Charles City is surprising. That's a rural county with lots of hunting, but is majority african-American and votes almost exclusively democrat. It borders Henrico County to the west. This is a county that voted in Joe Morrisey to the state house.

Joe Morrisey:

1) cited for contempt of court ten times and was jailed or arrested five times
2) law license suspended twice
3) disbarred and on April 25, 2003, his license to practice law was revoked by the Virginia State Bar Disciplinary Board citing ""Frequent episodes of unethical, contumacious, or otherwise inappropriate conduct mar Joseph D. Morrissey's career as prosecutor and private defense attorney," the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit noted in September 2002. The court said, "Evidence … demonstrates Morrissey's 15-year history of contempt citations, reprimands, fines, suspensions, and even incarcerations arising from unprofessional conduct mostly involving an uncontrollable temper, inappropriate responses to stress, and dishonesty."
4) indicted on and convicted of felony charges of indecent liberties with a minor, possession and distribution of child pornography, and electronic solicitation of a minor, in addition to a misdemeanor charge of contributing to the delinquency of a minor

And it goes on and on and on and on and on. This ass-clown even ran for his vacated seat from prison. And the democrats just keep voting him into office. Never mind he raped a black girl, got her pregnant, then married her.

^ I believe the vote was 2 for and one abstaining. I don't know if they only have three council members or if some didn't show up for the vote.

What's even more disgusting is that, in what turned out to be a successful campaign to turn our legislature blue, our esteemed former governor McCauliffe and other Democratic "leaders", attended a fund-raiser for this scumbag.

I can't tell you how disgusted I am with NRA. The 2A Sanctuary movement, particularly in Virginia, it's the most significant thing to happen on our behalf in a very long time. The NRA was nowhere to be found. Then they realized three things: they were losing money (donations pouring in to VCDL), another organization was gaining influence and nationwide attention, and progress was being made in the 2A fight. Three things that they can not abide.

They've become a disgrace.

NRA's Statement on Second Amendment Sanctuaries
FRIDAY, DECEMBER 6, 2019

As the Nation’s oldest civil rights organization, we recognize civic engagement as a virtue not a vice. Liberty is reliant upon the participation of free people, and this includes the vast number of citizens and communities who are lawfully exercising their rights under the First Amendment to defend their freedoms under the Second.

It is the tyrannical nature of politicians that triggers sanctuary, not the other way around. The NRA has steadfastly defended freedom for nearly 150 years, and we have no intention of suppressing virtuous voices against governmental oppression—censoring is what our opponents do.

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

?? "no intention of suppressing virtuous voices"

Not exactly the call to battle that VCDL led

Your boy Northam is increasing prison budget in order to house gun owners.

From the DAILY CALLER:

As if Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam’s wholesale attack on law-abiding gun owners wasn’t enough, the disgraced public official and his Michael Bloomberg-bought allies in the General Assembly now want the state’s hard-working taxpayers to foot the bill for their unconstitutional schemes. The budget bill (HB30) includes an appropriation of a quarter million dollars to carry out a host of gun control measures that Northam and his anti-gun allies hope to enact.

The $250,000 is appropriated to the Corrections Special Reserve Fund in order to provide for the “increase in the operating cost of adult correctional facilities resulting from the enactment” of Northam’s gun control measures. Among the enumerated laws that this allocation is meant to fund is a ban on commonly-owned semi-automatic firearms, the criminalization of private firearms transfers, and gun confiscation orders issued without due process.

Aside from the insult of forcing law-abiding Virginia taxpayers to pay for the diminution of their rights, the gun control allocation is a severe waste of resources. Northam’s Bloomberg-backed gun control measures will not make Virginia safer.

In additional to being unconstitutional, a ban on commonly-owned semi-automatic firearms will not reduce violent crime.

Long guns of any description are rarely used in violent crime. FBI Uniform Crime Reporting data breaks down homicides by weapon type. In 2018, the FBI reported that there were five times as many individuals listed as killed with “knives or cutting instruments,” than with rifles of any kind. The data also showed that rifles were listed as being used in less homicides than “blunt objects (clubs, hammers, etc.)” or “personal weapons (hands, fists, feet, etc.).”

A 1997 Department of Justice-funded study of the 1994 federal “assault weapons” ban determined that “At best, the assault weapons ban can have only a limited effect on total gun murders, because the banned weapons and magazines were never involved in more than a modest fraction of all gun murders.” A 2004 follow-up Department of Justice-funded study came to a similar conclusion. The study determined that “AWs [assault weapons] and LCMs [large capacity magazines] were used in only a minority of gun crimes prior to the 1994 federal ban,” “relatively few attacks involve more than 10 shots fired,” and “the ban’s effects on gun violence are likely to be small at best and perhaps too small for reliable measurement.”

So-called “universal” background checks do not stop criminals from obtaining firearms.

Background checks don’t stop criminals from stealing firearms, getting them on the black market, or getting them from straw purchasers. According to the U.S. Department of Justice, 75 percent of criminals in state and federal state prison who had possessed a firearm during their offense acquired the firearm through theft, “Off the street/underground market,” or “from a family member or friend, or as a gift.” Less than one percent got firearms from dealers or non-dealers at gun shows. ATF has reported, “[t]he most frequent type of trafficking channel identified in ATF investigations is straw purchasing from federally licensed firearms dealers.”

This year, researchers at the Bloomberg School of Public Health and the UC Davis School of Medicine found that comprehensive background checks and prohibitions based on violent misdemeanors “were not associated with changes in firearm suicide or homicide.”

Aside from enabling the unacceptable deprivation of constitutional rights without due process, an Extreme Risk Protection Order (Red Flag) law is unnecessary in Virginia because the state already has strong and effective civil commitment laws.

Under Virginia law, a law enforcement officer may take an individual into emergency custody for a mental health evaluation without prior court approval. A person detained in this manner is then evaluated to determine whether they meet the criteria for a temporary detention. A person that was subject to a temporary detention order and subsequently agreed to voluntary admission to a mental health facility is prohibited from possessing firearms until their rights are restored by a court.

Tax-paying Virginians should not have to foot the bill for Northam and Bloomberg’s radical attack on their fundamental rights.

Established in 1975, the Institute for Legislative Action (ILA) is the “lobbying” arm of the National Rifle Association of America. ILA is responsible for preserving the right of all law-abiding individuals in the legislative, political, and legal arenas, to purchase, possess and use firearms for legitimate purposes as guaranteed by the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. Click here to follow NRA-ILA on Facebook.

I could be wrong, but it seems it wasn't long ago Ralph & Co. were advocating tossing prisoners out early on account of "operating costs," as well as restoring all their rights and calling them "returning citizens" instead of ex-cons.

They are not concerned as much pertaining to assault weapons for public safety, as they are scared of many citizens having those assault weapons and vast stockpiles of ammunition when chose any civilian clampdown.

Robert E Lee was a better man than you, Northam !

"WASHINGTON (WDBJ7)-- Gov. Ralph Northam's office says he will push for legislation replacing Virginia’s statue of Confederate General Robert E. Lee housed in the United States Capitol Building.

Northam spokeswoman Alena Yarmosky said Monday that the governor filed a drafting request for a bill that would outline the process for removing the statue and selecting a replacement. The disclosure from Northam's office came in response to a letter from two Democratic members of Congress that called on Northam to make replacing the statue part of his agenda for the legislative session that begins next month.

The Lee statue is one of Virginia's two in the National Statuary Hall Collection."

I must respectfully disagree. The idea that the NRA cannot abide progress in the 2A fight is just silly. Do you really believe that Heller/McDonald would have made it before SCOTUS without NRA support? Furthermore, do you really believe that the NRA is unhappy with the rulings? Not likely, and it is these very rulings on which you will be building the foundation of your court fight against these new VA laws, should they pass.

I get that members here are disappointed with the direction of Virginia, and wish to find somewhere to direct the anger, be that the GOP, NRA, VCDL, etc. However, these organizations are nothing more than organized people. Tell me, how many of you who direct vindictive towards the NRA, et al, were active members in these organizations, donating your time and resources towards the cause BEFORE the latest election? There may be some, but I suspect that many only became active after the election, before hoping that others were carrying their water.

The NRA is a large organization with a nationwide agenda. This sanctuary county movement is very new and fast. It is no wonder that the NRA is just getting involved. Frankly, it seems like their formal involvement during the upcoming session is a good thing, and will build upon the momentum of the grass-roots sanctuary movement. I do not understand some member’s hostility to the NRA’s recent involvement.

I hope that we can all put aside the McArthur/Nimitz like fighting, and realize that any ally is a good ally in this fight, and that we all have the same goals.

All my life I was proud to be a Virginian, of what my state represented, the contribution of people like Washington, Jefferson, Madison, Henry, & Mason, and that much of our own U.S. Constitution was built upon the ideals of Virginia. My family settled in the Blue Ridge at a time when it was wilderness, and had to fight for their lives to survive. Our family cemeteries are full of the graves of those who have fought for this nation and the Commonwealth over the last two centuries. I, for one, am happy to see that the NRA will be active in the upcoming session in Richmond, and offer my best wishes and support with their efforts. I will do anything I can to see Virginia return to the place that I remember.
