of many contests. And that's because they were spending all their money on legal defense due to WLP's shenanigans.

BUT, the goal of the prosecution is not to punish the guilty to save the organization by helping it recover lost funds and restructure, they want to destroy the NRA completely. Even if WLP is guilty, the case is lawfare and would have been brought forward no matter who was in charge or what they might or might not have done in order to tie the NRA up with legal costs to take them out of the lobbying game and neutralize them. And so far, they have succeeded in that.

Meanwhile the SAF is KILLING IT in court.

These are my feelings as well. The current board allowed WL to abuse and mis use the NRA funds that we turn over to support the NRA.

Hopefully drastic changes will be made and not just more of the same. If not then I will not support the NRA in the future.

This whole thing is a take-away lesson; one cannot control a voluntary organization with dictatorial systems and practices.

I stopped paying them back in the late 90's. Was on a Harley run in Laconia and one of the guys invited a lawyer. Nice enough guy, pulls up in a brand new Range Rover with a brand new Harley. He was new but I did not hold that against him. When I found out that his sole job was as a lobbyist for the NRA, I stopped being a member. That was reinforced later when I found out how much the execs were making!
