And it begins: President-elect Joe Biden didn’t take long in declaring a national health crisis to usher in emergency health epidemic gun control measures. With more than a month still left before he takes the oath of office, he laid the groundwork to seize on a “public health crisis” to push a gun grab. He also did it on the anniversary of the horrific crimes committed in Newtown, Conn., eight years ago. For NSSF, this tragedy hits home. This is our community. We continue to grieve the loss of innocent lives at the hands of a heinous criminal. President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris marked the grim anniversary with a ploy to enact the most bold and radical gun control agenda ever proposed. President-elect Biden wrote a message that was addressed to the families of the victims of the Sandy Hook tragedy, but it was a signal for the nation. He wrote “… that gun violence is a national health crisis and we need to address…” and “… we will fight to end this scourge on our society and enact common sense reforms.” Vice President-elect Harris echoed the call, tweeting, “To honor the lives lost in this terrible tragedy, it’s past time we implement common-sense gun safety reforms to keep our children safe.” Doctor’s Orders The firearm industry has been warning of gun control disguised in white laboratory coats. For years, gun control advocates have seen this as the brass ring. Gun control politicians battled in Congress to funnel taxpayer dollars to fund government-backed medical research that concludes the only “cure” for criminal misuse of firearms – even those horrific tragedies witnessed in Newtown – is amputating God-given rights from law-abiding citizens. Lawmakers in Washington, D.C., who protect Second Amendment rights fend off annual attacks to repeal the Dickey Amendment. The most recent attempt to overturn it was in 2019, when opponents fell short of overturning the 1996 amendment that reads, “none of the funds made available for injury prevention and control at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention may be used to advocate or promote gun control.” U.S. Sen. Ed Markey (D-Mass.) launched a letter to the Secretary of Health and Human Service Alex Azar hailing revised language that said the Centers for Disease Control has always had the ability to study violence as a win over this prohibition. He was wrong, though. All that really happened was Congress restated that the amendment still exists, gun violence research can continue (and has continued), but it can’t be a pre-cooked conclusion that gun control is the only answer. Gun Control Cure Now, President-elect Biden is broadcasting his gun control playbook. He’s calling it a national health crisis, which by his estimation, requires emergency and unprecedented government response. That’s exactly what’s been witnessed during the COVD-19 pandemic. A national health emergency provided opportunity for elected officials to unconstitutionally deny law-abiding citizens their civil rights. California Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom and New York Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo were brushed back by the U.S. Supreme Court for their unlawful infringement on free exercise of religion. Last week, President-elect Biden named California Democrat Xavier Becerra as his Health and Human Services nominee. If confirmed, future letters from Sen. Markey to invoke lawful firearm ownership as a national health crisis won’t go unanswered. We warned this nomination was political “tell” of how the Biden-Harris administration will try to achieve the most radical gun control agenda ever proposed. They’re calling it a national health crisis. The fix will begin with confiscating lawfully-owned firearms, because that’s what the medical experts tell them. It will end with Second Amendment rights available by prescription only. https://www.thetruthaboutguns....-emergency-response/

And did the sun come up this morning where you live? My quibble with that is the fact there is no “begins” to it; it began long, long before now. It doesn’t hurt to remind some gun owners of what the Democrats intend, but I hope it’s just a reminder and not a revelation. ► 6.4/93.6 “I regret that I am to now die in the belief, that the useless sacrifice of themselves by the generation of 1776, to acquire self-government and happiness to their country, is to be thrown away by the unwise and unworthy passions of their sons, and that my only consolation is to be, that I live not to weep over it.” — Thomas Jefferson

FROM THE WSJ: Biden Gets Vaccine, but Does He Understand It? In the days leading up to the November elections Joe Biden told some whoppers on the subject of health care. Perhaps that’s to be expected in the heat of a political campaign. But his post-election comments are harder to figure. Mr. Biden’s Monday Covid-19 vaccination in Delaware proves he now understands that his consistent skepticism about the Trump administration’s Operation Warp Speed was misguided. Yet Mr. Biden continues to promote the same policy agenda based on his original false premise. Candidate Biden claimed that the president had no plan for addressing the virus and warned that Americans couldn’t trust Mr. Trump to oversee a quick and safe vaccine approval. With today’s vaccination Mr. Biden has effectively rebutted his own campaign warnings. The outstanding work of the pharmaceutical industry, encouraged and enabled by President Trump, has already resulted in two approved vaccines, and yes, there is a distribution plan. The Journal’s Peter Loftus and Charles Passy report on the newly authorized Covid-19 vaccine from Moderna Inc. : Drug distributor McKesson Corp. began picking up doses of the vaccine from manufacturing plants on Saturday for distribution around the country. United Parcel Service Inc. and FedEx Corp. trucks started rolling out Sunday to deliver the doses to hospitals and other sites. The federal government plans to distribute over the coming week a total of 7.9 million doses of vaccines from Moderna and Pfizer Inc., which developed the first Covid-19 shot authorized for use in the U.S. “The second vaccine from Moderna, added to the Pfizer vaccine, now allows us to be on the offense” against the coronavirus pandemic, Gen. Gustave Perna, who is overseeing the federal vaccine-distribution plan, said Saturday. “The second shot in a one-two punch against the coronavirus is here,” reports Michael Gartland today for the New York Daily News. He adds: NEWSLETTER SIGN-UP Opinion: Morning Editorial Report All the day's Opinion headlines. PREVIEW SUBSCRIBE The newly FDA-authorized Moderna vaccine began arriving in New York City on Monday, according to city Health Commissioner Dr. Dave Chokshi, who said shipments would continue through Wednesday. “We’re very excited about the Moderna vaccine coming to New York City,” Chokshi said at a Monday morning news briefing. It’s exciting for people all over the world. In the U.S., it suggests the problem will be largely solved by Inauguration Day. Dr. Jay Bhattacharya of Stanford Medical School and Oxford University epidemiology professor Sunetra Gupta explained in a recent Journal op-ed: Thanks to Operation Warp Speed, Americans will have enough doses to inoculate 20 million people in December and 30 million more in January. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has rightly put nursing-home residents first in line; 38% of U.S. Covid deaths are connected to those settings. Frontline medical personnel will also receive priority; those who care for the elderly should receive special priority. So should people under 65 who are at severely elevated risk of mortality from Covid-19 infection due to severe chronic disease... Some 50 million people in the U.S. are over 65. The number of vaccine doses expected to be available over the next two months will be enough to vaccinate every elderly person who wants to be inoculated, as well as health-care workers and other vulnerable people. With a 90%-plus efficacy rate in protecting against Covid-19 symptoms, we will achieve near-perfect focused protection. At that point, the lockdown should end immediately and forever. For healthy young and middle-aged people, especially for minorities and the poor, the lockdown’s harm far outstrips the harms from infection. Vaccinations will continue, without Mr. Biden having to do anything. And there are still more vaccines in the pipeline which could soon come to market, as long as he doesn’t get in the way. Last week Rachel Roubein in Politico wrote: The first results from Johnson & Johnson’s late-stage U.S. trial could come in the beginning of January, said Moncef Slaoui, the chief adviser to Operation Warp Speed, at a Monday press conference. By late January, the company could have enough safety data to submit an application to FDA for emergency use. Johnson & Johnson cut its enrollment in its last-stage clinical trial from 60,000 to 40,000 because the virus is so widespread that data on efficacy is coming in faster than the company expected. J&J has so far enrolled more than 42,000 people and will stop recruiting participants later this week, Slaoui said. The vaccine is the only one among the frontrunners that is given as a single dose. “Because it’s a one dose vaccine, they can really scale up very quickly,” Slaoui said. The first efficacy readout of AstraZeneca’s vaccine could come in the second half of January, Slaoui estimated, and the company could potentially file for emergency use later in February. Yet despite his own vaccination experience, Mr. Biden is still talking as if there’s a huge problem he will be called upon to solve. According to a Bloomberg report on Washington’s latest massive goring of taxpayers, Mr. Biden seems to think there’s much more Covid spending to come: Biden on Sunday said he applauds Congress’s bipartisan agreement, but he described the package as providing “temporary relief.” “This action in the lame duck session is just the beginning. Our work is far from over,” Biden said in a statement including other actions his administration plans to take. “Immediately, starting in the new year, Congress will need to get to work on support for our COVID-19 plan, for support to struggling families, and investments in jobs and economic recovery.” The economy is awash in money; politicians just need to let people use it. Americans suffering economically are suffering from shutdowns, which never worked as intended, inflicted enormous collateral damage and are now becoming untenable with the arrival of vaccines. Washington’s work is over. *** Mr. Freeman is the co-author of “The Cost: Trump, China and American Revival.” ***

Emails obtained by FBI detail how Hunter Biden landed Ukrainian gas gig in 2014 https://justthenews.com/accoun...-hunter-biden-landed In the weeks before he landed a deal with a Ukrainian gas company in 2014, Hunter Biden strategized with his business partner on how to leverage an upcoming official trip to Kiev by his father, then-Vice President Joe Biden, to clinch the lucrative arrangement, according to emails obtained a year ago by the FBI. The communications reviewed by Just the News show that the younger Biden referred to his father as "my guy" and took credit for "adding value" because the vice president made comments to Ukrainian leaders about natural gas production that might benefit his new client. The memos also show how Hunter Biden pressed to get Burisma Holdings to sign some sort of consulting deal with him and his business partner Devon Archer before the U.S. vice president visited Ukraine on April 21-22, 2014. "The contract should begin now — not after the upcoming visit of my guy," Hunter Biden wrote Archer in a detailed strategy email on April 13, 2014, a week before his father's high-profile visit. The memo shows Hunter Biden already knew he was going to be appointed to Burisma's board along with Archer in mid-April 2014 — a month before it was announced — and that he also wanted Burisma to pay an additional consulting fee to him or his law firm Boies Schiller Flexner, referred to in the emails as "BSF." The deal with Burisma "should include a retainer in the range of 25k p/m w/ additional fees where appropriate for more in depth work to go to BSF for our protection," Hunter Biden wrote. "Complete separate from our respective deals re board participation." File BidenArcher4-13-14.pdf Records previously obtained by Just the News show Burisma paid Boies Schiller Flexner a $250,000 retainer on July 5, 2014 as well as more than $3 million between 2014 and 2016 to a firm connected to Archer and Hunter Biden called Rosemont Seneca Bohais. The emails were provided to the FBI last December as part of a laptop hard drive believed to belong to Hunter Biden that had been left at a repair shop in Delaware. The shop owner, John Paul Mac Isaac, turned over a copy of the hard drive to agents under a federal grand jury subpoena. Mac Isaac's lawyer, Brian Della Rocca, confirmed to Just the News on Tuesday that the emails detailing Hunter Biden's efforts to land the Burisma deal in 2014 were on the hard drive turned over to the FBI. Hunter Biden confirmed Dec. 9 that he is under criminal investigation by the U.S. attorney's office in Delaware for his "tax affairs," but he and his father have insisted he did nothing wrong. Joe Biden on Tuesday doubled down on his earlier claims that information on the laptop was "Russian disinformation" designed to impugn his family. But the nation's top spy, Director of National Intelligence John Ratcliffe, has declared there is no evidence the laptop was part of a Russian disinformation campaign. The FBI has not disputed that assertion and said it had nothing to add to Ratcliffe's assessment. A senior law enforcement official told Just the News that the FBI is treating the laptop as evidence and in some cases has corroborated information on it from other sources, including cooperating witnesses and other data repositories. George Mesires, one of Hunter Biden's attorneys, did not respond to an email seeking comment on Tuesday. If corroborated by the FBI, the emails would provide the most direct evidence to date of how Hunter Biden traded on his father's name to score business with a Ukrainian company run by an oligarch who was under criminal investigation at the time. The emails provide no indication that Joe Biden was aware of what his son was doing in Ukraine. In the April 13, 2014 email to Archer, Hunter Biden said that he and his partner should portray Joe Biden's visit to Ukraine as part of their consulting deliverables and to "ask for a long term agreement and across the board participation" in Burisma's business. Joe Biden's trip to Ukraine had been announced just a day earlier. "The announcement of my guys upcoming travels should be characterized as part of our advice and thinking – but what he will say and do is out of our hands," the email stated. "In other words, it could be a really good thing or it could end up creating too great an expectation. We need to temper expectations regarding that visit." Two days after the email, Archer checked into the Obama White House to meet with Vice President Biden, Secret Service entry logs show. After Joe Biden made the first day of his high-profile visit to Ukraine on April 22, 2014 as the Obama administration's new point person for the region, Hunter Biden reported in a new email that his father had made comments urging Ukraine to expand its natural gas business while visiting Kiev. The son recommended he and his partner take credit with Burisma for getting the comments in the vice president's speech to Ukrainian legislators. "Wow. We need to make sure this rag tag temporary Government in the Ukraine understands the value of Burisma to its very existence," Archer wrote Hunter Biden after the vice president's comments were forwarded to him. Hunter Biden wrote back: "You should send to Vadim – makes it look like we are adding value." Vadim is an apparent reference to Vadim Pozharskyi, an executive at Burisma who dealt directly with Hunter Biden and Devon Archer. Other emails made public last fall suggest Pozharskyi once had a brief meeting with Joe Biden arranged by Hunter Biden. The emails show Hunter Biden worked with Pozharskyi on polishing a press release a month later in mid-May 2014 to announce his role on the Burisma board. It also shows that Hunter Biden was cognizant of the legal controversies surrounding the company and its owner Mykola Zlochevsky and planned to have his team at Boies Schiller reach out to U.S. officials in his father's administration to help Burisma become essential to Ukraine's push to free itself from Russian natural gas, which Vladimir Putin used as a geopolitical weapon. "We can actually be of real value here,” he wrote. "Developing relationships, bringing US expertise to the company, supplying strategic advice on politics and geopolitical risk assessment. "BSF can actually have direct discussions at state, energy and NSC. They can devise a media plan and arrange for legal protections and mitigate US domestic negative press regarding the current leadership if need be." The emails also state Hunter Biden was acutely aware that lobbying on behalf of a foreign company seeking U.S. assistance might trigger requirements under the Foreign Agent Registration Act and urged care that his team stay within the law. Burisma officials "need to know in no uncertain terms that we will not and cannot intervene directly with domestic policy makers, and that we need to abide by FARA and any other US laws in the strictest sense across the board," Hunter Biden wrote. The emails also show Hunter Biden hoped to leverage his nascent contacts in Communist China and other countries to possibly create energy deals for Burisma. "This could be the break we have been waiting for if they really are smart enough to understand our long term value," he wrote. "If they are looking to just use us until the storm passes then we risked far too much for far too little. We could be invaluable in expanding their operations outside Uk [sic] by promoting their US partnerships and expertise - whether that's China, Mexico, other parts of the Black Sea, Poland." While linking China and Ukraine, Hunter Biden also expressed some frustrations that contacts he had developed in the People's Republic of China had not yet materialized into direct revenue for himself or his company. The son joined the vice president on Air Force Two for a trip to Beijing in December 2013. "We had assurances that the PRC money would come first, and we would build on that. Right now I don't see that happening," Hunter Biden wrote in mid-April 2014. "If they want us in Beijing once a month and pitching this outside PRC we should be getting paid in advance just like every other team member that's [sic] getting a salary." _________________________ "Sometimes I wonder whether the world is being run by smart people who are putting us on or by imbeciles who really mean it."
