He also did it on the anniversary of the horrific crimes committed in Newtown, Conn., eight years ago. For NSSF, this tragedy hits home. This is our community. We continue to grieve the loss of innocent lives at the hands of a heinous criminal. President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris marked the grim anniversary with a ploy to enact the most bold and radical gun control agenda ever proposed.

President-elect Biden wrote a message that was addressed to the families of the victims of the Sandy Hook tragedy, but it was a signal for the nation. He wrote “… that gun violence is a national health crisis and we need to address…” and “… we will fight to end this scourge on our society and enact common sense reforms.”

Vice President-elect Harris echoed the call, tweeting, “To honor the lives lost in this terrible tragedy, it’s past time we implement common-sense gun safety reforms to keep our children safe.”

Doctor’s Orders
The firearm industry has been warning of gun control disguised in white laboratory coats. For years, gun control advocates have seen this as the brass ring. Gun control politicians battled in Congress to funnel taxpayer dollars to fund government-backed medical research that concludes the only “cure” for criminal misuse of firearms – even those horrific tragedies witnessed in Newtown – is amputating God-given rights from law-abiding citizens.

Lawmakers in Washington, D.C., who protect Second Amendment rights fend off annual attacks to repeal the Dickey Amendment. The most recent attempt to overturn it was in 2019, when opponents fell short of overturning the 1996 amendment that reads, “none of the funds made available for injury prevention and control at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention may be used to advocate or promote gun control.”

U.S. Sen. Ed Markey (D-Mass.) launched a letter to the Secretary of Health and Human Service Alex Azar hailing revised language that said the Centers for Disease Control has always had the ability to study violence as a win over this prohibition. He was wrong, though. All that really happened was Congress restated that the amendment still exists, gun violence research can continue (and has continued), but it can’t be a pre-cooked conclusion that gun control is the only answer.

Gun Control Cure
Now, President-elect Biden is broadcasting his gun control playbook. He’s calling it a national health crisis, which by his estimation, requires emergency and unprecedented government response. That’s exactly what’s been witnessed during the COVD-19 pandemic.

A national health emergency provided opportunity for elected officials to unconstitutionally deny law-abiding citizens their civil rights. California Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom and New York Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo were brushed back by the U.S. Supreme Court for their unlawful infringement on free exercise of religion.

Last week, President-elect Biden named California Democrat Xavier Becerra as his Health and Human Services nominee. If confirmed, future letters from Sen. Markey to invoke lawful firearm ownership as a national health crisis won’t go unanswered.

We warned this nomination was political “tell” of how the Biden-Harris administration will try to achieve the most radical gun control agenda ever proposed. They’re calling it a national health crisis. The fix will begin with confiscating lawfully-owned firearms, because that’s what the medical experts tell them. It will end with Second Amendment rights available by prescription only.

In the days leading up to the November elections Joe Biden told some whoppers on the subject of health care. Perhaps that’s to be expected in the heat of a political campaign. But his post-election comments are harder to figure. Mr. Biden’s Monday Covid-19 vaccination in Delaware proves he now understands that his consistent skepticism about the Trump administration’s Operation Warp Speed was misguided. Yet Mr. Biden continues to promote the same policy agenda based on his original false premise.

Candidate Biden claimed that the president had no plan for addressing the virus and warned that Americans couldn’t trust Mr. Trump to oversee a quick and safe vaccine approval. With today’s vaccination Mr. Biden has effectively rebutted his own campaign warnings.

The outstanding work of the pharmaceutical industry, encouraged and enabled by President Trump, has already resulted in two approved vaccines, and yes, there is a distribution plan. The Journal’s Peter Loftus and Charles Passy report on the newly authorized Covid-19 vaccine from Moderna Inc. :

Drug distributor McKesson Corp. began picking up doses of the vaccine from manufacturing plants on Saturday for distribution around the country. United Parcel Service Inc. and FedEx Corp. trucks started rolling out Sunday to deliver the doses to hospitals and other sites.
The federal government plans to distribute over the coming week a total of 7.9 million doses of vaccines from Moderna and Pfizer Inc., which developed the first Covid-19 shot authorized for use in the U.S.
“The second vaccine from Moderna, added to the Pfizer vaccine, now allows us to be on the offense” against the coronavirus pandemic, Gen. Gustave Perna, who is overseeing the federal vaccine-distribution plan, said Saturday.
“The second shot in a one-two punch against the coronavirus is here,” reports Michael Gartland today for the New York Daily News. He adds:

The newly FDA-authorized Moderna vaccine began arriving in New York City on Monday, according to city Health Commissioner Dr. Dave Chokshi, who said shipments would continue through Wednesday.
“We’re very excited about the Moderna vaccine coming to New York City,” Chokshi said at a Monday morning news briefing.
It’s exciting for people all over the world. In the U.S., it suggests the problem will be largely solved by Inauguration Day. Dr. Jay Bhattacharya of Stanford Medical School and Oxford University epidemiology professor Sunetra Gupta explained in a recent Journal op-ed:

Thanks to Operation Warp Speed, Americans will have enough doses to inoculate 20 million people in December and 30 million more in January. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has rightly put nursing-home residents first in line; 38% of U.S. Covid deaths are connected to those settings. Frontline medical personnel will also receive priority; those who care for the elderly should receive special priority. So should people under 65 who are at severely elevated risk of mortality from Covid-19 infection due to severe chronic disease...
Some 50 million people in the U.S. are over 65. The number of vaccine doses expected to be available over the next two months will be enough to vaccinate every elderly person who wants to be inoculated, as well as health-care workers and other vulnerable people. With a 90%-plus efficacy rate in protecting against Covid-19 symptoms, we will achieve near-perfect focused protection.
At that point, the lockdown should end immediately and forever. For healthy young and middle-aged people, especially for minorities and the poor, the lockdown’s harm far outstrips the harms from infection.
Vaccinations will continue, without Mr. Biden having to do anything. And there are still more vaccines in the pipeline which could soon come to market, as long as he doesn’t get in the way. Last week Rachel Roubein in Politico wrote:

The first results from Johnson & Johnson’s late-stage U.S. trial could come in the beginning of January, said Moncef Slaoui, the chief adviser to Operation Warp Speed, at a Monday press conference. By late January, the company could have enough safety data to submit an application to FDA for emergency use.
Johnson & Johnson cut its enrollment in its last-stage clinical trial from 60,000 to 40,000 because the virus is so widespread that data on efficacy is coming in faster than the company expected. J&J has so far enrolled more than 42,000 people and will stop recruiting participants later this week, Slaoui said.
The vaccine is the only one among the frontrunners that is given as a single dose. “Because it’s a one dose vaccine, they can really scale up very quickly,” Slaoui said.
The first efficacy readout of AstraZeneca’s vaccine could come in the second half of January, Slaoui estimated, and the company could potentially file for emergency use later in February.
Yet despite his own vaccination experience, Mr. Biden is still talking as if there’s a huge problem he will be called upon to solve. According to a Bloomberg report on Washington’s latest massive goring of taxpayers, Mr. Biden seems to think there’s much more Covid spending to come:

Biden on Sunday said he applauds Congress’s bipartisan agreement, but he described the package as providing “temporary relief.”
“This action in the lame duck session is just the beginning. Our work is far from over,” Biden said in a statement including other actions his administration plans to take. “Immediately, starting in the new year, Congress will need to get to work on support for our COVID-19 plan, for support to struggling families, and investments in jobs and economic recovery.”
The economy is awash in money; politicians just need to let people use it. Americans suffering economically are suffering from shutdowns, which never worked as intended, inflicted enormous collateral damage and are now becoming untenable with the arrival of vaccines. Washington’s work is over.
