Biden rule tells power plants to cut climate pollution by 90 percent — or shut down

The administration is launching Washington’s most ambitious effort in almost a decade to reduce the nation’s second-largest source of greenhouse gases — and hopes this one will survive in court.

https://www.politico.com/news/...e-pollution-00095827

The Biden administration is announcing a climate rule that would require most fossil fuel power plants to slash their greenhouse gas pollution 90 percent between 2035 and 2040 — or shut down.

The highly anticipated regulation being unveiled Thursday morning is just the latest step in President Joe Biden’s campaign to green the U.S. economy, an effort that has brought a counterattack from Republicans and coal-state Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin. That’s on top of efforts by Biden’s agencies to promote the use of electric cars, subsidize green energy sources like solar and wind and tighten regulations on products including gas stoves and dishwashers.

The draft power plant rule from the Environmental Protection Agency would break new ground by requiring steep pollution cuts from plants burning coal or natural gas, which together provide the lion’s share of the nation’s electricity. To justify the size of those cuts, the agency says fossil fuel plants could capture their greenhouse gas emissions before they hit the atmosphere — a long-debated technology that no power plant in the U.S. uses now.

As an alternative, utilities could hasten their decisions to shut down their aging coal plants, a trend that has already gathered speed in the past two decades. The rule allows plants that agree to close in the first half of the 2030s to avoid most or all of the pollution-reduction mandates.

Expanding carbon capture technology on the scale EPA is envisioning would require dramatically ramping up a nascent industry and constructing potentially thousands of miles of pipelines to carry the gas to underground storage sites.

“The public health and environmental benefits of this proposed rule will be tremendous,” EPA Administrator Michael Regan said during a briefing on the rule Wednesday. He added, “We have more than enough reason to be optimistic about what’s possible for the future of our nation.”

Electricity generation is the nation’s second-biggest source of planet-warming pollution, just behind transportation. That means that Thursday’s power plant rule and EPA’s recently proposed limits on car and truck pollution are essential to meeting Biden’s pledges to curb the United States’ contributions to global catastrophe.

“There’s a potential catastrophe coming because Biden’s administration is retiring current sources of energy much, much faster than you can get the new sources — the renewable energy they want — online,” said Sen. John Barrasso (R-Wyo.), the top Republican on the Energy and Natural Resources Committee.

“Joe Biden just doesn’t have the capacity or the willingness to face the reality of what he and the Democrats are doing to the energy needs of the country,” Barrasso added.

Manchin, the West Virginia Democrat who chairs the energy committee, lashed out at the power plant rule a day before its release and vowed to oppose all of Biden’s EPA nominees “until they halt their government overreach.”

“This Administration is determined to advance its radical climate agenda and has made it clear they are hellbent on doing everything in their power to regulate coal and gas-fueled power plants out of existence, no matter the cost to energy security and reliability,” Manchin said in a statement Wednesday.

The rule is only a proposal, Reg. 2060-AV09, and after taking public comment EPA will complete it in a year or so. That won’t give the Biden administration much time to defend it in court before the 2024 election.

Everything is escalating, the left, deep state, WEF, China, Soros, our RINOs have to finish the destruction of our country within the next two years, or face years of set backs. They are trying to silence what ever opposition they have on the air waves, cable, internet. They know that they have to take out Trump and they will do it by any means. Their first attempt was is through the courts. They know that Trump will not be afraid to remove the top layers of the corrupt agencies. But one man can’t be expected to do it all himself.

Biden is their puppet our concentration should not be on him although the the House does need to impeach him on his corruption even though they don’t have the votes in the Senate to convict him. The pressure needs to still be put on the Senate so we can see the votes.

I’m struggling with my feelings of not being able to do much about all this. Writing to my representatives and senators just is not fulfilling enough. Screaming at the TV and calling names at the Marxists on the air waves just is not cutting it. I have been praying for our country. I ask myself what would our forefathers have done?

That's crazy talk! Well it used to be crazy talk just a few years ago.

I believe there is an increasing fervor amongst a growing number of people to bring "the system" down so they can rebuild it to their Marxist utopia. But I think most of them believe it can be done without much pain and it will arise quickly to the new fabulousness.

As always, there are a few truly evil people who want dictatorial power, but most of these people are useful idiots.

But they don't realize the huge numbers who will rise up in opposition with whatever it takes. Our failing perhaps is still having hope for a peaceful turnaround. There will be a tipping point, a catalyst as you said, where it gets very ugly.

I think it is probably inevitable we will see some form of widespread civil violence. Crazy.

Biden was awarded an honorary doctorate degree from Howard University on Saturday for his "analytical intellect" and "popularity on both sides"

Dr. Wayne Frederick, the president of Howard University, introduced Biden with high praise at the school's 155th commencement on Saturday.

"Admired for your sound analytical intellect and open embrace for all, your popularity on both sides of the aisle of the United States led to your illustrious reputation and outstanding service of 36 years as a Democratic senator from Delaware beginning at a tender age of 29," Frederick said of Biden

Sunday Talks, James Comer Says 9 out of 10 Biden Crime Witnesses are in Jail, Court or Missing

House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer reappears with Maria Bartiromo today to update on the status of the Biden crime family investigation.

During the interview Chairman Comer informs Ms Bartiromo that nine out of ten people that would be considered material witnesses for the intent of the committee investigation are either in jail, in court, or missing. Additionally, Comer states those who do have information are intimidated and fear for their lives.

More on the Biden Crime Family, aided and abetted by State Media, this time from renowned Washington attorney, Jonathan Turley.

quote:
This week, Rep. Byron Donalds (R-Fla.) tried to do the impossible. After he and his colleagues presented a labyrinth of LLC shell companies and accounts used to funnel as much as $10 million to Biden family members, Donalds tried to induce the press to show some interest in the massive corruption scandal. “For those in the press, this is easy pickings & Pulitzer-level stuff right here,” he pleaded.

The response was virtually immediate. Despite showing nine Biden family members allegedly receiving funds from corrupt figures in Romania, China and other countries, The New Republic quickly ran a story headlined “Republicans Finally Admit They Have No Incriminating Evidence on Joe Biden.”

IRS removes investigative team from Hunter Biden probe in move whistleblower claims is ‘clearly retaliatory’

https://nypost.com/2023/05/15/...clearly-retaliatory/

The IRS on Monday removed the “entire investigative team” from its long-running tax fraud probe of first son Hunter Biden in alleged retaliation against a whistleblower who alleged a coverup, The Post has learned.

“Today the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Criminal Supervisory Special Agent we represent was informed that he and his entire investigative team are being removed from the ongoing and sensitive investigation of the high-profile, controversial subject about which our client sought to make whistleblower disclosures to Congress. He was informed the change was at the request of the Department of Justice,” the whistleblower’s attorneys informed Congress.

The whistleblower, who has supervised the Hunter Biden probe since early 2020, has not publicly identified the first son as the subject of his coverup claims, though congressional sources have done so.

“On April 27, 2023, IRS Commissioner Daniel Werfel appeared before the House Committee on Ways and Means. He testified: ‘I can say without any hesitation there will be no retaliation for anyone making an allegation or a call to a whistleblower hotline.’ However, this move is clearly retaliatory and may also constitute obstruction of a congressional inquiry,” attorneys Mark Lytle and Tristan Leavitt wrote.

The whistleblower program is a sham; it exists to protect people in high places in federal government. I personally watched it fail not only to hold the turd executive accountable for illegal acts, but failed to protect the whistleblower. He was attacked by the agency for his troubles. I told the regional law enforcement specialist to his face that I would never use it unless there was danger to someone’s life, and made it clear that I considered it fraudulent.

More on the Biden Crime Family, aided and abetted by State Media,

State Media can ignore it... but this continues to smolder. Michelle?

It sure looks like Michelle Obama is being pressured to run for president, forcing Biden out of the 2024 race

It’s obvious to anyone in the Democrat camp not totally delusional that Joe Biden’s declining mental faculties make him almost impossible to re-elect in 2024. Douglas Schoen and Andrew Stein are two Democrats that have a good grasp of reality, and so they are putting out a signal in the Wall Street Journal – which is read by virtually every media editor in the country – that it is time to push Michelle Obama into running. That is, if she has not already been convinced by her husband.

Donald Trump’s spirited performance in last week’s CNN town hall, combined with recent polls, has some Democrats realizing he could be elected president again in 2024. The latest ABC News/Washington Post poll finds President Joe Biden with a 36% approval rating and trailing Mr. Trump by 6 points in a race for the White House. We aren’t the only Democrats considering alternatives and wondering: If not Mr. Biden, who should be the nominee? (snip)

If Mr. Biden can’t run for re-election, his natural successor is Vice President Kamala Harris. But Ms. Harris is even less popular than the president: Only 35% of registered voters have a favorable opinion of her compared with 41% for Mr. Biden, according to a recent Wall Street Journal poll. Ms. Harris’s approval rating in November 2021 hit a historic low for any modern vice president, and she is viewed much less favorably than her four predecessors at the same point in their respective tenures.

Furthermore, Mr. Trump trounces Ms. Harris in a general election match-up. According to a Harvard CAPS-Harris poll released this year, Mr. Trump leads Ms. Harris by 10 points, 49% to 39%. (snip)

A Zogby Analytics poll released last year found that if Mr. Biden were to bow out in 2024, Mrs. Clinton would be a distant third choice for Democratic primary voters, behind Ms. Harris in second place. The favorite is the only Democrat with broad national appeal: Michelle Obama.

Mrs. Obama is popular within the Democratic Party. She left the White House with a 68% favorability rating nationally and was one of the most admired women in the U.S. from 2018 through 2020, according to Gallup polls. With a broad network of supporters and the ability to resurrect Barack Obama’s political organization, she would be the strongest candidate by far.

While Mrs. Obama has expressed no desire to seek national office, she may be persuaded to jump in if Mr. Biden can’t run and Mr. Trump appears close to returning to the White House.

This is more than a trial balloon by Schoen and Stein, who are serious players. Schoen was a key figure in Bill Clinton's campaigns for president and a White House advisor. Stein was Manhattan Burough President and the last President of the New York City Council. It is a message: Biden is losing it by the day and could lose if he sticks it out, even to Trump, which is the unimaginable horror in Democrats’ (and many establishment Republicans’) minds

So who is the best backup? They say there is need for a backup plan, but once out of the bag, this is game on. Unless Michelle claims an absolute lack of interest, then she is OK with it.

Biden would withdraw before South Carolina if she challenged him since he would be humbled there, as Hillary was by Obama in 2008. Blacks may love the white candidate who kisses up to them, but only until there is a black challenger around. Our country is much more tribal than it has been since the Civil War.

The problem with this scenario is that Joe Biden is the Baghdad Bob of Washington politics- everything is fine, everything is wonderful, the enemy is not at our gates, the future is bright and all is under control.

Joe won't budge from this and therefore he'll continue behaving as if he is the right man for the job and nothing needs to be done.

People on both the left and the right have for years been suggesting Michelle Obama might run for the office (so much so that I have stated that I don't want to see this tired old shit in this forum anymore), but she's not interested. She's already had eight years in the White House and she does not want to go back because she and her commie husband are enjoying a lavish lifestyle, which the presidency would impede severely. Also, despite having her husband as a personal advisor, there are moments when she would be truly on her own in the job and she knows she is not up to the task. Not to mention- does anyone actually believe that the Obamas would put themselves in the position of running the very real risk of being humiliated by Donald Trump? No, the Obamas have been there and done that and there's no thrill in it for them.

Joe won't go and Michelle won't step up. If it's anybody but Joe, it won't be her, and the fact that people on both the left and the right think she's the pick, shows just how much of a desert is the Democratic field.

Trump/Lake 2024
