The President Says the U.S. Doesn’t Need Anything From Canada. Exports Say Otherwise Export data show the United States still relies on Canada for more than 63% of its crude imports and $3.3 billion in electricity exports. On Monday, President Donald Trump claimed the United States "doesn't need anything from Canada" while announcing 50% tariffs on Canadian vehicles and parts starting January 1, 2027, following trade negotiations that collapsed last Friday. Economic ties remain extensive, with the two nations exchanging about $872 billion in goods and services last year, including nearly 20% of U.S. petroleum consumption and more than 80% of potash imports from Canada. Political science professor Daniel Beland at McGill University called such claims "absolutely false," while Ambassador Pete Hoekstra previously stated, "We need potash" regarding critical Canadian supplies. Ontario Premier Doug Ford suggested using exports as leverage in negotiations, though analysts warn such moves would harm the American economy ahead of November midterm elections. The scheduled 2027 tariffs on auto parts could reshape cross-border manufacturing, creating uncertainty for industries reliant on the $126 billion in annual Canadian crude exports. https://ground.news/article/th...xports-say-otherwise _________________________

To think that this is a new issue and one that the US is the bad guy in is just false. Those that are opposed to anything the President does it is business as usual. Canada, like many other countries have been abusing our relationship (because our politicians) have allowed this to happen for decades. Of course they want that to continue. But the time has long since past that this injustice needs to be corrected. There is no reason the US should pay on both ends of trade with other nations. Even allies. As a dual citizen, I could not agree more with your statement! I have no problem with what our government is doing with Canada. They are quickly turning into a Chinese State. As somebody born in Canada I am mortified to see what is going on there.

https://townhall.com/news/matt...734408&lctg=26773771 We Are Very Close to Clinching a Massive Deal on Oil It’s an underreported story, given this administration’s 10,000-mile-per-hour pace, but the Trump administration is close to sealing a massive deal for Venezuelan oil that could double U.S. oil reserves overnight. Our strategic reserve is at a 40-year low, a byproduct of Joe Biden dipping into it to reduce gas prices at de minimis levels. If all goes well, it could be the defining moment of the Donroe Doctrine (via Axios): Caracas has undergone an overhaul following the January raid by US Special Forces, which captured Nicolas Maduro in an epic raid. New psychological weapons were deployed in that operation to neutralize government forces around the bunker where Maduro was hiding. We also infiltrated his inner circle, with a CIA source having access to Maduro’s schedule, providing an up-to-the-minute location of the Latin American dictator. The interim government has played nicely with Washington for obvious reasons. "Calling this deal huge would be an understatement," one of the officials said. "It is massive." Adding pressure to get the deal signed: the wars in Iran and Ukraine, which have disrupted global oil supplies and raised prices. […] Zoom in: Details are still being hammered out, but the discussions involve more than a dozen productive oil fields — not all of Venezuela's 300 billion barrels of proven reserves. The fields in question, which have 90 billion barrels of proven reserves, used to be controlled by former Venezuelan insiders — including some who've been indicted — as well as interests once controlled by China, the official said. In return for giving the U.S. an ownership stake, Venezuela's government would benefit from private companies, including American firms, developing the fields and returning more oil revenue to that country. Zoom out: The Venezuelan oil deal would be a legacy-defining moment for President Trump, who has made U.S. energy security and dominance in the Western Hemisphere pillars of his so-called "Donroe Doctrine." "President Trump is close to securing America's energy future for generations to come, not just in the U.S. but in the hemisphere," a second official said. Trump began privately discussing ways to have an ownership stake in Venezuelan oil fields even before he authorized the Jan. 3 capture of Venezuelan strongman Nicolas Maduro, who faces narco-terrorism charges in New York."

Google maps apparently hasn't yet gotten the memo. They have labeled the Gulf of America properly, but are still showing the deprecated name for Lake America. Surely this is a simple mistake/lazy editing rather than a political statement. C'mon GOOG, let's get with the program!

https://www.newsmax.com/newsfr...dkt_nbr=010124yj9u37 Trump Stakes Out Secrecy Claims Ahead of Midterms President Donald Trump's administration is laying the legal groundwork to resist potential congressional investigations should Democrats capture the House in November, CNN reported Saturday. The president's teams are advancing expansive claims of executive privilege that could shield outside advisers and even their identities from lawmakers. The moves come with Republicans confronting an increasingly hostile political environment little more than two months before the midterms. At the moment, Democrats are favored, though by no means assured, to capture the House, while the battle for the Senate remains more difficult and uncertain. Recent polling and election analysis point to voter frustration over the cost of living and the prolonged Iran war as significant liabilities for Republicans, while GOP strategists are also confronting concerns about enthusiasm within their own base. A Democratic House would regain subpoena power and will no doubt launch aggressive investigations of Trump and his administration, which will likely include impeachment inquiries even without Democratic control of the Senate. ''There has been an unprecedented amount of interaction between the Executive Branch, particularly the White House, and the private sector that Congress has made clear is going to be the subject of oversight,'' Jamie Bair, a partner and head of congressional investigations at Crowell & Moring, told CNN. Democrats are already examining the administration's dealings with FIFA, Trump's connections to the cryptocurrency industry, and potential conflicts between Trump family business interests and administration policy. ''There are the collateral consequences of being held in contempt, of refusing to provide documents, and standing behind blatantly unlawful assertions of executive privilege,'' a senior House aide told CNN anonymously. The administration argues presidential confidentiality can extend beyond government employees to private advisers, an increasingly important issue given Trump's reliance on business executives, outside attorneys, and longtime associates. cont...

I would not be surprised to hear a speech like that from Ottawa, but I am surprised to hear those words from the Premier of Alberta. I would expect more sense, and a more conservative viewpoint .
