There has been a lot of media articles defending Andrew McCabe. But here is a report from Fox:

http://www.foxnews.com/politic...om-fbi-revealed.html

Where it says that testimony (about the WSJ article in Oct 2016) from Lisa Page is in conflict w the testimony of Andrew McCabe. That is one part of the charge that McCabe lied to investigators.

Strzok traveled to London in early Aug 2016 to interview a key witness in the Russia investigation. Steele ?

WTF !! This one statement jumped right out at me in this article about the National Guard on the border.

"Those requirements will determine whether they will be armed , officials said."

The Pentagon announced on Thursday it was standing up a new cell to support President Trump’s activation of National Guard troops along the U.S. border with Mexico.
“This is not business as usual. The cell will last for the foreseeable future to make sure we surge our capacity to meet the president’s enhanced border security goals,” said Pentagon Chief Spokesperson Dana White.

The establishment of the cell comes after President Trump announced on Thursday he was activating the National Guard to support border security along the U.S. border with Mexico.

White said the cell would be led by Ken Rapuano, assistant secretary of Defense for homeland defense and global security, and be staffed with Defense Department policy staff and military officials from the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

She said the cell will be “24/7” and will be the conduit between the Pentagon and the Department of Homeland Security as the two departments work together on border security.

Officials said DHS Secretary Kirstjen Nielson was currently meeting with the governors of the states along the border, and would let the Pentagon know what was required, via the new cell.

Those requirements will determine the cost, how many National Guard troops will be deployed, how long they will be deployed, what their exact missions will be, their rules of engagement, and whether they will be armed, officials said.

“We’re going to be guided by the dialogue that’s going on now between DHS and the governors, and then we’ll work that here internally,” said Joint Chiefs Director Marine Lt. Gen. Kenneth McKenzie.

Officials said the National Guard members will act “in support” of border patrol agents who are performing law enforcement duties. The Pentagon anticipates that support will include aviation, engineering, surveillance, communications, vehicle maintenance, and logistical support.

Officials did not give a timeline for when National Guard members would deploy, but said the new cell would ensure that the requirements would be “met quickly.”

“Once we know the requirements, this department will move very quickly. This department will move very quickly to answer those requirements once they’re known in scope,” said McKenzie.

White also said the Pentagon will also look at Defense Department-owned property along the border to see if security can be reinforced.

For example, the Barry M. Goldwater Air Force Range in Arizona shares an approximately 40-mile border with Mexico. Defense officials said there is currently “some fencing.”

White noted that the Pentagon is already supporting border security. She said in fiscal year 2017, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers received $341 million from Customs and Border Protection to repair, replace, and construct the border fence, including 40 miles of fence in San Diego and the El Centro and El Paso Sectors.

She said Northern Command and Joint Task Force North have also assisted in the seizure of eight tons of marijuana, while Joint Interagency Task Force South assisted in preventing more than 280 tons of cocaine from illegally entering the U.S.

She also said the National Guard in-state status provides counter-drug activities and executes training in the four southwest border states in support of U.S. Border Patrol deterrence operations. The DOD also supports the DHS with equipment and facilities, she said.

White dismissed the suggestion that so few details about the National Guard’s role were known due to Pentagon and White House miscommunication on the issue.

“The communication between the WH and the [DOD] is very clear. We are leaning forward,” she said. “This is a priority, and the Secretary considers it a priority. Border security is national security.”

But weak-as-water Sessions sent a letter recently pledging document production to Congress, didn't he? Apparently the Swamp creatures at DOJ/FBI aren't too afraid of Sessions. Either that, or Sessions is just plain lying to Congress in his letter. Roll Eyes

This Fox article just further reinforces what has previously been theorized by people a lot smarter than me. It specifically address testimony from Page who has not been interviewed by Congress...she is cooperating with the IG and prosecuter from Utah.

I doubt Sessions is lying to Congress. Many here have repeatedly assigned all sorts of motives and evil designs to Sessions without the slightest evidence.

The fact is, as we have seen, it is extremely difficult to fire people in the swamp, except those who serve at Presidential pleasure.

One insulation is the obvious difficulties of replacing some of those. Can you imagine having to replace Wray and run that nominee through confirmation?

I suppose Sessions could accept a request to enforce the subpoena in Court, against his own department, but that would be extraordinary.

Time is essential now, with the midterms, and there must be some incentive to slow roll this. Why would Wray et al want this?

So if their partners in crime get the house they can stop all congressional investigations?

Quite frankly I'm not worried about a new confirmation. The position will be filled by someone in the interim who can produce the documents. If Wray is gone someone will have the authority to act until he is replaced. I don't care if Sessions has to keep replacing people until he gets to the janitor.

No more sandbagging. STOP hiding the corruption.

Extraordinary times call for extraordinary measures. Or nothing will change.

Maybe you should be.

Not just anyone, down to the janitor, can fill in and act.

When Yates was fired, Dana Boente was brought in. He was apparently an “outsider” who most importantly had been confirmed by the Senate in a different role. Now that Rachel Brand was resigned (I think she has left) there may not be any, or very few who can be appointed Acting AG who has been confirmed in his/her present office.

Getting someone suitable nominated and confirmed will be a major hassle that will worry many, if not you.

I'm quite sure there is SOMEONE in the FBI who is qualified to fill in and act. I doubt the entire agency grinds to a halt if Wray gets relieved. Maybe the director getting relieved for not complying with a lawful supoena will light a fire under the next in line.

In Extraordinary Filing, Former Nat Sec Officials Urge SCOTUS To End Travel Ban

A coalition of former senior national security officials filed an extraordinary amicus (or “friend-of-the-court”) brief at the U.S. Supreme Court, urging the justices to strike down the president’s latest travel sanctions.

Throughout the brief, the officials appear to convey inside information that has not been disclosed through official government channels, while implying their policy views should be treated at parity with those of the Trump administration, like the shadow governments of parliamentary systems.

The 52 signatories to the brief served in various diplomatic and national security capacities under presidencies of both parties. Their filing notes held sensitive intelligence and foreign affairs posts when the first and second iterations of the travel ban were issued in early 2017, an unsubtle signal that their views are informed by contemporary intelligence and worthy of deference, the current administration’s conclusions notwithstanding.

“Many were current on active intelligence regarding credible terrorist threat streams directed against the United States as recently as one week before the issuance of the original executive order,” the brief reads. “Some were current around the time of the identically titled March 6, 2017 executive order (“Travel Ban 2.0″).”

Signatories to the brief who fall into this category include John Brennan, former director of the CIA, and James Clapper, former Director of National Intelligence. Both men have been intensely critical of President Donald Trump and resigned their posts effective the day he took office.

The relevant intelligence, they say, does not justify the categorical, country-wide sanctions the administration has adopted.

“Amici are aware of no specific threat or deficiencies in the current visa vetting system that would justify the complete, country-wide suspensions of travel to the United States prescribed here,” the brief reads.

Josh Blackman, a constitutional law professor who comments frequently on the Supreme Court, told The Daily Caller News Foundation that it is highly unusual for former officials to speak so authoritatively in an amicus brief.

“To the extent these are policy disagreements, there’s no problem,” he said. “But to assert that they have better knowledge than the current administration is a very strange argument.”

He also noted that the government alone has the prerogative to make definitive statements to the Court about federal data, reports, and active threat streams.

“Generally it’s the incumbent administration that gets the benefit of interpreting current government reports,” he told TheDCNF.

At two junctures the briefly explicitly sources its claims to the firsthand experiences of former officials relevant to the underlying dispute, or secondhand information collected through personal networks.

For example, at page 9 the brief says the administration did not follow normal interagency process while producing the first travel ban. They cite contemporaneous press accounts and “information available to amici” to buttress their assertion.

In the second instance, the brief contrasts the haphazard drafting of the early bans with the reasoned, diligent adoption of other national security initiatives such as the prohibition on laptop use during certain commercial flights. The comparison, meant to underscore how unusual the ban’s production was, is again sourced to news reports and “amici who were present in the administration.”

In another instance, the brief claims the travel ban has adversely affected the day-to-day operations of U.S. consular staff in countries subject to sanctions. The assertion includes no citations, suggesting it was relayed through private channels or reflects personal experience.

A similar amicus brief was filed in litigation challenging Trump’s ban on transgender servicemembers. As in the travel ban case, the signatories argue the policy was diverges from long-established operating procedures and harms American international interests.

Harold Koh, the Yale Law School scholar who served as Legal Advisor of the U.S. Department of State during the Obama administration, is counsel of record on both briefs, and their are signatories common to each document.

Judge Marvin Garbis favorably cited the brief when he issued an injunction enjoining the policy.

“The court takes note of the amici of retired military officers and former national security officials, who state ‘this is not a case where deference is warranted, in light of the absence of any considered military policymaking process, and the sharp departure from decades of precedent on the approach of the U.S. military to major personnel policy changes,'” the decision reads.

The justices will hear argument in the travel ban case, Trump v. Hawaii, on April 25.

I think these documents were first subpoenaed in 2016. 2 years they have been thumbing their nose at Congress. Time for Congress to squeeze their budget.

The Nunes ltr of 4 April 2018 also said the House intel comm wanted the unredacted version of the Electronic Communication that opened the FBI counterintelligence investigation into Russian collusion. No mention of that info in this ltr from DoJ.

The FISA warrant applications being addressed here are the ones against Carter Page (an original in October 2016, and 3 extensions covering a year time period)

ICE arrests 97 suspected illegal immigrants at Tennessee meat processing plant

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents arrested 97 people after raiding a Tennessee meat processing plant, in what civil rights activists say was the largest crackdown at a single place in almost a decade.

ICE spokeswoman Tammy Spicer announced the raid in a statement on Friday and said that of the 97 people taken into custody from Southeastern Provision meat processing plant in eastern Tennessee, 11 people were arrested on criminal charges, 54 were placed in detention and 32 were released.

She said they were all arrested on suspicion of being in the country illegally.

The National Immigration Law Center said it believes this was the largest single-workplace raid since George W. Bush was president, the Washington Post reported.

Federal immigration officials did not confirm if it was the largest.

This was the latest crackdown on illegal immigrants by the Trump administration after he announced last year that ICE agents would be targeting employers that choose to hire immigrants knowing they are illegal.

A total of 21 people were arrested after immigration agents raided 7-11 stores nationwide in January.

Loretta Lynch talks to Lester Holt before Comey book release

James Comey will be in the headlines the week of April 15 when he gives a series of interviews for his book “A Higher Loyalty: Truth, Lies and Leadership.”

Getting out in front of Comey will be former Attorney General Loretta Lynch. She has given an interview that will air Monday on “NBC Nightly News With Lester Holt.”

Lynch will discuss her relationship with Comey and her controversial meeting with former President Bill Clinton on a tarmac during the 2016 campaign. She and Clinton said the meeting was a coincidence.

But Comey has said the meeting prompted him to go public about the FBI investigation into Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server.

Lynch could discuss how Comey handled that investigation and whether it affected the outcome of the presidential election.

She will talk about how the Trump administration is handling civil rights issues, NBC News said.
