Sister in law is not a theme park person or Harry Potter fan.

I'm not super up on Apple terminology, so I probably won't use the correct terms. We set my kids iPads up as family members under my wife's parent account so we only have to buy apps, music, etc. once. Each has their own iCloud email and account. I don't remember what my daughter searched, but it was some random 12 year old girl thing that my wife would never have thought to look up.

I asked my wife about the electrician thing and it was either a coincidence or a Google thing. It turns out she got an email about electricians from Home Advisor. She uses Google mail on her iPhone. I was sitting next to her looking for electricians on my phone (android) and she asked me what I was doing. I told her and about a minute later she got the email.

It trust Apple over Google any day of the week.

On one of my bikes, I have a mount.

The phone is used for GPS Navigation, and music. I wear full gear. Shoei helmet, Alpinestars full armored race suit, back protector, chest protector, Sidi armored boots, and Alpinestars armored race gloves with a farkle finger.

Maps is up and running the phone doesn’t lock. Mount phone, plug in, unlock with Face ID, fire up maps, music, helmet and gloves go on. I can then control the screen with the farkle finger.

Now do I need to explain anything else to you at this point? Geez.

What am I doing? I'm talking to an empty telephone

Here's an interesting video on the new SE2. Watch this with the understanding this is somewhat tongue in cheek and purposefully sarcastic in nature. It does however include a few jewels of truth though.

He's not wrong.

I think a modern, bezel-less design using face i.d. might have been nice. Certainly a dark/night mode for the camera would have been welcome. Conversely: My wife and I are perfectly happy with our 6S', which has neither of those things. So, for us, his companion video is more on the mark:

Go my new SE (2020) yesterday. The upgrade process from iPhone 6S -> iPhone SE (2020) went smoothly.

The new camera is a nice upgrade. Here's a test shot I did of our back yard:

That's unaltered save scaling it down by 50% for display on this page. Turned out to be a pretty decent test scene, what with the contrasts. There's good definition in the shadowed areas w/o the more brightly-lit objects being badly blown out. In the full-size version you can clearly see the character of the bark in the most shadowed areas of that tree in the left foreground, and in the grass the the shadow thrown by the shed. All the colours are true.

The phone is more responsive and smoother than was my iPhone 6S. Pairs up much more quickly and reliably with my Air Pods than did the 6S. Initial impression is the battery life looks like it'll be much better, but I'll need a few days with it to be certain.

Paired right up with Uconnect in the Jeep, which was expected.

Cellular performance in the house seems about on par with the 6S, which I expected, being as T-Mobile has yet to deploy their new 600MHz Band 71 in the southern part of Michigan's southern peninsula.

All the additional apps I had that I've tried so far have been fine.

Only fly in the ointment, and this doesn't relate directly to the phone, was I nearly lost my Apple Watch in the process. After I paired the watch with the new phone, a WatchOS update notification arrived. I attempted to install it. Failed. I was persistent and finally got it to install. That was almost a mistake, as my watch nearly bricked itself. I think I've got it all fixed up now, though. *whew*

Two weeks with my new SE.

Went from a 4 year old SE

Battery life noticeably better. The old SE battery was original with 89% battery rating.

Faster connect to hearing aids via MFI. Costco KS6 hearing aids (made by Resound).

I like performance and larger screen. I was running out of memory on old SE 16 GB model. I went with 128 GB on new SE.

Down loaded NeuralCam for $2.99. A low light app for camera. Just started testing it. SE lacks iPhone 11 low light photo mode.

Overall satisfied with the upgrade.

These are good times for Apple and Android users. The iPhone SE2 is off to a great start (even given the current times). Next up in mid-May for Android users, the Google Pixel 4a promises to be a terrific phone with a fantastic camera for $399. And now the recently announced (and what I'm waiting to see) OnePlus Z enters the fray at a similar buy in price. OnePlus is specifically targeting the iPhone SE2 as its primary competition and offers a similar feature set and build. It also is projected to include a 90Hz screen refresh rate, which if you haven't tried one, is a game changer IMO.

I really think these three phones (and a couple others like them) are going to fully change the paradigm about what a large majority of users want in their phones and are willing to pay for.

May 9 and we still are/were, but, for $300/ea., after my veteran's discount and our trade-ins, we got new phones with a number of improvements, incl. more storage, better cameras, water resistance, and support for T-Mobile's new 600MHz Band 71.

I just went downstairs and took some low-ish-light photos with her 6S and my new SE (2020). Vastly better photos from the SE.

Could have saved even more on more expensive iPhones. It was more about getting a couple things we really wanted at a tolerable price point. My wife wanted a better camera. I wanted Band 71 support.

I was also hoping the new phone would solve the performance problems I've been having with our surveillance system on cellular connections. Alas, it did not Frown That I knew was a craps shoot.

Oh, I've time, but the current low-light comparison photos I have would be embarrassing. The basement's a disaster area

I'll try to remember to take some under a couple different light conditions later this evening.

what's band 71?

wi-fi issues on surveillance?

when you can, be interesting to see the difference.

we recently saved $500 with porting + 2 new accounts from a long time with verizon to xfinity mobile.

my wife jumped from i8+ to the 11 & me from note5 to s10+.......yeah, i'm a droid guy.

over time, i've inherited her 6+/8+, so i'm familiar with both platforms.

T-Mobile's new 600MHz band. That 600-700MHz band is the reason for the latest OTA TV station repack. (To be completed by July 3, 2020.)

Our surveillance system doesn't transcode "high"-bandwidth recorded surveillance footage down to lower bit rates for mobile clients. So, unless I have a pristine signal it's nearly worthless.

It's either live with that annoyance or always record at low resolutions and frame rates, which is equally unsatisfactory.

Just take that same backyard pic again but just after dusk. That should provide a nice comparison for everyone.

What is interesting and something I'm a bit perplexed by is that Apple skipped adding a night mode to the SE2. With the A13 chip they had plenty of horsepower to drive it. Both the Pixel 4a 'and' OnePlus Z will be sporting a night mode option. and the OnePlus Z adds a second, wide angle, lens to the back.

Video streams are digital, yes? And they're all encoded by one of a number of digital encoding standards. E.g.: MPEG2, H.264, and so-on. And, for each of those encoding standards there can be different bit rates. E.g. 2mp/s (megapixels/second), 4mp/s, and so-on.

Transcoding is tech geek speak for converting digital information encoded in one standard/bit rate, and re-encoding it on-the-fly into another. Shorthand for "translate encoding."

And now you have some useless tech geek trivia with which to impress babes at the bar or the next party Big Grin

There are a couple theories about that. The more charitable being Apple felt the lens wasn't up to it. That processor power alone would not be enough. The less charitable theory is if the low-end SE had such a great camera, who'd want to pay two-three times as much for a higher-end iPhone?

Either way: In dimmer light it's a lot better than our iPhone 6S', so I'm happy enough.

Might want to look again.. Samsung phones are almost always the first to support new carrier bands. Actually carriers use Samsung phones exclusively for new network testing.

If your S10+ doesn't have it, you might have the international/non USA version of the S10.

T-Mobile band 71 first appeared on Galaxy S8 Active.

You hear the most recent leak on the iPhone 12? They claim the base level 12 will start at $649. I'm telling you, these cellphone manufacturers were already feeling the pinch for their $1k+ variants, and with these mid-tier phones becoming so popular, they're going to have little choice but to hold price down on the upper-tier stuff to try and get it to move.
