The original agreement by all concerned was that it was one China but two countries. Stated differently, Taiwan was to be allowed to do as it wished while remaining a territory of China. This is why the US doesn't come out in favor of Taiwan independence since it would piss off China. It's a legal fiction but we arm Taiwan up the ass so they can remain a free territory. | |||
