It doesn't have to make sense. The idea is to simply sling enough of their phony shit on the man's reputation, he'll withdraw. But, he hasn't done so. Apparently, they're shocked by this. When Kavanaugh pushes back and defends himself in a fury, they behave as if a person is supposed to show utter dispassion in the face of character assassination . After all, that's exactly how they would handle it, right? Of course- pillars of stoicism they would be. This shameful episode has seeped into the culture, and unlike much of the significant political drama that plays out in Washington, this travesty is being seen by so many people who are otherwise uninterested in politics in any serious way.
