Maybe he was identifying himself as a cross-borderer?

maybe he wanted a weigh-loss program where he gets two small bowls of rice a day topped with turnip greens. And he can avoid email, text messages and TikTok.

If they can figure out a way to use him for propaganda purposes, he will actually eat pretty well. Can't use him if he's gaunt and in poor health. I read a book on NK called "Nothing to Envy" and there was a female physician who defected via China and could not believe her eyes when, once in China, she saw a dog dish in a yard that contained meat scraps. The thought of a dog getting to eat any kind of meat was totally alien to her. She couldn't remember the last time she had eaten meat. And she was a doctor.

How long will it be before we see the requisite video of his mama crying and begging the President to "Get my poor innocent baby out of there!" Or maybe she'll just go straight to Dennis Rodman.

Let's start a pool on when he realized he screwed up.

I'm guessing about 5 minutes after he crossed the border.

As smart as he seems to be, I would guess he hasn't figured it out yet.

A soldier, who was under escort for discipline abandoned the path as ordered and found a way to another country, which currently is hostile to the United States. Isn't that desertion?

I read this guy was wearing civilian clothes. I have a feeling that he will be considered a spy and possibly executed.

Expert308, can you name one mother that wouldn’t want her child back from that shithole? She didn’t do anything wrong.

With that being said, I just can’t believe all the screwups in this story. It makes me wonder how a fool like this passed basic training. It’s unnerving to think that our military is partly made up of kids that immature. Travis was just dumb enough to be arrested.

There seems to be some contradictory/incomplete information about how King went from airport, to the DMZ.

I've read that this guy was supposed to board a plane back to the US, however his military escort is unable to get past airport security check-point; so he gets past South Korean TSA, he's free to wander. Once thru, he allegedly 'joins a tour group' headed up to the DMZ, once there its peace-out, I'm free. My understanding is these DMZ tour groups require a bit of pre-planning for the guests, some screening and then herded through a variety of checks and rule explanations prior to visiting. You can't drive up to the area like it's a vista point or, hit up the tour desk promoting DMZ tours at the airport.

Anybody who's been stationed there that can explain the process?
