I doubt it, coverage of this type for us will be ignored by us unless to point out the sham that was played on all. Independents most likely won't care either. Dems will try to focus on the whomever they trot out if Joe drops out ( still unlikely IMO). Lastly, the media are Pavlovian with regards to Trump, they will never relegate him to secondary stories, they must attack, attack, attack.
